I'd just finished siliconing my rear door panels to fix a common/persistent problem identified by one of your other videos. I went out on a short journey and my glow plug warning light came on and I thought - oh shit. I got home, did a search to see how easy it is to replace glow plugs as I've only ever done spark plugs. I came across this video so I checked my brake lights - they weren't working. I bought a new switchand replaced the old one in about 30mins (it would have taken a lot longer without your help). Brake lights now working and warning light has disappeared. Can't thank you enough!

You just saved my day. The yellow curly light was flasing on my Skoda Fabia 2004 1.9 TDI. Thought it was a problem with the pre-heating and diesel injection. But then I noticed that the stoplight did'nt work. I followed your recommendation and replaced the stop switch with a new one and after installation did it all work fine as it should. Your comment about the understanding of what the different indicator lamps can tell us is very relevant. Thank you - I saved a lot of money.

Handling of this break pedal switch was so tricky, taht VW decided to redesign it, since guys rom authorized workshops broke them too often.

I have the flashing immobiliser light Appear randomly, exactly as you describe. My rear stop lights are operating correctly. To rectify the brake switch problem Does the brake light miss function only when the flashing immobiliser light is flashing

Thanks. All measure of dash lights have been reported for this so it is important to eliminate the switch by replacing it. The glow-plug and or EPC light comes on for P0571, brake light implausible signal. Maybe also the check engine and ABS light have all been reported. I've replaced the brake switch with the upgrade you have used in this guide but the problem has not gone away. The glow plug alarm has cleared but now the bulb alarm comes on when the brake pedal is depressed and goes off again when released. Both rear brake lights don't come on but the high one on the tailgate of the estate version of the Fabian is working ok. What can I try next before having to resort to paying through the nose for dealership to investigate??

you need to look at the lamps and their connections carefully/replace defective lamps, tighten lamp holders. Q - have you got the lamps in the correct holders as they can be mixed up? the brake light is a single lamp. have a look @ my video on lamps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHrZkqBqd6x-atE,. You could test with a test light or multi-meter if power is actually getting through to each lamp and with a battery test the lamp holder/lamp. There could be a short somewhere which would mean a process of elimination with the wire continuity. Often you find something just checking/waggling the lamps with the pedal pressed (use a piece of wood to jamb the pedal) if you get nowhere then use an OBD2 diagnostic tool if you can which may help. Hope this points you in the right direction and your able to fix it without resorting to forking out sheds of cash :-)

Good evening you absolute Skoda legend. My fabia speedometer has stopped working everything else is fine no warning lights or anything. Is this a common issue or do you have any suggestions on why this has happened

Maybe there is a connection issue, that's my first thought. I would take it out and re-connect, but if it is just the speed reading there is a connection on the gearbox. Have a look at that, it may have damaged wires/connection etc. It is down on the top back of the gearbox housing.

Hi skoda legend..my fabia 1.4 Diesel.its just cranking not starting.fuel pump is good.somehow diesel is not reaching enough for ignition

Check the battery cranking amps. Change the fuel filter. If you have high kms It could be the injectors. Could be any of these for that issue and more it is hard to diagnose without knowing more about the engines fault history/service etc.

I have a Fabia 1 (6y5) build in 2001. Sometimes my coolant lamp goes on and then my petrol display Shows that i have no petrol left. I changed my coolant surge tank and i checked the cabel connector if its wet there cause i read its a commun Problem. Everything was clean. So it must be a Problem in the Instrument cluster itself. I doubt it is the instrument panel, but maybe. First I would have a look at the fuel sender tank pump and test/check to see if that fixes the petrol level indicator. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXKrdJekfryCbqs. Could also be something as simple as a fuse or a return ground, check relevant fuses and battery earth lead to body.

Mine has the bulb warning light on, despite my bulbs all working. Could this be the same issue?

Not sure as i haven't got the warning light feature. The lamp warning light comes on if the resistance is significantly different to the logged value. earth connections often fail with water and age (rear cluster), broken wires, pour connections, All the xenon system needs to be checked/correct if fitted. Correct resistance lamps. I've also heard it can be turned off through OBD2 if desired :-)

My understanding is that the immobiliser light often comes on and replacing a cheap wire between the ignition barrel and dashboard can fix this. Not attempted it yet myself as for me the issue went away by itself.

Yes good point, I've heard of this myself and have looked at my reader coil wire by the ignition barrel and will do a video of this, but all you can do with this is disconnect/re-connect the reader end which may help. Replacing the twisted wires will mean either cutting the wires close/joining or disconnecting the instrument binnacle connection which will throw up the airbag light. All I am showing in the video is that my immobiliser light went out by replacing the brake switch, which has happened to this car on two occasions and is worth a shot before delving for further possibilities. Personally I would replace the switch first then if the fault remains then look at the reader coil wire or use VCDS :-)

try raising the revs for a short while for the alternator to kick in and the AC should work.

only what's covered in the video. If that doesn't help then If you know someone with Vagcom it should help identify the issue. have you checked the continuity of the glow plug's?

