Cracking vid as per usual! Love your vids and nice to see your reassurance review for a car that I have. I have the Vrs Phev and its such a great family car. Coming from a golf r estate not wanting to sacrifice too much fun but wanting electric yet with insecurities of committing to a full electric vehicle, the octavia is brilliant. Im even prepared to say "The" best car in VAG group! Interior much more premium than VW and Audi (bar the sometimes frustrating infotainment system), the added quirky touches that a Skoda has and it has been a pleasant, enjoyable dabble into electric vehicles. I am fully prepared to say that after this car I will go for a full BEV based on such a good experience so far. By then I am sure there would also be improved electric charging infrastructure and a more competitive market of choice of large family BEV and performance vehicles 👍 Thank you for your effort and commitment to providing is with quality and enjoyable vids.

Looking forward to my first electric car, my current car is a petrol Octavia Estate and it is amazing for all the same reasons. Just driven from Hampshire to St Ives and back with the family and it covered the journey easily. I'd be happy with a a full electric but you are so right about the hybrid's needing to be more like the i3.

The main issue I have with a lot of the PHEVs is that you can't rapid charge them. I have the Outlander PHEV as I can plug it into Chademo and have 80% in 20 minutes. Alright it only gives me an additional 25 miles range, but if the battery is low, I can at least use EV power in towns. My next car will be an EV, but for me the Outlander is the best of all worlds currently. As usual great content.

I've owned two Octavia Estates. Good solid dependable cars. Very comfortable, very usable. I believe the Octavia is Europe's most popular estate car. I liked the little lidded storage cubbies under both front seats. Ironically, current Skodas seem as well built ( if not better ) than some VW's....... A very underrrated car, the Octavia. This Octavia PHEV makes the Mitsubishi one look 20 years out of date. The fact you seemed so relaxed driving the Octavia says it all.

Hi EVM. Thank you for a great video. I have heard that in some PHEVs, economy suffers because the internal combustion engine will come on automatically when you do certain things such as run the air con etc, effectively meaning you can never have an electric vehicle while the air con is on. Does the Octavia suffer from this? Thank you

At 7:53 when starting up the range gave a reading of 360miles &3 miles battery..assume if battery when full as you say gives 30mile, that only equates to 390miles. My vrs estate petrol does 400miles on a single tank, my diesel before that did 550miles on a single tank. A small 1.4 in such a big car &heavy with the batteries doesn’t seem the right pairing. A good idea in principle but not very well thought through in terms of execution and performance. Any chance of getting a bigger engine to pair with it?

How about the DSG gearbox? I have 1.0TSI 110hp Seat Ibiza FR with DSG7, was very happy about it, although you can feel it switches gears and it annoys me trying to pull away from intersections/roundabouts with second gear all the time, although the car is quite powerfull, the DSG gear changing is not so good. I have for parents DSG with diesel and I have tested few other cars with DSG, they all do the same. And it annoys me now even more, when I have an Seat Mii electric, there is no gear change and instantenous torque, no lag etc. I have expierenced only similar fluent driving only with Toyota Hybrids - yes, they make that annoying reving sound, but they don't lag as much and don't make a lot of this noticeable gear changes. As I understand in EV mode the car probably drives very good, but how DSG is in petrol mode?

I test drove a Seat Leon PHEV, much the same car, it had poor road and wind noise and at slow speeds the pedestrian 'wailing' noise could be heard in the cabin thus spoiling the quiet electric running. Why, Why Why? does Skoda go to the trouble of fitting an engine, gearbox and the hundreds of other mechanical components necessary to propel a vehicle on fossil fuel...and then make it more complex by combining an electrical drivetrain with a small battery, each lugging the weight of the other about, surely it would be easier at the manufacturing stage to just bung in batteries and a motor ... Crazy!

PHEV ? - That's a 100% NO GO !! All we need are BEVs for all purposes, starting today ! No matter what the producer tells any future possible customer, a PHEV is never an option, as it is still in the idea of the dinasores !!

