Good to see you again Sky, and back with the Nightwish. Tis true, every Nightwish song is different. Marko, the bassist, sings on many songs, even lead on occasion. However, it is Tuomas, the keyboard player, that writes the vast majority of music and lyrics. If you like the devil/angel contrast, there is another song, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, where Marko sings the Devil part, and Floor sings the mermaid part. It rocks pretty hard too. Hope your 2022 is even better than ‘21.

But you've only heard Marko's gritty voice. You need to know that his voice is nearly as versatile as Floor's, and he can sing clean when he wants to or needs to. Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist and songwriter of Nightwish) is the main composer for Nightwish. Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This song is from "Imaginaerum" (the seventh studio album from Anette era). Marko has great menacing tone here , and Floor Growls ( only few will notes this ). Plus , this song has a crazy Van Halen Vibe to it ( Van Halen - Aint Talkin' Bout Love comes to mind ). This song took me several listens and deep dive at first , and now I listen this song daily . You can think Marko & Floor sound different, but believe me there are times their notes are so close you can’t tell who is singing on top. Then she of course, you haven’t heard that “all woman” Floor growl! The writer for this group is mostly Tuomas, a genius, btw, & keyboardist. Just wait! Keep on going. The “devil and angel” aesthetic is common in symphonic metal and goth music. Typically it is called “Beauty and Beast” vocals. Check out bands like Lacuna Coil and L’ame Immortal for good examples of this style.

There are lots though, hope you get to everything eventually. And Marko is a good songwriter on his own, but Tuomas writes about 95% of Nightwish material although with input from everyone else during recording.
