Ok so in this day and age, we see a lot of bubba'd SKS rifles. The SKS is a platform that isn't easy to modify yet so many aftermarket parts are made available to sporterize the SKS. Customization of firearms and weapons have been popular for many centuries. Some folks find it fun and enjoyable to tinker with them. It’s really just become a part of our human history now. Well, in this video we take a dive into why the SKS is such popular Bubba gun!

I'll take the reliability of an SKS in any form, any time.

I bought and modded a $100 Chinese sks back in the 80s. To me an SKS is like a 10/22. Not collectible and begging to be modded up. Still have that SKS. Still a fine rifle.

I have an SKS and will keep it as is since it is all matching plus it has some cool trench art on the stock. I like restoring guns, I even restored a kar98k back to its military configuration. ^_^

Milsurp Mike sent me over, good breakdown of a Bubba rifle seen so many over the years always made appraising them difficult

I love the SKS, every iteration. I've owned several since the mid 90s, and I've kept at least one as a deer rifle just as long.

I have two SKS rifles and I've never thought to "sporterize" them LOL... I prefer these rifles in particular in the original configuration. My advice to anyone wanting to turn it into an AK or something is:

That’s why I love America if it’s my gun I’ll do what ever I want to it . Own a AR15 do something to it and it’s called customizing it do something to a SKS and it’s called a bubba gun ? If it’s yours do what you want to it !

I own a type 56 SKS and tapco furniture. I just got done pulling it apart down to the bare metal and putting it back together I wouldn't have mine any other way. Makes me happy. And I also own an ar-15.

Great vid as always. Personally I don’t see the point of modifying an SKS, especially these days. Maybe back when Chinese ones were $60 and Russian ones were $90, it would’ve been cheap to make something into a modern sporting rifle... especially since many (though far from all) of the Chinese guns were commercially made for the US market and not really of military/historic interest anyways. It almost would’ve been no different than modifying a Glock today. Today though it’s a different story, one would be lucky to score any original SKS in decent shape (military or commercial) for under $400, so by the time one throws on a plastic stock, duckbill mag, muzzle brake, scope rail, they’re very likely out more money than just buying an AR-15. Plus they’re left with something functionally inferior to an AR in most respects since the scope rail won’t hold zero and duckbill mags are notoriously finicky.

I have a very beautiful parker hale. It was built on a Mauser action and I can do my hair in the wood it's so shiney. But if Bubba knows to pull that bolt all the way back to clear a stove pipe. Then he should rock that SKS. I personally like the bit more of accuracy it gives.

I've bought several Mausers that were sporterized and put them back to original. I find the biggest abuse of military surplus is neglect of the bore after shooting corrosive ammo. That flat ruins a barrel.

Just bought my first sks,it was already bubbaed though, but I'm not too mad since the only change is a synthetic stock.

I recently got an yugo sks barreld reciever dirt cheap so i dont feel bad modifying it since it probably would have never been in working condition otherwise.

I replaced the upper hand guard with a railed NCstar with a holosight and got the 20 rnd archangel mag that feeds great. Just need a slip on stock extension and some friction tape now

I have two..one that I bought that is military surplus and one that I bought a barreled receiver and had to build out of aftermarket “bubba” parts. Is it still a sin to bubba the SKS if you are building it out of parts?

I dont see any tapcos stocks for the savage 110 or else banana mags for any rifles like the sks. The parts are there so it can be made to bubba.
