Thanks for the interview. I had to chuckle at the intro when he pulled the umbrealla out of the door. There may be other cars that do this, but the only one I'm aware of is Rolls Royce. So it looks like the Skoda is an "upscale" vehicle😉. It was also interesting to hear about the charging infrastructure around his home...many DCFC chargers broken. If it wasn't for his accent, I'd say he was describing areas around my home. Anyway, happy to hear he made it to Scotland and back without incident.

Great review. Improved infrastructure even more than price I think is going to be most important factor with mass ev adoption over the next couple of years.

Thanks, Patrick. I think you're right. Even though the public infrastructure in the US is completely viable for long-distance travel, the perception will inevitably be worse at a time when it needs to be almost flawless.

The infrastructure is expanding but it's not keeping pace with how much EV's have massively increased on sales in the past couple of years.

Alan, I purchased an ID.4 base stateside. And I also thought briefly (very briefly about “T”, and I agree, one problem. Your comparison to a childish past President of the USA is spot on in my opinion. Like the Enyaq’s look up front and inside, but alas, not available here. Thank you for sharing your impressions!

Home Charging... this is the key to unlock happy Ev ownership. We upgraded to 3 Phase at home, so now we can charge multiple high capacity batteries at the same time, on cheap rate (7.5p kWh) electric. We have two 22kW chargers for our Tesla M3P & Skoda Enyaq VRS Coupe (both charging at 11kW each), plus two Powerwalls charging at 10kW ... all at the same time. Cars cost £4.95 each during a 6 hour charge. Powerwalls cost £2.06 which gives us 27 kWh to use during the day, supplimented by our Solar Array. Uk home supply on Single phase really isn't enough unless your lifestyle can accept load balancing and very low charge rates, or you do very low mileage with no long journey expectations. Multiple electric cars at home may suffer without 3 Phase.

Thanks for the details. Waking up to a full vehicle and making it cost-effective are definitely major benefits of going electric. It takes some effort up front but, like anything that saves time and money, once you've set it up, you'll appreciate it every day.
@JustMeTalking Жыл бұрын
This is the part that a lot of people don't understand... waking up to a full car. I spoke with someone recently who asked about range... ... my reply was 200-250 miles per day from home. Most people don't do more than that per day. All our family and friends are within that daily range for visits.
@plugandplayEV Жыл бұрын
@@JustMeTalking Right. We get the argument "well there's not enough fast chargers near my house", to which the response is "if you have a driveway and power outlet, you don't really need any within 175-200 miles of your house!" Need to move out of the gas errand mentality for local use and help people think of it as parking = charging, whether at home, work, or out doing regular activities.
@JustMeTalking Жыл бұрын
Well, although we have two electric cars, which we use all the time, I've also kept my old Petrol Turbo car. It's only done 17,000 miles, but also only costs me £380 per year to tax & insure it. So for under £500 per year we keep it as backup. No shame in that.
@TheCormTube Жыл бұрын
I know a few people who cope fine with a single 7kw charger for two EV's. I mean you could charge them 3 times a week each. If they did an average of 200 miles each on a full charge that would be 2500 miles a month....the average UK driver does around 1000.

I'm glad Alan mentioned that the reason he didn't consider a Tesla was because of Elon Musk. I had originally considered buying a Model 3, but Musk's antics made me reconsider and I bought from a competitor instead. He chased off a lot of potential buyers with his antics.

Undeniable at this point. Not that Tesla is especially hurting for demand, but his polarizing nature definitely turns a portion of sales away.

Did you manage to cover what type of chargers are included with the Skoda Enyaq iV80?
@TheCormTube Жыл бұрын
Type 2 connector supports charging speeds of up to 11kw. CCS supports up to 120kw in the iv60 and up to 135kw in the iv80. However getting into three figures on CCS with the Enyaq is very difficult, when you have a very a very low charge level and the battery has been warmed from driving you might see 100+ for like ten minutes.
@plugandplayEV Жыл бұрын
We talked about Alan's charging plans, which started with a regular outlet via portable charge cord that comes with the car. Apparently that's true of every Enyaq iV, but Alan recently got a more powerful home EVSE installed himself.

Very excellent and informed comments from Alan. I'm feeling a lot like him with Tesla these days. A car like this would us very well I think having a Peugout 5008 but wanting to downsize somewhat
@plugandplayEV Жыл бұрын
The car we used to get to Alan is actually an older 5008. The Enyaq would certainly lose some rear storage space over that model, but the flat floor and additional space that EV design brings does open up the rear passenger space to compensate with the seats down, it should be comparable. Thanks for the thoughts and let us know which vehicle you land on!

Nice review. He will be lucky to get 300 miles. The Enyaq tends to give between 200-240 ish depending on time of year & type of driving. Its a very easy car to drive, more comfortable than the Tesla Y, & very practicable (boot space). But the Tesla, for example, comes with 4 wheel drive, has a similar boot capacity & will get you at least 50-60 miles to the charge more every time (the car is lighter & the batteries are more efficient)

In the UK, Alan was looking at 10p per kWh to charge at home. That's equivalent to around £9 for 300 miles. Filling up diesel in my Dad's car right after this video was recorded cost £81. Even if the car does twice as many miles on that, it's still more than 4x more expensive every time you fill up! Seems like moving on from the petrol station is the right move, especially in the UK.
@simplysimon966 Жыл бұрын
@@plugandplayEV your dreaming...absolutely dreaming. I can get 12p p/k /w with Octopus energy for 4 hrs a night. The car does 3 miles per KW so at 7kw per hour = 84 miles for a 4 charge at the best rate. If your doing any mileage thats useless. If i put the heater on in winter i lose 150 miles. The temperature is great now and I paid 79p p/k/w on saturday because i had to. What do you do, sit there for 9 hrs why the car charges on long journeys on a lower tariff?. Stop telling people these are economical THEY are not. It cost me £55 do do 240 miles in the enyaq. That includes charging over night at the reduced rate. My porsche does the same for £50 even when i drive it hard. I have done 45k in this enyaq. The cars fine, electricity is a rip off and as we all change to EVs because we are forced to it will only get worse and worse. Get ready for the the tax hike when they lose it from burning dinosaur juice. As i said they are great if you dont use them much but if you do a lot of miles they are frustraing, worrying and scary. Broken chargers, expensive chargers, frustrating apps to make them charge. Its the future, it just needs to be better.

@@simplysimon966 It's clearly not a "dream" when it's the reality for this owner. He can charge overnight for 10p per kWh, as he shared. But I'll be sure to follow up and dig into the details of that charging plan. Energy prices will clearly fluctuate based on economic conditions and generation, but the "fuel" for electric vehicles is source-agnostic. Countries need to diversify their generation sources to ensure that spikes in an individual channel, such as natural gas flowing from chaotic parts of the world, don't hit as hard as they have done. No one denies that there are improvements to be made but there's no reason to think those advances are out of reach for countries that don't get stuck in the past.

@@plugandplayEV i think your missing the point. Unsure who is giving you 10p per k/w but they will only be for a a certain time. If your doing any real mileage it will increase to 40p plus per kilo watt even at home unless hes wired to the lamp column lol. Im not making this up..its real
