He's as passionate as they come in regards to fly design, practical applications, why they catch fish, and what they are intended to imitate. We took a look at some of the insects in the Yakima River and used some of that knowledge to our advantage.

There are entertaining fly fishing videos (and they can be fabulous), and there are educational videos (which can be invaluable), this one was heavy on the education (A+) and yet really fun to watch. I appreciate your work.

Oh you can make one easy. Two dowels and some mosquito bug screen fixed at the sides.

Oh yes I'm spoiled in many ways ha! Indeed. The water is still pretty chilly but the fish are pre-spawn now and getting hungry with the longer days.

I love fishing mini leeches in CO but I'm thinking mine are too short. Based on the size you were getting out of the water I think I'll tie some bigger ones when the small guys aren't working. Great video!

Great video. I have a kick net just like that. I’m curious how long did you hold the net in the current to get that many bugs? Do you kick rocks up upstream as well?

Hey Joe, I live in Roslyn and this will be my first year fishing Skwala season. Did you guys see any fish surface before you started fishing drys or did you just assume that they would eat an Emma stone? One of the biggest fish I’ve caught on the Yakima was on a salmon fly although I hadn’t seen any other fish surface.

Oh yes absolutely, many times I've been fishing or guiding using nymphs or streamers and you see a fish feed on the surface. Then you can switch it up to a dry and BAM! Fish on.

Still rocking the violet lenses or have you tried out the rose mirror?

I'm wearing green mirror Costas a lot on really bright days but find myself using the Violet 90% of the time. It's the shady spots and dark days that I really need to see. On bright days everything is pretty visible.
