Another viewer from the Friesian Horses channel. Beautiful yachts and skilled mariners. Out of curiosity, how deep under water do those hulls reach, normally? I see they have leeboards on the sides, so I think they must be rather shallow in order to be able to navigate the canals. Thank you for sharing!

hey i sail on the half moon. we put almost nothing in the water, so we need the side boards because otherwise you float on the side due to pressure in sail ... I will see you again today in the steam.

The literal translation from Dutch to English of these types of boats is "flat-bottom". These specific ones are "skûtsjes". These ones they're racing with reach about 30-40cm under water. Originally flat-bottoms were designed in all sorts of shapes and sizes to haul all sorts of freight, depending on the region in the Netherlands. Indeed, it was to transport goods all across the shallow waters in different parts of the country.
