I have a 1954 Russian sks in a synthetic stock. Bought a 5 round mag for hunting purposes, chambered a round to make sure it feeds fine, and found a small dimple on the primer. Just bought the firing pin assembly. Thank you for the video and thank you for the link to find the one I need.

you needed a new firing pin, they wear over time. My old one was the same way got a new one (NOS), cleaned the channel and works perfectly. I would only buy the murray if I had a bolt face issue.

I had a Murrays firing pin in my Yugo and fired Yugo corrosive ammo and somehow, even with the gas block way forward, some of the corrosive gases must have made it to the bolt. I cleaned the barrel and action after shooting but didn't clean the bolt. The spring rusted to the firing pin and inside of the bolt and got stuck. Moral of the story: Remove and clean and oil the firing pin and/or the spring after shooting corrosive ammo.

Thanks for the helpful tip Ralph.

Light moly grease on the firing pin won't burn if the firing pin is exposed to hot gases and moly grease is easily cleaned off with mineral spirits.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know there is a fp with spring, my sks free floating pin leaves a little mark on the next round that goes into the chamber, I'm afraid of misfire, but some people say this is normal on semiautomatic rifles. I definitely buy one. Thanks again

A slam fire can be kinda scary if you’re not expecting it. I got the firing pin and spring from Murray’s. Here’s the website murraysguns.com/sks-firing-pins/

Have had a problem with slam fires recently, did the new pin with the spring solve this? Also when I took it apart the pin moves freely when shaking it, but when I put it back together I noticed while racking the bolt you could see the pin sticking out??
@ncshootist3 жыл бұрын
I never had slam fires, but the spring and pin is supposed to fix those. My firing pin did the opposite; it would rattle in the bolt carrier but then stick inside and never stick out to strike the primer. If you’re having any firing pin troubles, I would recommend buying this kit.

Mine didn’t have one either to begin with since it’s a Yugo M59/66. Are you saying the replacement Murray’s firing pin didn’t come with a spring?
@beckderm4 жыл бұрын
Just took apart original firing pin. Does not have a spring. Murray’s firing pin is an upgrade with a spring. Original SKS don't come with a spring on their firing pin..

My firing pin used to be that way but the steel must have had a problem because it swelled. Personally, it’s cheap insurance to make sure your gun will fire when you want it to...or to keep it from going full auto when you don’t want it to.
