This is so informative. I thought I was a bit of a collector of coloured pencils but now I see that when it just comes to flesh colours there are so many choices in each pencil company and it is good to have those choices. Thanks!

Because my budget as a high schooler is limited I only have the Prisma option and am comfortable having used them for my portrait and animal work the past few years.. I must say there is an expanded range in what I have.. there is a Chocolate as well as a light flesh, and other tones such as Ginger Root and Nectar that I find can work strongly as skin tones as well. Just my input as this is a fairly recent video ☺
@paigeme8867 жыл бұрын
Hi, this explanation/ tips on skin tones was really helpful! Thank you! Just wondering if you could expand on it more at some point please? Telling us which colours were cool and warm was great and i would love it if you could do something similar but more in depth (faber castle and prismacolor would be great... especially now you are falling in love with them again 😄). Im quite new to colouring with pencils and find it so hard to figure out which are warm and cool skin shades etc. Your Diverse skin tone tutorial was helpful as well! Thank you so much for all your videos! They are fantastic!

I saw some other famous youtuber saying that the polychromos doesn't have a great colour range for portraits...and the prismas would be a better choice...or even the caran d'ache if you could afford them.. anyways, great video! I've subscribed!

Thank you for sharing Southpaw Creative. I have learned quite a bit from you and other outstanding artists on KZbin. At best, I probably have 10-to-15 percent of total ability when compared to other outstanding artists, but I'm enjoying the field like I used to. Again, much thanks to a lot of brilliant talented artists out there sharing your brilliant methods.

I agree that faber castell has the largest selection of skin tones of any brand.. and they also have a large range of botanical colors too.. some sets are very limited on greens, blues etc. but this set is not. There are plenty of greens, blues, purples, pinks etc to do all sorts of botanicals. Same with a less expensive wax set, but very good set that has good color and blending quality to it... the 120 castle arts set.. it has a good range of colors. I got it to travel to appts with, and have Been pleased at the amt of color range, blending ability etc.

I actually had an interesting question, sort of relating to the spirituality of creativity. This actually happened to me tonight, and I'm enlightened by it rather than freaked out. (Younger me would've definitely freaked out). So here I am, having never done a painting before. In fact, I've barely ever looked at paints, let alone used them in any capacity. I used paint a year ago to basically emulate how I draw digitally, and to be honest, it didn't turn out great because I had no idea how to use the medium. Then tonight, a year later, I decided to pick up a paint brush, and some paints I got from the dollar store. I went into with no actual plan, or idea, and there was a sensation I've felt before when playing guitar (I often thought this was my late friend Nathan, channeling his guitar playing through me, to help me out). I don't know anyone who paints who's passed away, and yet the sensation felt the same. I ended up creating half of something, that when I look at it, I honestly can't accept that I'm the one who painted it. It's no Picasso, or Gough, but it's better than I thought I could even do. Now the question: Have you ever had an experience when painting, Drawing, etc. (perhaps a new medium) where it felt like someone was channeling their skill through you, to the point where you have trouble accepting that /you/ are the one that did the piece? Random, I know. But I'm boggled!
@ArtistJane3 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it? I’m a deeply spiritual person, and I feel part of that is being an artist. I feel that we all have the ability to “tune in” so the painting, drawing, and creativity can flow through us. Almost as if we’re being helped and channeling something beyond our physical reality into the physical. It’s wonderful and I’m so happy you shared this experience with me. Definitely check out Abraham Hicks talking about artists and creativity on KZbin. ♥️🎨♥️
@TheVirakahScale3 жыл бұрын
@@ArtistJaneIt's crazy. When I was younger I always believe in something beyond our physical realm, but never really knew what. I'm one who believes in many things people wouldn't understand, but I've always kept my mind and heart to the possibly of anything. It's baffling how I was 'chosen' to experience things like this. I feel lucky. (perhaps a tid bit overwhelmed by the sensation) And I'll definitely check him out today!

I would love to have polychromas but they're ridiculously expensive compared to a Prismas. I can Get the polys open stock, maybe I should pick up their flesh tones. Have you tried Marco Renoirs, any opinion?
@ArtistJane7 жыл бұрын
+Crafty Crafter I'm actually going to be viewing Marco Renoirs very soon within the next few videos. I did some colors swatches and I believe they may be a very good, affordable alternative to some of the more expensive pencils on the market. They lay down very well. I'm also going to be doing a video on tips for buying expensive art supplies on a budget. I know the pencils I recommend are expensive, but I suggest buying open stock too or a small set + open stock. They are worth every penny.
