Thanks a Mill for this ! Funny once you get in there the job gets bigger ! I have some cracks in my bumper that are needing fixed so I'm definitely going to clean the turbo pipework- oh yes there is also a dodgy connection on one of the foglights and the outside air sensor is duff - The amount of videos you have done on the Fabia is invaluable - Reall can't thank you enough for these !!

Identical setup on a VW Bora MKIV, I found the intercooler sheild can rub thru the cores at the bottom over time. I trimmed a few millimeters off mine to prevent further damage, I also put a self tapper in the bottom of IC to do bleeding when needed.

Hi, can you tell me what kind of self tapper you used? It sounds like a great idea.

@@HatBoyHarvey I have also messaged you about taking the intake pipe off. Please read through Its a little lengthy comment in a video where you were working on your fabia egr

Its interesting to me that your intercooler pipes are held together with those very strong clamps - the vrs models make use of horseshoe clips which are prone to leaking or even blowing off when running a bit more boost, hence why so many people switch to hardpipes and front-mount coolers with mikalor clamps
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
Yes T-bolt clamps are, as you say better, but you need those if you change the flex pipes to silicone as they are more pliable and can blow off easily. Hard pipes are great, but you still will need some flex joints somewhere. The rubber ones often split hence the silicone replacements :-)

Another great vid Harvey. I was going to ask if you might induce boost leaks on your pipes to the inter cooler but as your clamps are different it seems you are safe on your engine but the Fab vRS and mk2 1.9 PD Octavia have the different boost pipes. Do you think disturbing them may induce leaks when carrying out this job ?
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Those engines have the metal inserted flange coupler and seal that I'm not a fan of as the Mk1 is much simpler and if you needed it to be more secure then you could fit a simpler metal band and tighten down. There are lots of modification to those couplers - flange heaven. Don't let them stop what is in effect routine maintenance :-)

Should I disconnect and drain intercooler while I do my oil change. Or oil change first then intercooler drain? What order should or recommend i do this
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter as they are not connected, but you do have to take the underway off so I would do intercooler first :-)

Hi Harvey. I wondered if you had done a video on checking for boost leaks and turbo wear but I can't seem to find one. Do you have any plans for this? 😊
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
Notes, will add that to my list, will do that at some stage, thanks. The variable gains in the turbo can get clogged up and stop functioning.

@@HatBoyHarvey thanks, that would be great. I think I've got a boost leak on my Vrs 1.9tdi as i'm only getting around 38 mpg which seems a bit low. 🤔

I have the same problem in my car, Ibiza TDI. I find engine oil in the air cooler and the pipe. I want to know where this oil comes from. Thank you.

The turbo. A little is perfectly normal, but if excessive then a turbo refund may be necessary :-)

Being I use your site as first port of call when I have needed to carryout work on my wifes fabia mk1 I was wondering if you have done a video on how to replace the turbo as I have cleaned the intercooler and pipes but oil still drips from the intercooler area and I wondering wif the problem is the oils seals in the turbo
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
Great, thanks. Will certainly do a video on that as it will be a good one to do. Rusty bolts are an issue on the exhaust, so will have a look into these before I take it off. If your turbo has been used a lot (mine hasn't) then almost certainly over time things start to wear out and the turbo on these has a number of parts. Oil will come through the turbo and is normal, but excessive oil obviously is not. I'm struggling to do videos at the moment with lots of work and health issues, but will put this on my list. Thanks for watching :-)

I have oil leak at the intercooler of a skoda octacvia. The question is rather, why there is so much oil coming out there. Like someone mention already, problem with turbo. But I guess handling that is a hard prblem. Leys behind motor and what would be the cost of that? Not anymore worth I supspect.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey Жыл бұрын
It usually won't be the actual turbo, but something connected to that system that isn't functioning correctly.

My Fabia it is the 1.4 MPI. But in the 2000's I had a 1.9 TDI for more than 350000 km. Never done that to the intercooler. I know that still circulate because the insurance for that license plate still exist. Must be drown in oil...

@HatBoyHarvey Is all the amount of oil we see normal?
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
There will be some oil when left for a few years, but if there is a lot of oil over just a year then you need to suspect the turbo. The turbo itself is usually OK, just the mechanism that needs refurbishing to work properly again :-)
