I don't remember what I was thinking at the time. Anyway, I see that I misspoke! I think I wanted to see more of what you were talking about. More time on close-ups and such.

That makes more sense! It depends on the build, for some of the more complex projects I go into greater detail.

Oh, I luv the little clamp idea. Genius!

I'm sure I got that from some 60's airplane mag; by the way, the clothespins shown in the video are the originals stolen from my mothers clothesline in the 60s! they last forever

domoremath Fantastic! I’ve just made a mini 36” span Bird of Time glider. 36” sounds big, but the fuselage is minuscule! I had to use surgical skills to fit the servos. It looks fab and, at 34g, flies very well. Can’t wait to catch a thermal and fly with the buzzards! Luv yr channel, dude, reminds me of my year living in NYC back in the 80s.

I can't wait to see this one fly. The Senator is coming along great as well. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, I really need to also finish the Senator by this Fall, I'm hoping that maybe then I can finally do some outdoor flying again after a long dry spell, indoor isn't looking good for the Fall right now.

Great video. I have seen this model before on the jhaerspace channel and it looks very interesting. Love the folding prop mechanism. I have 2 30inch rubber powered models, on the building board but my flying field is too small for free flight with models of this size. I hope to outfit then with miniature radio like you have been. Thanks for all of the info you have provided on doing this
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
I think 30" is the perfect size for rudder-only RC, it can easily handle the extra weight, so nice to hear you are putting RC rudder in your two planes, that will allow you to have fun flying them full blast in your local field!

If you want something super-fast to build for RC rubber, it's hard to beat!

this is soo great I've been wanting to get one of these and do a rc conversion as well ever since I saw Josh's video of his on J&Haerospace's youtube channel. they look like really great bang for your buck

yes, can't beat it, gets you out flying fast!

Yes, hopefully by the Spring, February is usually too cold/windy, but maybe by March I can get out again.

Great stuff! I have one of these from Josh and Hope. I assembled it for free flight, though Josh reckons it's good for an RC conversion, which I had been considering. Sadly, with lockdown, I've not had a test flight :(

Nice work on this! What receiver are you using?
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, this was the orange 415 receiver, shown in my 'even lighter RC' equipment video. Unfortunately it's been discontinued (but I still have a bunch so it will show up in future videos), so I'd go with the Lemon receiver, also shown in the lighter RC video with link.

Bit late here but if you see this could you please do video on how to make the half tube for winding outside the fuselage. Thanks.
@domoremath3 жыл бұрын
OK, I just use a Dremel so it's primitive and messy. I don't like making the tubes, but I might need a new one for my latest project, so I'll video it if I do.

@@domoremath Thank you, would be a great help. I think I know what to do but not too sure.

Yes, rubber with R/C is the way to go (if you have a field big enough) unless, of course, you like lots of long hikes and lost airplanes. What R/C gear did you install and where can I purchase it? Is there anything even lighter available? Could a very small geared electric motor replace the rubber on this airplane?
@domoremath3 жыл бұрын
I'm flying in a 1.3 acre field, you can fly in a lot of HS fields, which really opens up the possibilities for rubber power flying! My other video gives the RC gear, kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4eQk6uKhteHmrM , also see the newest comments for updates. I haven't seen anything much lighter with full-range equipment, if you find anything let me know. You could probably use an electric motor for the Voyager (I think I saw that somewhere), but I'm a rubber-only flyer, I like the challenge of rubber power.
@Glicksman13 жыл бұрын
@@domoremath Thanks. That looks like a very good system. I don't know if it's full range, but the Spektrum AS6410L DSMX 6-Channel Ultra Micro AS3X Receiver with ESC, for $59.99 appears to be ultra-light and is inexpensive. As a single unit with RX, two linear servos, and an ESC if you want to go electric power, it seems to be a good bargain and a weight saver. This unit is in Josh's Voyager and, as you know, he gets great flights from it from his backyard. It's essentially, if not actually, the unit in the Vapor airplane. One more thing. I have thought for a while that perhaps there might be a way to keep the rubber wound while flying with a very small switchable onboard electric motor. Any thoughts about this?
@domoremath3 жыл бұрын
@@Glicksman1 Yes, I also have some of those receivers, they weigh about the same (with two linear servos) as the single servo system I use. Actually, I would vote against anything more than rudder-only, I've already seen a video where they don't have it trimmed properly and use the elevator during the climb to make up for it. If you've trimmed it correctly, you don't need elevator, rudder-only is more than enough, as I think a lot of my videos demonstrate. Not surprising, but I wouldn't go for any electric boost to the rubber, I'm anti-gadget, I can get great flights without the gadgets! I'd rather see people learning how to trim properly.
@Glicksman13 жыл бұрын
@@domoremath Thank you. I agree. Proper pitch trim is the best way to go for all flying model airplanes, elevator control or not. It's a skill all flyers ought to learn and improve. With your excellent advice and example, I'm contemplating the single-channel (rudder) concept for the Voyager. Still, any way to increase flight time and still have rubber power could be a good thing. Thank you.

@@domoremath Thanks. I just got a couple of the lemon receivers. I think those are going to work. What kind of connector is needed for the little Eflite batteries (the 70mAh for instance). I've posted this question in a couple other videos (just now). I'm sorry about the repetition. I'm an old guy and just figuring out KZbin. Love your stuff from The City. My daughter went to NYU and we got to spend a lot of time there during her 4 years.
@domoremath4 жыл бұрын
I'm also an old guy, but posting the question once is enough, thanks! But anyway, your question is good because I've seen several different names for these connectors, so I can't say with certainty, I'm hoping someone else can give a definitive answer. In any case, the correct connector can be found by doing a search on 'micro-6 adapter' and you'll find 6 of the correct plugs (from common sense RC) on a chord that you can cut off and use, that way you get 6 plugs in a shot for 11 bucks.
@scotthoeschen38254 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I ordered that cable from common sense RC. Just got the voyager kit from J&H today. Going to try and make it happen with the lemon receiver. Fingers crossed. My first foray into the RC world.
