Skowronek Horse of the Century 1

Wow this is cool to find. I hadn't looked up Skowronek in so long. He's an ancestors (I forget how far back) of my first Arabian gelding who passed approx 14 years ago. He was 34. I recall Raffles being on one side or both as well. I have the papers still but unsure where right now.. Anyways I had no idea his history was once thought to be lost forever. So cool it was later found.

Thank you - I stumbled across this video. Never saw good pictures of Skowronek before, and was always fan of Serafix - and now I know why. I agree with previous post - the "new" arabs have been overbred. I had a mare that was part arab years ago (a rescue)….I swear she had Crabbet in her The head structure was undeniable (along with her extreme intelligence and loyalty :) ). I had her for a little over 30 years.

Serafix was a "neighbor" of mine in the San Francisco Bay Area. I just reviewed his extended pedigree: fascinating! I used to be obsessed with the pedigrees. Lady Wentworth had so many generations to try to finesse "influences."

I had a beautiful colt with these bloodlines, grandson of Raffles. The sire was on the small side as well but beautifully built and his progeny were larger.

I don't think the Arabian Horse News set my Aunt gave me went back this far, but I had at least from 1963? So all the Wentworth heritage were my obsession. I believe Raffles and Raseyn were the two direct sons in America, but such a long list I could still recite of the grandsons. Bazy Tankersley sent Indraff get across the country. Funny memory fail: equally famous Scottsdale ranch made sure almost everything was related to Ferseyn (Raseyn). I shook hands with Frank McCoy, who had the handsome "Real McCoy," I believe a Ferseyn son. On the same college-time road trip I visited Silver Vanity in his older years in San Fernando (Not a Skowronek, if I remember, but straight from Wentworth Stud.)

I remember Naseem, Raffles, and *Raseyn from my Arabian Horse World books and magazines that I used to acquire as a teenager, always wanting to raise and/or breed my own horse (but it never happened and I always tried to keep up with the news on all breeds of horses and their off-springs)....plus I was also keeping track of the foals they helped produce and watched which kept their traits in the lineage....seen some of those in horse shows I attended. Thank you for the info, it gives me hope and helps me remember my teen years....I rode a half Arab/half Morgan many times, and wished I could have been able to have bought him at the time, but I had no where to actually keep and/or board him out, so I lost out on one of the best horses I rode, and being always together, we did have a bonding. He died in the mountains during a winter storm. The other horses came down to the stable, but he didn't. I think he wanted to stay up there because other people were mistreating and hurting him. He was more than just a horse to me, he was also my friend and listened to me whenever I was on his back, he had a beautiful rocking-chair like lope that could out-last the day's work schedule. He was one exceptional animal. I still miss him. God bless all animals and those who love and take care of them....HIGH 5

I have Crabbet Arabian horses with these bloodlines and conformation. Wonderful riding horses that look like the horses in this video. BUT cannot show them as modern horses do not look like this at all.

I agree, they've overbred the Arab appearance now so that they appear quite odd, and also are extremely nervous and excitable. I don't like how they look at all.

Having been a fanatic of the Arabians in my youth (Now age 71) I wasn't so taken with the new style, last time I saw a show (that was awhile ago...) So, empathy...
