Man I miss racing lasers and 470's! The starts were always very chaotic as we all jockeyed for the best start position, everyone yelling 'STARBOARD!", near misses and sometimes crashes. I truly enjoyed the strategy of the sport as well, stealing wind, looking for good wind and smoother water. Nothing beats the sound of a humming centerboard on a fast broad reach!
@briancampbell5427

Brian Campbell Good an ya Roy! Brian your a nit picking non-correct ass. Are you a school teacher who is crap at his job?? In case you missed it he also mentioned 470's which can have humming centreboards, which I agree is a sweet moment especially on a broad reach if the wind is blowing enough! Happy Sailing Roy whatever your craft now...

I may be able to get Lase cheaper than the Finn so could you please advise if 85 kgs is good for laser i`m 182 tall . Thanks

Late reply but describing how it works (based on what I've read): 1. There are 10 opening races before the medal race, where all of the ~40 qualified sailors will race. 2. In each race, players are awarded points based on their position. For example, if I got 1st in a race, I will get 1 point and if I get 5th in the subsequent race, I will now have a total of 6 points. 3. After all 10 opening races, the points will be added up. Here, another thing that happens is that the race with the lowest score for each sailor will not be considered. 4. So if I come 1st in 9 races and 20th in the 10th race, my score will be 9 since the committee would've removed my 20th place finish while summing up the points. 5. Based on the above calculations, the 10 sailors with the lowest scores will move on to the medal race. 4. The medal race has a similar scoring system however the points double here. For example, Simon from Germany who finished first would now gain 2 points instead of 1, and Slingsby who finished 9th would gain 18 points. 5. Now the total points including the medal race are summed up, and the top three (the three lowest scorers!) receive their medals. Now this shows how insane Slingsby's performance was during the opening races, as he could have very well not even raced the medal race and would have still won a gold regardless. Kontides from Cyprus was the next best contender, which is why there was a focus on them despite both of them being 9th and 10th respectively. Hope it was clear!
