Skipped stitches fixed!

Oh gosh Shelly! You just saved my Handi Quilter Capri from ending up in the dumpster! I have been struggling with this since I purchased it 2.5 years ago! I have been to the shop multiple times and they sent me new hardware and displays! It's been a night mare trying to get a good stitch that I can be proud to give someone. This changed EVERY thing! Thank you!

Thanks Shelly! I used a different batting and didn't think to change my presser foot height. This was the fix!

Thank you so much! I was using the same Bernina foot on my Q-20 sit-down and had the exact same problem. Adjusting the foot lower solved the problem! Thank you for posting!!!

Hi. I have a Bernina 740 and have been having problems with intermittent skipped stitches. from the time I first purchased the machine in 2020. I only do garment sewing but often use silk habotai for lining. I use Schmetz needles with Aurofil thread. The machine was recently serviced and I still have had skipped stitches even on a cotton twill fabric that I was working with. I recently bought Mettler thread which is harder to find in Toronto.in the hope that that might alleviate the problem. As suggested in this video, although for different applications, I have started to play with the pressure. If you have any further suggestions, I would be very grateful. Thank you

What size needle? What style of needle? I would start with a 80/12 microtex which is very sharp and go from there. When you get a skipped stitch it is because the bobbin is not catching the upper thread. Move up in needle size, lower the upper tension, try different types of needles. Each change one at a time. It is not likely from the type of thread. Although thread come in different thickness' also.

@@SewShelly On the silk Habotai was using a 70 Microtex and am now using an 80 Microtex. I can try adjusting the needle tension. Most recently the skipped stitches were on the upper thread stitching and not on the bobbin side. Skipped stitches have even happened on heavier fabrics such as the cotton twill skirt or wool coat I was working on. I really appreciate your help

When the bobbin does not catch the upper thread, the upper thread misses a stitch and lays flat on the surface. Keep playing with needle styles, tensions, stitch length and presser foot pressure. You will find the sweet spot. Your tech said the machine is fine correct?

@@SewShelly Yes he did. The stitching on the sample he attached was good. This has always been totally random. Great stitching and then suddenly skipped stitches. I find it so frustrating........

I agree it is frustrating. I wish I could sit beside you and figure it out. It is doable, you just need the correct combination for what you are doing. Could you take you fabrics and machine to your dealer and sit and stitch there? They could really help.

What stitch lengthy are you using. They look good after you adjusted

Jeanette, i am just using the default setting of 10 per inch on the Q20.
