Skip was living in west philly with his wife. I would go over for piano lessons. I’d have a pint of whiskey which skip and I would sneak a hit from while his wife cooked dinner. Wonderful music, nice home. The best memories.

Stephen Jackendoff hey philly resident and huge Skip James fan. Grew up right outside the city and remember when I found out he was buried in my hometown... do you remember where he lived? Places like that and the Coltrane house need to honored properly. I’d like to pay my respects as well...

He has an otherworldly quality to him. It feels like he’s not the kind of guy you could visit to have a few beers with but rather confess your sins to.

Or listen to his, he had a lot of trauma and darkness in his life, admitted to shooting a man in a lumber camp, was said to be quite cynical, hard bitten, the original bluesmen had different temperaments, some were traumatized, some had a modern outlook, some had anxiety disorders (Robert Johnson) or PTSD (Robert Pete Williams), I was blessed to know and learn from many of the original bluesmen.

"My baby don like whiskey, and I know she ain't crazy about wine....but it was nothin' but the Devil, he done changed my babies' mind". The haunting falsetto, sinuous and brittle guitar licks, Skip was perhaps the most unique of all the bluesmen, the sound quality is much better on vinyl, this entire DVD is great, see order info above!!!!!

The irony is Johnson heard Skip James and wrote "Hellhound on my Trial" in the Skip James style. At this point Skip was dying of cancer and had to re-learn guitar as well. Listen to some of the original recordings and you will hear one of the greatest ever. Give Skip James some respect!
