Instead of duct tape, I prefer masking tape! It's less aggressively sticky, gives off less residue, and comes in smaller widths and thicknesses allowing for more accurate patterning. Pricing wise, it's cheaper but you need to use at least 3 layers crosshatched to make the pattern not rip when it comes time to peel it off.
@tankoi13213 жыл бұрын
I tried that and it works great! Although it kept popping off so i put a layer of duck tape over it.
@Ecstacy3332 жыл бұрын
@@tankoi1321 you could also put multiple layers on top of it, if that doesnt work it may be your tape. Whatever works tho
@erebosthemogoreg2 жыл бұрын
I have a common problem with tape popping off during taping up the pieces. It just really doesn't want to stick and this is like brand new duct tape every time. It just seems to hate foam.
@Lesleylooz2 жыл бұрын
Masking tape is definitely the best, otherwise your fursuit will be 0.0 okay but okay 0.0

I remember when I commissioned a relatively big name maker and was so excited, only to see when it got to me that they lined the head with minky. I remember thinking I was going crazy because surely such a seasoned maker wouldn't make that sort of mistake

@@Talashazuwu Mine is lined with fleece aswell. If you wear a balaclava, its no problem but without it gets very wet. I dont think the fleece makes any difference in themprature, because there are layers of many centimeters everywhere, so there will be no aircirculation and with that no aircooling.

Could have sworn darts in sewing were small triangle cut outs that get sewn together to create smooth curves, not marks on the pattern to show which pieces connect where.
@mirror16433 жыл бұрын
same mabey they are both darts
@creator_of_messes36102 жыл бұрын
@@mirror1643 Darts are indeed small seams used to shape fabric without full seams, the word you'd be looking for are notches which are either small markings or cuts inside the seam allowances to show where pieces line up with each other!
@PilotLightKitty2 жыл бұрын
Correct, darts are when you make those cuts on the fabric and marks on the pattern (or piece when transferred) are called registration marks.

When I pattern, I’ll put R and L for right and left and then I’ll have a category within it. Like R: A, L: A and then for the front, R: A : 1, and the back is R : A : 2

I use dollar tree duct tape. It's a very whimpy and weak adhesive and tape in general, but works great for patterning. I also stick it and peel it off of any scrap fabric to make it come off easily

a tip for USA suit makers is using painters tape for patterns, ever since I started using it all my patterns come of super clean and smooth. but yes our duck tape is mainly used on boats and planes.

I had a good experience with my most recent head by doing a layer of painter's tape on the foam, then a duct tape layer to hold it together, it really kept its shape well and peeled off super easy.

My first foam base fursuit head I made got ripped apart by the masking tape I used on it, kinda glad i'm not the only one who ever had that problem. also, I used the clingwrap method on my fully furred dinomask and it turned out pretty well to be honest. It's pretty tight on the mask and I haven't had any problems with it being loose or anything. I'm assuming it wouldn't be the same experience on foam, though.

Yeah same here because you can’t really wrap a fursuit head with cling wrap. I used packaging tape before on foam and it came of easily surprisingly.

Actually if you use a really cheap hot glue durability can be an issue with normal wear, you have to use a good brand like gorilla glue or something, not the cheapest stuff you can get at Walmart, I made that mistake and i have to use a lot of extra glue to get a secure hold.

Or washable marker. For darker furs where marker won't show up you can use white tailor's chalk. I have disappearing markers but the ink doesn't last long though the lines are very precise.
@eeehhh9823 жыл бұрын
Black or metallic silver sharpie only. If you're using super light colors and don't mind washing before sewing you could try with washable markers (CRAYOLA BRAND ONLY DON'T TRUST CHEAPER BRANDS). However, they also smear while sewing so it's only really worth it if you're working with some light fur you really don't want to stain.

I've had success with posca pens (acrylic paint markers) but they're slightly expensive. the white marker is definitely worth it though

Is cotton fabric safe for lining?
@PilotLightKitty2 жыл бұрын
Yes, 100% cotton fabric is safe for lining and is actually a pretty good choice. I see many makers use it and it comes in lots of fun prints. It is generally considered good at wicking moisture and having good air flow through the fabric (Though please do not be mistaken by this phrasing. Still cut out things like eyeholes and a mouth for actual airflow so you can breathe while wearing your head).
