Man i disagree. The type 81 has nothing in common with the sks except the "short stroke gas piston" even then it's more similar to an svd gas system. Than an sks. Stamped receiver, rotating bolt, pistol grip, rocking style detachable 30rnd magazine...
@gustavohonzofo Жыл бұрын
*short stroke piston system *bolt hold open It's not a total clone obviously, but it's basically a shitty vz58 definitely has some things in common with a sks though. It's an amalgamation. It has more in common with a vz58 than a ak47
@3DVIDEOSMurray10 ай бұрын
Type 81 is ultimately better, but not proportionately with the market price. Better balance, detachable mags, better trigger, better recoil impulse, less likely to have FTF with hunting ammo, chromed chamber, easier to clean gas system, easier to disassemble for cleaning, more optics friendly, safer fire control mechanism, better safety switch, better bolt lock up, better aftermarket accessories in terms of quality and usefulness.

You have to ask yourself if it's worth quadruple the cost though
@stein57635 ай бұрын
@@gustavohonzofoThe problem is it isn’t quadruple the price lol. An SKS goes for roughly $500, a T81 goes for $1200 depending on when they bring imports in. Throw the SKS in a stock for about $200, add some detachable mags (which in hindsight I wouldn’t have done) and you’re at about $800 vs $1200.
@gustavohonzofo5 ай бұрын
It's only currently that they are this cheap they are already rising to 1500-1700$ and gp. The sks is just as hard to mount optics, almost as heavy, still chambered in 7.62x39, still has terrible ergonomics like the type 81. My point was why pay significantly more money for something 10% better@@stein5763
@stein57635 ай бұрын
@@gustavohonzofo You're right, I agree. Once this import dries up, we'll be back to the SKS being SIGNIFICANTLY better value, even when you pay for the polymer stock and all the goodies. But should we really compare the prices when the T81's price is in its worst? Why not just wait for an import to buy a Type 81 instead of putting its inflated costs against an SKS? I'd personally buy two SKS's before I ever bought a T81 simply because I love the SKS as a rifle of Canadian identity, but I think we should make the argument a bit more fair.
@gustavohonzofo5 ай бұрын
Even best case a sks being 400-500$ and the type 81 being 1200$ I don't personally think it's worth triple the cost for a 10% increase in capability but that's just my opinion.
@kevinforget54910 ай бұрын
true, i held a type 81 and it really feel like a 600-800 dollar gun, not 1200-1500. tiny charging handle, flimsy construction, long ass receiver, 180 degree safety throw, meh trigger. its literally a cope gun for the vz58. also i think the vz58 is a full pound lighter.

The value of a firearm is not merely confined to its functional characteristics. None of us is ever going to a real battle with them. We own them simply for the pleasure of owning them. Both are legendary, iconic pieces of history. No firearm is as iconic and legendary as an AK, and Type 81 is the closest thing to an AK as one can get in Canada. Visually that is. And that’s what defines its value. Also, I have no doubt it will eventually become prohibited, like all the other AK lookalikes before it. It’s just a matter of time. So there’s the get it while you still can factor. Great review otherwise, thank you.

The ability to reliably mount optis, reloading the firearm, pistol grip, folding stock, ease of maintenance, Magazine capacity, the trigger, and with the current prices of SKS's, buy the time you "upgrade" the SKS your not far off the price of a T81... Currently TI has the SR for $999.99. The T81 literally was conceived by the PLA based on taking the best qualities of the SKS and AK, and merging them into a superior rifle. You are looking at the comparison through the filter of silly Canadian gun laws which does nether of these rifles service. Not to mentioan after market support form SIGMACO has transformed this rifle into the modern era of firearms. @@gustavohonzofo
@gustavohonzofo11 ай бұрын
I would say the reload speed is better and you have detachable magazines. That's about it, buy any tapco or ati sks you have most of the things you mentioned all for 650-750$. It's heavier, much more expensive and I'm looking at it through canadian gun laws because no one else imports it since they have ak's.
@CanadaGunTube11 ай бұрын
😂 your wrong, they don’t have T81s in the states because importing them is banned, not because they don’t want them. Do you do three gun? Run drills? Or are you shooting trash on public land? There are so many advantages to the type 81 when you actually start to run the gun. What are you gonna do have a stripper clip holder on your war belt? Get serious about training and you’re going to see that the SKS is out dated and kinda sucks. When they were 180.00 it made sense to have some kicking around for your unprepared neighbours, but thats not the case anymore. If your in Alberta come out to the range and ill let ya handle a modern T81, with a red dot, fore grip, 90 degree AR style safety, quad rail, and you will be humming a different tune. Or conversely, let’s go run some drills and let the shot timer tell the tail. There is no way you are faster running an SKS than the T81. Anyway, weapons engineers in China deemed the T81 an advancement over the SKS 40 years ago and the Russians basically abandoned it at its inception, you’re not gonna convince me they were wrong.
@gustavohonzofo11 ай бұрын
Well even though we disagree I appreciate the call to action, I'm not around the area so I couldn't. I have run drills before, I don't profess to be a fantastic shooter though. When I went I wasn't able to keep up with the guys with any modern gun. Was able to surpass stock sks's and most other antiquated guns. In my particular sks I have the hi cal conversion so that's probably why since I had double the capacity and quicker mag changes than most. If I make to that area I will take you up on the offer. Would you think stock vs stock? Or modified vs modified?
@rickrick7011 ай бұрын
This is a dud type 81. The safety is on the incorrect side and it's stiff. My folder is not stiff and I have a mlok hand guard which covers the entire barrel upto the front site. I loved my sks however the ergonomics on the type 81 is unmatched. You are comparing a bubba tapco stock to a stock type 81. 😒

@ziggyz29587 ай бұрын
Thanks for the very honest review. I like the way you look at the practicality and functionality of both rifles. And since I also live in Canada, price is a big factor for me, especially after buying groceries and gas. The current state of gun laws in canada makes me want to cry when I think back decades ago when I still had a beautiful US military surplus M14 rifle. But with the current left wing government and limited options available, It looks like the SKS , may be the best option for me at this point. I really don't need a pistol grip, and those long banana mags would just drive me nuts, especially since they are pinned at 5 rounds. I prefer to wait until the next election is over before I spend a larger amount of money. If pierre wins wins then maybe we'll be able to buy some really cool stuff again. If justin castro wins, then at least I won't have a $1500 rifle confiscated.

Well I appreciate the kind words, glad you liked it. It's never been harder to be a canadian citizen and if price is a big factor. You can get a sks and trick it out to the 9's for half the price of a stock type 81
