Wow, this was a close one. the KRK in all samples sounded more boxy. The Tannoy had more extension. On the sample of Mortals, the Tannoy really opened up and was spacious and fulfilling but the KRK took on a shrilling sound on the high end.The overall tonality goes to the Tannoy. On the sample Deep, both speakers did a good job; the differences were minimal.

I dunno. The Tannoy Golds have an obvious ~2khz peak while the frequency graphs show them otherwise closely matched, with the matching peaks being shorter and smoother on the tannoy.

I can't thank you enough for this, I literally expect to be using some monitors for mixing heavy metal and classical, so thanks for the metal test and "Bellissimo". Everyone's touting the Tanner's here, Idk.. sure, the classical bit sounded good through them, the KRK's muffling the trebles a little, but I thought the Tanners "coloured" the violin. As for the metal test, it's night and day... the KRK's weren't perfect, but tanners completely changed the sound of the rhythm guitar and also made it sound kinda weird. Some sort of midrange chicanery going on there.. . no bueno. Cool. Thanks again!

Awesome test man you finally got the tannoy 5s. I hope you test them against a few others, theyve been a really popular monitor. I think the krks held their own really well here. I think their mids are more balanced and neutral. But I would still take the tannoys even though they have a spike around 1.8khz and after 10khz which the manual even shows in tannoys own graph. The tannoys titanium dome tweeter sounds really nice and the coaxial design is really nice too plus class ab amps instead of d. Also when i owned the krk rp7g4s they hissed like crazy and was the reason I returned them so Im guessing the 5s and 8s do as well. This was also why I returned the fluid audio fx80s. Ive been doing lots of research on the tannoy golds and listened to every video of them online. The 8s have the flattest and most laid back sound. The 7s have more upper midrange and the 5s are the brightest at the very top end. Thanks to Digital Stereophony and a few others I only wanted the 8s but theyve been out of stock for over a month and wont be coming back for a long while. I managed to find a pair of demo model 8s. If anyone wants to hear the difference between the 7s and 5s I have a really good video link because they actually sound quite different. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJXYaZ-QocuFgdU Test starts at 3 minutes.

New subscriber and thank you for making these videos! I came for the Tannoy, and in some ways I'm preferring them to the KRK's, especially the Ping Pong track where you can clearly hear the imaging superiority, but the KRK's are countering with what seems to be a more dynamically expressive sound, which can be heard on the Jazz track, particularly the drums and the sense of the room acoustics. I still think I prefer the Tannoy overall though for the imaging and the timbre. How is the self noise at idle with the Tannoy's? They seem a little quieter on my LCD-1's but that could be me imagining it. I'd love to hear them against the MR-524.

정연쑤 TV I agree. However, the purpose of studio monitors, generally, is to get a mix that sounds good on a variety of equipment. The Yamaha NS-10M's have mixed some of the world's greatest music and they don't sound very good. If you could get the music to sound as good as possible on them then it would sound great on good equipment. The Tannoys sound less shouty in the midrange, to me. For listening, I'd definitely choose the Tannoy if I had to pick from this demonstration (which is excellent, btw).
@sergeysmelnik4 жыл бұрын
You cant forget that youre not just listening to the frequency response youre also listening to the individual drivers. A soft dome and metal dome tweeter may have the same response but will sound different simply because of the material theyre made of. The krks use a kevlar tweeter which sounds similar to a standard soft dome and the tannoys use basically a horn loaded titanium dome. Also one is coaxial and one is not and sitting close to the speakers the tannoys will have a better sound stage. The biggest issue with the tannoys is that peak around 1.8khz. Anyone doing any serious mixing should be using REW anyways to fix any major imbalances. Peaks are always easier to fix than dips and I would cure that on the tannoys very easily. Also if you hate massive self noise hiss then the krks will never make you happy. These new class d amps are ultra noisy. The tannoys us class ab.

I did quite a bit of studio work in several studios in the 90's. One studio that I worked in had Tannoys and several had NS-10M's. I loved to hear the playback on the Tannoys but it always sounded ho-hum on the Yamahas. That being said, the Yamahas were the monitor of choice for some of the best studios in the world. Either way, the music always came out good.
