Hey, seriously, thank you so much for hosting this conversation. It's a really important one, and everyone should go into this stuff aware of the risks.

Great conversion, thank you both for your expertise! 5 years of BJJ in gi and I avoided any skin issues. 1 year of BJJ no gi and I acquired staphylococcus twice, once on my tricep above my elbow and the second time (6 months later) was right in-between my ass crack (nasty), it felt like my skin was constantly burning. I was prescribed antibiotics but didn't take them, instead I decided to treat both infections with pure tea tree oil (advice I have heard from some grappling pirate). I applied it to the infected area multiple times a day, this seemed to actually work a treat and I completely healed, although some skin scares are still present after a year. From what I have found rash guards actually offer minimal to no protection from infections. I have also used those special washes as a preventative ever since.

What I would say to do is to wear long workout pants and a long sleeve rash guard while you're grappling. And pour tea tree oil into baby wipes and then wipe them on your skin after every session.

I started using those body wipes I got from Japan after judo sessions now. Realized how much we sweat on each other and open wounds exposing as well.

should you avoid shaving the day of grappling, prior to grappling?
@zoomingby4 ай бұрын
From what the doctor said, of course you should. Shaving will obviously introduce the risk of skin integrity issues, and with a breakdown in the skin comes increased risk.

Anyone has had issues whit hyperpigmentation after a skin infection?
@itssohotsam61144 ай бұрын
Yes
@politelyimpolite4 ай бұрын
Yes that is normal. Avoid sun exposure on the spot. See a dermatologist if it is concerning you.

My question is nose wipes because staph is inside the nose

I feel like a lot of dudes don’t legit wash the entire body in a shower . Like in between toes the legs, back.

Guys i don't know if anyone has it or is any solution to this because of wearing tight shoes for so long as being mostly a football player since childhood i have round calluses on my toes am doing Judo now and feel kinda insecure about the way my feet are looking

Tried creams but hardly can't see any changes

If your opponent is looking at your feet then they are telegraphing their attack and compromising their posture. If anything, the dudes in the Judo class will think your foot calluses are intimidating.

It's a practical nightmare if you had to wash the gi after every practice. Like come home after 8 pm and silence is at 10 pm so your washing machine most likely doesn't have that short of a program or can't get it cleaned. And to be fair the constantly washed gi's are really rough and stiff. I know a lot of guys who hang it out to dry right after training but wash it only weekly or if it has been noticeably soiled/starts smelling. But no chance you leave it in the bag after training with any clothing that has been dampened, especially with sweat. I'm actually surprised that the skin infections are as common in judo as it sounds in this interview. Because I've learned judo to be this very very considerate, respectful sport that puts other people's well being on pedestal in a sense. Like you cut your nails, you remove piercings (both of course protect you yourself as well) and you're recommended to be "clean" coming to practice and washing afterwards. But then people will come to training with skin infections like it's nothing and not even warning their instructor/partners about it?

It's 100% gross and dangerous to not wash your gi every time. If you show up with a stinky gi, you're not getting on our mat

Something like 50-80% of people have HSV-1. Obviously not great to have an outbreak, but odds are if you're reading this you have it.
