Skoda Octavia 1.6 Tdi SE CR 2012 271K miles

I bought one of these, almost identical to the one in the video, recently off a neighbour with 220,000 miles on it. Very nice car. I've done a few jobs to get it to 100%. Re-gassed air-con, done a couple of months ago and holding good to date, £40. Two premium front tires, £160. Alternator failed, just swapped out the regulator £27 (and a fair bit of effort, It's a Bosch 140A). Changed front discs and brakes to get rid of vibrations on braking, £80. Wheel alignment because steering wheel was off centre, £40. Obviously, I did a full service, cost me about $80 all in for oil and all filters. Timing belt was done 50,000 miles ago, so good for another 90K. So far very impressed, runs like a dream. Most of the miles on it were motorway miles, so wear and tear should be not too bad. These diesel models are made to cruise on motorways and clock up miles. It's spotless inside and out, better than the model in the video. Not bad for £2950, plus another £350 on parts, so cost me £3300 for a spotless car running like a dream. Regularly serviced and a bit of luck and they will go forever. Hopefully it lasts me a few years :-)

@@cumminsdriver7439 No, not so far. Had a problem with the EGR valve. Needed replacing. Big job because it’s buried in the back of the engine. Cost me €750 to get fitted with genuine Skoda part. They are a known headache on these CAYC engines. Also fan blower regulator went, easy fix, €20 part.

@@cumminsdriver7439 My son bought one of these on a '62' plate and at the time it had covered 63,000 miles. Within 12 months and upon reaching around it's 10th birthday, the car failed on the M6 Motorway due to a faulty injector. Luckily my son was able to get recovered. Upon further research we found out that VW/Audi who own Skoda fitted all their 1.6 CR TDI engines at that time with Bosch Siemens Injectors which as time went by proved extremely unreliable. We took the car to a local Diesel Specialist who willingly offered to replace the one defective injector but suggested it was only a matter of time before the other three went the same way. We bit the bullet and had all four injectors changed along with a new Fuel Filter. The cost was just over £2,000 which sounds absurd but the injectors themselves are around £400 each !! We could have gone down the road of refurbished injectors but just wanted some long term peace of mind. That was some 12 months ago now and since when the car runs fine. The Diesel Specialist suggested big mileage was largely irrelevant and that the age of the car was more likely to bring about injector failures with 10 years being around the norm as in our case. The most popular patient to turn up at his repair workshop was the VW Caddy Van fitted with the same 1.6CR TDI engine. He claimed to be repairing these on an almost weekly basis. Hope this helps.

For me ive heard horror stories about that engine especially with egr vavles couple that with that with faulty dsg box lol and uve got 5 grand repairs? Stick with 1.9 pd engine everything easy to get to although abit noisier?
