He doesn't realize it, he can't see it, but he and Rick Bayless are exactly the same, just with different interests. Watch their shows and you will see the same passion about what they do and the same manners of speech. And they are both extremely successful in media as well.

It sounds like Skip holds animosity towards Rick because of their father. I can understand where he's coming from, it does sound like his dad wasn't...the best. But that doesn't have anything to do with Rick. I'll say this as someone who has gone through similar -- Let it go, Skip. Reconcile with your brother. You don't want to go to your grave knowing you weren't close with your brother because of things that happened as a child. Especially with one of your other siblings already gone.

As someone who has, unfortunately, physically strong-armed their father - it doesn't make you feel like a man. It makes you feel like a betrayer, even if that person was basically trying to physically attack you and it had been years in the making. You feel like a piece of yours soul has become tainted. Even if Skip thinks his father deserved it(and he probably did); I am sure it turns his stomach to relive that event.

Thank You for sharing that. My father was a violent alcoholic and beat up my mom and sister. He died in 1998 when I was in the Army. I always wanted to beat his ass for what he did to my mom and sister but I never got a chance. Reading your comment made me realize why you would feel a betrayer. This is your father after all. It’s not fair it got to that level where you had to strong arm him.

My 2 sons were also treated to a conflicted relationship by way of their father. They were constantly pitted against e/ other, w/their father telling anyone who'd listen that he'd only wanted the 1st born. Maybe Rick & Skip were never told this but it sounds like Skip was treated like the unwanted child. It wasn't anything Rick, the older son did, or probably wanted, but it was thrust on him, & probably created unwanted burdens & responsibilities too. One other thing no one mentions, it denied them both a sibling relationship that could've been a blessing to the 3 of them as they grew up, instead of the strangers & distrustful envelopes they became. I'm now working overtime on helping my adult children build the bridges they should've built as children. It's a hard road, but slowly they're starting to realize what they missed, & why, as they're raising their own kids. I hope these 2 grown men get the help they need to build a new sort of relationship, if they really want to that is, instead of this broken down house that could just as easily be a good home. ❤

I do know it can be difficult to live with an alcoholic parent, it's an absolute nightmare that takes its toll on _everyone_ in the family. And that has obviously affected Skip and his life. But I will say this, from what I've observed from him as a commentator and other things, he does seem to become jealous easily and holds onto it/a grudge. Could be completely wrong, but even from the things he's saying in this, it seems like that could be part of it. There's 2 sides to every story, would love to hear Rick's take.
@DavidMartinez-pg3zqАй бұрын
@sydurgraham7760 I think your on the right track. My take on it is the Dad was likely lighter on Rick due to Rick's love for the family business and I'm sure Skip wasn't the easiest given he probably hated every second of it however I have no doubt that they made Skips life very difficult as well. Your absolutely right though once you get in Skips dog house you are never getting out and he does have the ability to write you off.

I love to cook and hate sports (although I was an athlete in my prime and into my 50's, and at 70 can still hump out a hard 20 miles roadbiking) . . . so, this is interesting that two brothers could be so at odds. Working in kitchens is very hard work, and from experience in restaurant kitchens (I was never great on the line, but better doing prep) I would try and tip the cooks in addition to the wait staff! If you are at a restaurant, ask the manager if the cooking staff shares in the tips . . . because 90% of your dining experience comes from behind the 'pass' in the kitchen.

Skip has said many times he is very proud of his brother Rick. Rick’s interests in cooking etc reminds Skip of their father who he loathes even now that he is dead. I would also guess Rick probably physically resembles their father to the point where Skip sees Rick and can’t stop thinking about it. It then brings up the emotions of hate & anger. Skip has said he loves his brother and as the saying goes, "Sometimes, to love someone, you gotta be a stranger". He is his bigger brother & maybe he’s protecting his little brother in this way. 🤷♂️
@unbiascowboy15374 ай бұрын
@@andrewhosfeld ehhh, skip just needs to go to therapy and be open to change. If what you are saying is true none of that is Rick’s fault or skips, it’s on the father, and who knows the trauma that the father went through. At Skip’s old age it’s time for him to do some soul searching and forgive his father and mother, not for them but himself. That’s probably why the universe/God is slowing him down and he lost his show. God might be trying to guide him into healing. He seems like one of those people that overachieved not necessarily because they were smart but to mask trauma, so his work became his best friend. But when everything fades away you find out that if you don’t deal with that child hood trauma it never leaves no matter how much you achieve or succeed in life.
