I had not heard that skinning the trunks could reduce cold tolerance, but it makes sense. Skinning a Mexican fan palm or a trachy is almost essential to making them look good. If you leave the boots or fur on the trunk, the ratio of frond to trunk width is just too small. Skinning the trunk makes the fronds look fuller and wider. Pindos benefit a lot from this too. It’s a lot of work, but as you’ve shown, the result is worth it.

Their trunk looks like kentia palms without husk.
