Excellent review! You covered the "normal" commute type of driving very well. I think the one area that this beats the BMW and Mercedes is in the reliability factor. Very few cars today have both the high performance and great reliability built into their designs. That's why I just purchased a beautiful 2011 IS F 5.0 ;o)

I think this car has a bit of every platform you mentioned in the beginning of the video. It handles great, not as precise as an e90/92. It has the characteristics of a muscle car, yet it’s not as brutal as the displacement as the 6.3 in the MB. It has tech ahead of it’s time that got made fun of & now everyone has adopted it. Love my ISF. As you say, to just dawdle around town it is easy. Very tight turning circle too. Only downside for short city driving is the fuel consumption. About 15 litres per 100km or 15.5 mpg (US) You can bypass the 3,600 rpm intake flap by removing the small vacuum hose and plugging the ends. Sounds great from 1,800 or so 👍 When modified you keep the mild mannered car but at the track have a low 12 second or even high 11 second weapon. Mine is nice and quiet but capable of amazing performance. The only issue mechanically I have had is the famous (or infamous) valley plate leak. These are so reliable. Just get in and drive. Moreover on the highway, at a speed of 45-50mph, I get about 35mpg. Some annoying things I have had, 1) the transmission has no option to start from 2nd gear (maybe in the snow mode, didn't try that), 2) the ride is a bit stiff, I know some aftermarket parts to help improve, but I prefer stock. In the stock intake, you can cap off the vacuum actuator and have the secondary intake open all the time. I didn’t care for it but it’s worth a try. I didn’t feel the “extra” sound from what-ever-cruising-rpm (1000-2000) to 3600rpm was that special, because it revs through it so quick. I also noticed a lot of gas consumption running it like that. Also, the secondary intake path does not have a fresh source of air like the main inlet does. And so when you’re idling I’m sure the air temps go up kinda high being stagnant like that in the engine bay. Good review, I always wanted to try a tuned W204 C63. For example, you can also say the 90s was the golden era of Japanese sports cars with vehicles like the Supra, RX7, NSX, 300Z, VR4, S2000. Also, if you think about it, today is the golden era of muscle cars (not the late 60s) since we have the GT350/GT500, Camaro ZL1, Charge/Challenger Hellcats/Demon etc. I wonder what will be next!

Thanks for the comment! Welcome to OKC, yes there are a few. Today I went to a lowkey autocross at the Porsche car club in Edmond. The first Saturday of every month there is a cars and coffee at Chisholm creek area also.

If you adjust the screen dimness right before it locks out/clicks. The screen will change from night mode to day mode depending on brightness of the ambience. So, now you only have 2 things you don't like about it haha. Enjoy it I do enjoy mine! 😉

I have a 2009 Toyota Crown Athlete (with the 2GR-FSE - 3.5L V6) as my daily driver and a 2002 Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R (running 410hp) for the summer - I've been looking around at what will replace my Toyota for a while and I think it's gonna have to be an ISF! I wanted a big VIP car but couldn't justify a Crown Majesta with a 4.3 or 4.6L V8 as a daily driver... but my Crown was getting about 25mpg (20mpg in the US) and on a long run, it got 35mpg (29mpg US) which is pretty damn good for a 310hp car that weighs 1800kg! While they aren't amazing figures, they're great for what they are. But the Crown is just such a polar opposite car to my Silvia, so I want something a big more sporty, i.e. faster gearbox, shorter wheelbase, less boat-like handling characteristics but also still fairly luxury. Looks like this ticks all my boxes! Also, the bit you spoke about at 10:15 is called dual VVT-i, where it changes the valve timing at that RPM to allow for more fuel/air (but not to increase valve lift, like VTEC does - Toyota's version of this is called VVTL-i and Nissan's is NeoVVL.)

You need to adjust your head unit settings. You can default it to stay on the last screen you were on. Mine does not default to nav. Also. Don’t turn your cluster illumination knob all the way up or it will lock the screen into full bright all the time. Also…my 2010’s sport button is in the same place on the dash as yours. That may be a 2011+ thing, but I had never seen that button until you showed it.

Yea I believe I had mine in full blast haha. Really? One of my buddies with a 2010 had it on the steering wheel 🤷🏻♂️. Maybe they changed midway

Amazing review! By the way, have you noticed your ISF shifting gears a little jerky from a cold start? Mine does that and I'm not sure why. It goes away after about 3 minutes though once the car has warmed up.
@skrrtgarage39222 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yea mine has a little “lump” between 1-2 when very cold. I think that is somewhat normal

I had a B5 S4. 6 speed manual and the 4.2 V8. Leaked oil and timing chains made noise on startup with around 100k miles. That's a known thing with those. Worst thing that happens to the ISF is the valley plate leak. That's a one time fix at the dealership for $1000ish or by you/a trusted mechanic for hundreds less. I know several people with over 200k on their F's with just basic Toyota maintenance. Stock and FBO cars

@KnightIndustries5722 жыл бұрын
@@skrrtgarage3922 Yeah..but Not as wild as your IS F tho, total beast. MY IS350 is known as a Sports Luxury variant, so it's the top of the range variant for the normal IS models, it's absolutely mint, but an IS F is a MASSIVE jump in price, like 2.5 times. I paid $28k AUD late last year (with all on road costs etc etc), but a nice IS F, same year (circa 2013) is around $70k AUD, puts them a bit out if reach, Even a high mileage 08 is $40K AUD here.

The early E90 m3 uses different bearing material than the later ones, that's why you see them fail.

Not when they’re properly maintained plus there’s a fix for that issue, I see the running the track real hard and no issues whatsoever. I’ve seen a couple badges as 335i’s and they just have that sleeper look to them, amazing track weapons no doubt.

I love those old school muscle cars! Yes, but didn’t they change the horsepower ratings in 1971? Prior to 1971 cars where rated on gross horsepower and after they were rated on net horsepower. That’s another reason why the horsepower numbers dropped a ton.

Mattias Elias especially the harder you run it and the more you mod it the more constant mechanical failures you’ll encounter. They are best when left stock and driven occasionally those are the ones that last, sadly the rest have ended up in junkyards either crashed or mechanically doomed.
