Some comebacks would have seen the team in Madrids position have to fight & scrap to try and grind out the last 20+ minutes after the penalty, but City were mainly gone by then, only one or two players still had any belief, most of them looked lost. Compare how City played after the third goal to how AC Milan played after conceding the equaliser in Istanbul 2005 - night and day difference, they were unlucky that game went to penalties with the way they reacted to the comeback - Liverpool were hanging on at the end.