Hi HatBoy! I have bought a Fabia 1.4 mpi 2002 recently and I have noticed that when I turn the ignition on then check engine light does not light up at all. Am I right in thinking there's a problem? I have read that after ignition on it should lights up few seconds.

Yes I believe it does come on momentary and then off, so worth getting it checked out with OBD2 diagnostics. If the car runs ok it shouldn't be an issue, in fact some would say a bonus at MOT time ;-)

Yes, good point this is the same light that becomes the glow plug light in the diesel version :-)

The new type also breaks but in a different way. The plastic calibration ratchet goes sloppy and it gets stuck in one position. The car I'm working on had the new style and it is broken but not the only thing thats broken.

Yes, which bit is damaged? if it is the regulator, this can be changed, (this bit is the socket part on the back of the alternator) is the alternator old, does it make a charge?

@HatBoyHarvey Noticed your battery charge warning light does not illuminate , indicating a broken wire to the alternator ( common fault with fabias ) it will be in front of the gearbox rear of starter motor ,, its has a 2 wire plug mounted there that the wires break going into the plug ,, you'll have to drop undertray to see it ,, easy fix mate . ( (18month old video so you've probably had it fixed by now) .

Thanks for noticing that, I,m not sure if I fixed the alternator before or after doing this video. I had to rebuild the alternator at some point, but sadly didn't video that, shame. My wires were OK though, just the regulator, stator and slip rings which made it jun like new :-)

I changed the coil pack with new spark plugs this worked for a few weeks then the light came back. The car drives sluggish with lack of power intermittently, I changed the alternator still made no difference any ideas please? Thanks

Could be a number of things. disconnect the O2 sensor and see if it make any difference, if nothing changes then there is the culprit. Does the code reader come up with the same fault code? If so then it could be the loom needs to be looked at. Any other codes? any other symptoms - high fuel consumption, rough idle, stalling, smoke? Obviously everything service wise needs to be in good shape, battery, Oil, air, fuel filters and clean EGR, throttle body, MAF sensor, vacuum lines. Systematically check, clean and test stuff before replacing if you can.

Does the car run alright? CEL can be a number of things, common are plugs, coil packs, EGR and O2 sensor, but it maybe easier to use obd2 to scan car and pinpoint the fault.

It's a good idea to have a good look around the engine bay whist running to see if you can spot anything that looks, sounds out of place. vacuum pipes and electrical connection often cause issues also :-)

I find that when you disconnect any electrical part it is best to first disconnect the battery, as long as you know the radio code that is :-)

I've heard that the DSG gearbox can be expensive when it goes wrong on vag cars. intermittent electrical gremlins as with many, more modern cars are typical in older, higher mileage cars. Overall these cars hold up very well and cost less to fix compared with other prestige makes. Just service the car twice as often than not, drive only on sunny days and keep in a nice dry heated garage - not that this ever happens ;-)

@@HatBoyHarvey thanks for replying back but DSG is for automatic mine is skoda diesel.i was driving 120 an suddenly cut of the power I couldn't drive back more than 80 km .then the glow plugs light on .I turn off an started again didn't start only one side of the engine is start. Any ideas what's the problems should be? My mechanic said engine is gone?

@@sharamsalih7651 could be a number of things. here is an initial stab at it. has the inter-cooler pipe come off/leak? same goes for all intake, check for vacuum leaks, throttle body needs cleaning/ maf sensor. did, does turbo make whining/clicking noises? fuel supply needs checking. injectors maybe clogged/not actuating. was the oil level OK at the time/low oil. The list can go on and on, but the best advice I can give is have it checked through OBD2 with vagcom etc and work from there. Sorry not much help, but hope you get the car sorted :-)

My problem is that I have got the symbol indicating my doors are open, but they are all closed yet the symbol remains lit, after a while of driving, it does go away but flashes back on at times, what should I do? 😅

Take the bellows off the a pillar drivers side and check connections and look for broken wires, if all OK disconnect the battery earth and take door card off and check all connections by pulling off/on, then test. If all OK then suspect the door lock microswitch as these wear out over time. You could also just attach to OBD2 and check the fault codes if you have access to that :-)

This comes on when other things show faults, so it is not necessarily the airbag. Diagnostics is often easier to pinpoint the fault rather than painstakingly going through stuff. Can you remember if you detached anything with the earth lead still attached as this can often make it come on?

I've never heard of that, sorry, maybe power to the dash could be faulty. I would make sure battery is fully charged and then check the connections/ wireing going to and on the back of the dashboard.
