So the lore behind the Slaughterbrute is that a Chaos warrior finds one in the wastelands and jumps on it's back. As the Brute thrashes about, trying to kill the warrior, another member of the tribe throws the warrior swords, which he uses to carve a Chaos star into it's back. After the eighth sword is in place, the tribe member tosses him the large totem, which is thrust into the middle. If the warrior survives long enough to complete this ritual, the Slaughterbrute is bound to him until death.

Contest of Champions #17 The march north was long and tiring, but Angar's army had just enough time to rest and catch its breath before being drawn into battle again. As Skulltaker challenges Morathi on the field of battle, both Angar and Aldubric lead their armies into danger once more. With three battles against the undead under his belt, Aldubric has at long last cornered the necromancer that has been so elusive, and Malakai Makaisson has begun his attack to put a permanent end to the problem's source. Angar, for his part, faces the dark elves in an open field battle atop grounds with no natural cover and long lines of sight. There will be no dodging or avoiding the ranged weapons of his enemy, and Angar isn't looking to wait around to see what that will entail. He marches his soldiers forward, whirling his axes to deflect as many of the armor piercing bolts as he can while the skullcannons distract the reaper bolt throwers. His flanks are secured by the chaos knights of khorne that have engaged the opposing cold one dread knights. The knights act as a distraction and an anvil while the khorngors rush in to help. Yet as Angar's soldiers reach the final stretch before they are to charge into the line of enemy spears, there is one glaring problem that Angar can't ignore! "It seems that we have the same problem as with the lizardmen," Angar bitterly remarks as he bats away a bolt. "Our enemy's leader is airborne, and so is their companion. If only we had an option to deal with them from a distance." Droshgnar chooses to say nothing, and when the melee clash begins, he stays no less than one step behind Angar. Allowing the chaos lord of Khorne to dive head first into a wall of dreadspears and take his rage out on the dark elf infantry. The skullcannons join the fray quicker than expected as they both had their cannons knocked out by the reaper bolt throwers. Their only option now is to join the melee and start healing the chaos warriors around them. With a swift backhand strike, Angar removes the head of a spearman from their shoulders before looking up. "Where are the furies, Droshgnar? They're the only things that we have right now that can touch those two!" "The first unit is dead, sir," the exalted hero replies. "We summoned them to attack the enemy's artillery, and they were shot out of the sky. It will be another minute or so before we can summon another unit." At this, Angar angrily states that it may as well be an hour. "Understood, sir, what do you want to do?" "Well first, cut down our enemies on the ground," Angar shouts. "If we deal with the ground forces then those two knife ears above us should leave. Then we're going to have to figure out how to get ourselves out of this mess because we left the marauder horsemen in the south so the lot of you wouldn't rip your hair out!" The chaos lord of Khorne is not the only one facing problems, yet across the world, there is a key difference in how the two lords handle their frustration. Seconds after striking down a cairn wraith with his halberd, Aldubric comments to himself, "Tzeentch certainly is making us work for the barrier boon he promised, conditioning it on that we have to survive against armor piercing weapons long enough to receive it by slaying the wielders of said weapons." He looks north towards the high ground, spotting the necromancer atop their corpse cart as the necromancer heals the undead soldiers with their cart's unholy lodestone and their magic. "That necromancer has to go," and Aldubric adjusts his gaze, "and thankfully my doubts about the daemonettes of Slaanesh have turned out to be somewhat unfounded." After smashing their way through a combination of black knights and dire wolves along the flanks of Aldubric's main line, the daemonettes and heartseekers of Slaanesh have at last moved behind the necromancer's soldiers. The daemonettes charge in first, striking into the rear of the grave guard with halberds and great weapons along the ends of the main infantry clash. The heartseekers strike further in, causing great devastation that allows Aldubric to lead a push in the center towards the necromancer. As the entire undead army begins to crumble away, the necromancer makes an attempt to escape while his remaining soldiers act as a distraction, but the undivided chaos lord reaches them first and cripples one of the cart's wheels. The necromancer attempts to flee on foot instead, but is unable to escape Aldubric who trips them with his halberd's beak before finishing this matter for good. The end result of this fourth battle is the completion of his contract with the dwarfs, but this success cannot be said about Angar's army. Frustrated, bloodied, and with less than half his army still alive, Angar looks around him at the now quiet battlefield. In his blood, Angar can feel that Aldubric was successful and will undoubtedly get stronger from this victory. He, however, has units down to as few as 8 living soldiers thanks to their enemy's spells and the number of bolts shot at them. As his skullcannons serve to heal his infantry while the dark elves withdraw, Angar mutters, "My unknown foe is scoring victories to match me in total victories while surely gaining new strength. Conversely, I'm here barely surviving battles. I need to think of something and fast to give us an edge, or we're going to be in trouble. Only I have no idea what that should be, and I have a bunch of fools around me who are going to make this harder on us all."

I do not think the island battles count towards defeating a lord. It is like taking a settlement with only a garrison in it. There is no actual lord so it does not work.
