This was kind of a trend! Croc 2 on Playstation had Gummi Savers, Zuul on Sega Genesis had Chupa Chup lollipops, and there were a bunch of others I can't remember as well.

I've never heard of this game before, BUT there is this other game based on a brand (Chex Cereal). The game is Chex Quest (I know, pretty original) IIRC it uses The Ultimate Doom engine, I dunno if that means is sorta mod of Doom or a total new thing with that engine, but it looks pretty funny, you should give it a look. Anyway, awesome video!!

@@Its_Moog If you wanna check it, the 1996 version is available on the Internet Archive, is ready to play on the online DosBox Emulator, and ready to download (if you try the online emulator ctrl key shoots, space open doors, arrow keys are for movement and the keys 1 to 0 change weapons) There is also a remaster version for free on steam, but give it a look to the original (and the sequels) Have fun, if you do play it I'll be looking forward for the videos!

Chex Quest was iconic. It came free in cereal boxes for a while, and since it was pretty nonviolent and free, it wound up on a lot of school computers in my area. It's a fun game

Chex Quest. It's a Doom TC themed around Chex cereal. Micro Machines racing. There's a game series called Chester Cheetah. The forst was on the SNES and it is an advertisement for Cheetos. There's a lot of games promoting products TBH.

Fun fact, a lot of the levels are based on actual Skittles commercials. Merlin is from the 1996 "Wizard" commercial where a wizard rows out to an island to do a ritual in some tide pools, the girl with the horse (and the stonehenge you turn back time with) is from "Getaway" where the girl activates stonehenge, and the old man with the 5 birds are from an unnamed commercial I can't find where the old man lets out the birds. Naturally, all of these commercials end with whatever the character was doing turning out to be a ritual to summon a skittles spewing rainbow. There may be more references to the 90s commercials in the game I missed, so if anyone knows of any others, please reply!

I have seen other commenter's mention the BK trilogy of games. I also really enjoyed "Chex Quest", came out in the 90s in boxes of cereal. Pretty excellent game overall even if it was a Chex advertisement. There was also "Cool Spot" for the Sega Genesis based on the 7up soda mascot, as well as the Avoid the 'Noid game for Domino's. Pretty sure there have been a few Cheetos games as well as McDonalds. The 80s and 90s were really keen on cross promotion and in my opinion some of it was pretty good!

So like...did it start off as a skittles game? Or did the devs try to make a different game, but for whatever reason they had to shoehorn in skittles in order to get the game published? Like kudos for their creativity if it's the latter.

It started as skittles. At some point the devs realized it was kind of good and tried to renegotiate. They were able to dial back the branding before release, but, I guess that after release even the Skittles people agreed the game seemed like it could stand on its own.

My neighbour wrote this. I did GameCube testing. The company had done an M&Ms game and got far enough into this they realised it wasn't terrible and the money people let them dial back the branding.

I'm still waiting for Darkened Skye 2: Legion of the M&M's. There's actually two M&M's games on Wii called Adventure & Kart Racing, both got bad reviews especially Kart Racing.
