Minecraft, But The Dark Kills You 2! In this series, my friend Jaymoji and I try to beat the game while the darkness hurts you. In this Minecraft 1.15 challenge, the dark kills you if it gets too dark. Can you beat Minecraft but the dark hurts you? What light level is the nether, and can we survive the End? soul sand has light level 0 because its not technically a full block, its about 1 pixel lower down

soul sand will be a full block in 1.16

The reason for the soul sand killing you might be that it has a slightly lower y-axis than other blocks, so the plug-in is trying to find the light level at your feet, which are technically in the floor. This results in the light level being 0 because there's no light inside the soul sand.

@@michaualtington i know this. I changed one of my weapon smiths to an armorer and made two fletchers (1 for arrows and 1 for selling sticks). I also got two villagers to breed and make 2 more, so I plan on getting a villager of each type (though, fletcher, armorer, toolsmith, and weapon smith are the main ones I want)

The reason why in on soul sand the light level is zero is because the soul sand's hitbox is slightly lower than a regular block and so you sink into it. The data pack probably is coded so it detects your exact coordinates and so when you're "in" the soul sand the light level is zero. And also because light doesn't pass through it

The pack should probably calculate the light level at your head instead of your feet to prevent the player from dying in soul sand. Also, this challenge reminds me of Don’t Starve, and I love it

The soul sand bug is likely due to the fact that it has a height slightly less than a full block. Since light levels are calculated at the block your feet are in, it thinks that you have a light level of zero (stuck in a block).

I guess the reason for the soul sand ignoring light is because sould sand is less than a block tall. Your feet are basically "in" a block, causing the game to think you're in light level 0.

The reason that the soul sand was hurting you was because the way soul sand slows you is by partly phasing you inside the block, so the inside of the block has a light level of zero, it’s the same thing as for why silverfish would suffocate and die in soul sand

I think the light level was 0 in the nether for the same reason you can’t place anything there - soul sand is slightly shorter than other blocks, so maybe the light level detector is glitching and testing the light level inside the block