You honestly think everyone can get a BEV right now?
@CurdinGees74
@CurdinGees74 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricVehicleMan Yes, everyone can get a BEV. Even used once.. There is absolutly no purpose for using a PHEV! The PHEVs just collect the worse of both worlds.. they stick to bad fossils and have a too small battery, with bad charging speeds.. just to find itself too heavy and are not even charged up too frequently unless you have your own charger at home. You take away the charging-points from the BEVs if you go to use CCS with a PHEV. So all summed up.. it's a definit NO GO for any kind of PHEV!
@CurdinGees74
@CurdinGees74 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricVehicleMan But to make it clear.. it's usually also the big mistake of the producers, who would not offer BEVs to ppl who want to buy a new car. So, they should also offer free conversion. So any kind of old car, can be transformed into a BEV. There are companies, that actually do it, sadly not for free. At the end the oil-industry has to pay for the conversions, if they want to be existing in the next 10 years!

So everyone can charge and afford a BEV? You honestly believe that!? Towing etc isn’t a problem either? The cheapest used EV is about £5k and will do 60miles. You genuinely believe everyone in the UK can afford a £5k car before we even contemplate charging at home etc? I’m sorry, you need to wake up and look around.

@@ElectricVehicleMan Well, I believe, that not everyone needs a car themselfs at first place. 2. Of course there can be ppl who have horses, with huge trailers, that might not yet have the chance to change immediatly. But the longer they run with the old car, the more it will cost.. ow.. it will go up in price very fast.. like double in 2 years. A decent car costs around £20k ! Or else it is not a save way to travel. you better use public transport if you can't afford that. ( just to say.. I do not own any car!) The total number of cars on the streets need to be taken down by at least 50% in the next 2 years! It might sound crazy.. but unless we act now, the climate crises will cost too many lifes and drillians of billians .. just to understand, that the damage that has been made by humans to the nature.. can NOT BE repaired !

ok, so this should have a big sign throught the video PROMOTION for Skoda. Nothing else. A lot of promoting Skoda but nothing relevant in terms of EV. First of all, WHY the hell should anyone pay 30+k for a cacophony of a vehicle? PHEV is a cacophony, has all the worst parts of combustion and electric tech. Phev have drastically smaller fuel tanks, so less range. Phev have small battery that charges slowly, so can't use in long trips (to say, combine with gas range to drive longer) But hr hurr, i drive daily less than 30 miles and fo whatever reason i can drive longer when i need. Well, hoopty fucking do, the same can be done with the ID3 60 which is similarly priced to this skoda. Phev carries the battery and all ev tech which means the gas engine is pulling more weight around and consumes more fuel than the simple non phev version. So you have smaller gas tank and increased fuel consumption. If you buy a phev you definitelly need home charging because of slow speed outside chargers won't be very effective, wasting hours for it. So why promote the notion of a phev if you can do the same with an full EV, not draggin around the stupid combustion complicated and heavy parts. But hurr durr, if you drive 1000km or more, you can arrive like 1 hour faster than an EV. Are you a truck delivery driver than needs to do 1000 miles in the shortest time? No, if you go that long it's on vacation so you don't need to race to the destination. You will take breaks for eating and stretching your legs and toilet needs anyway. Please for the love of god, don't be a whore for money to the manufacturers, and don't promote idiocies, otherwise you will be a scumbag like the regular "journalists" Imbecicles that eat the shit from automotive manufacturers marketing and spew in into the public. Notions like "four door coupe" "suv" "suv coupe" "turbo" (although it's an EV - Taycan). Those individuals have lost their credibility as journalists. So will you by promoting stupid tech.

Here we go again! Question. Do you think 100% of people can get a BEV right now? Afford it, charge it? In fact no, just watch this and wind your neck in! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmWkd4qBpcZ1n7c

You make no sense. Tank size does not matter.. it takes literally 1 minute to refuel gasoline. No, they do not consume more fuel for pulling the weight, this is not a Toyota Rav... The gasoline engine alone has a god consumption, better than many gasoline alone engines. 1000km 1 hour early? Hah, you wish, let´s say 3 hours, easily regardless of the EV. You are another blind, clueless fanboy. I do drive an EV, and Turbo Diesel. One complements the other on different areas. Hybrid cars should have Diesel engines and then youd be doing 1500km in one go... but the nwe have all the idiotic hippies going against Diesel, even though it pollutes less than Gasoline.

@@Aphorism89 If you don't understand then please go back mowing lawns, clearly your intellect is far too limited. Tanks size has a major impact on limiting range and finding out a gas station, range anxiety, wasting time to fill out. It takes a minute in your lizard brain. What about the stopping time?! If you drive 1500km in one go, then you are breaking physics laws, or you are a robot. Nobody in the real world needs that.
