Steve Irwin was one of those people that made you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing the day he passed. I was in 8th grade and had just come home from school. I started channel surfing on our TV, and briefly caught a clip of Steve Irwin on a news station. He was enthusiastically talking about a snake. I smiled and then clicked to the next channel because another show I loved was about to air. I had no clue what the news segment was about because I didn’t stay on the station long enough to find out. Within 30 minutes, my older brother arrived home and asked in solemn disbelief, “Did you hear about Steve Irwin?” I felt my heart ache for a second and I jumped to a slightly more hopeful conclusion: “Did he get bitten by a venomous snake? What is it?” My brother shook his head and answered, “No, he died. A stingray killed him.” I honestly didn’t believe him at first. I just said, “No, he didn’t.” I searched for any signs of deception in my brother’s face. I quickly realized he was being sincere. I grabbed the remote and frantically flipped back to the news. They were still reporting on him. I checked the other news stations. They were all reporting on the death of Steve. I was shocked and heartbroken. He had such an impact on me growing up and still does. I’ve been rewatching his show and his family’s new show. I just applied to work at a local accredited zoo that really focuses on conservation. Fingers crossed. I really owe it all to Steve. 😢❤️

It would have been Steve Irwin’s 60th birthday on 22nd February 2022. Terri, Bindi, her husband Chandler, their child Grace, Steve’s dad Bob and Robert would have been so happy. Steve’s mum Lyn would have been delighted as well if she wasn’t in that tragic accident over 20 years ago. Steve’s sisters Joy and Mandy would have been so pleased too and other relatives of Steve would have been going “yay, Steve is now 60 years old!” That stingray attack was a heartbreaking way to die. I'm gonna get stick for saying this but he probably would have wanted to go out that way. His lifelong goal was to not only observe wildlife but to also interact with it probably because he was envious of that life. It could have been a snake or a crocodile that ended him but it just so happened to be a stingray. Danger was not even an afterthought for him.
