As I became a furry and wanted a fursuit, I didn't really want to buy one right away, I wanted to make one instead. Of course, clear mistakes where made on my first suit. My second suit was a lot better, but I still made some errors that long time makers pointed out. My third one was the one I was kind of happy with. Between all the suits , all I did was do research and watch fursuit tutorials over and over for months. Take your time, there can be errors, learn from your mistakes, and try again.

For people learning to sew, I’d recommend practicing with making pillowcases or pillows first! They’re super easy and fun to make and honestly making pillowcases helped me learn to sew super quickly You can also make them fun shapes to learn how to sew in different directions. You can make heart pillows to learn to sew circular shapes, star pillows to learn tight corners and sharp edges, and heck even smiley face pillows.

I made a LOT of mistakes on my first two suits 😅 The first one, I made it WAY too small and since I layered the foam, it didn’t stick together with glue. The muzzle was just one piece of foam that was bent to look like a muzzle. My second head : It is WAYYYYY too big. You would have to have the biggest head in the world to make it fit perfectly. I made the top of the head flat... aaaa...... the muzzle was pretty good, but I ran out of foam to make cheeks. So the base was just really plain and had no shape. I used felt for the nose and mouth lining, and it was really messy. I have not finished any of these suits. And I will NOT finish any of these suits. Soon I’m going to go on a small shopping spree for materials and try to make a suit. So I hope it turns out! And also. dear young furs such as me, literaly listen to skye, learn to sew, oml its helped me soo much not just with making fur suit parts as it can benifit alot more than that. Example: you are running in the park with your friends and you trip and you get a hole in one of you pieces of clothing that you love so much, its only a small hole thats easily sewed up, but, you dont know how to sew. You carry on your day but the hole gets bigger and bigger to the point where you have to throw away that one bit of clothing that may have been very special to you because say your grandma that passed away bought it for you. See how if you just learned to sew that tiny hole you wouldnt have to throw it away

I didn't realize how long it would take to really make one until I started making one. It actually turned out to be a great help to building my patience and perseverance when it comes to hands on projects. It also allowed me to realize that I enjoy hands on projects more than digital projects. It gives me a bit of euphoria and motivation to continue with the digital arts such as videography, photography and drawing that I also enjoy doing along side. Basically, just do a lot of research into fursuits and fursuit making, then jump into it and learn as you go. And don't get discouraged if your first suit turns out rough or bad because you can just do better on your next one and learn from your mistakes. Or at least that's what I did and I don't regret it. :)

You say that yet I think I've spent over $1,000 on all my equipment so far. My dad spent $740 for me on a sewing machine and my mom spent an extra $200 for me on this pair of Oster clippers that I asked if she would buy for me and she said sure. Technically I owe my dad at least half the amount of money for this sewing machine and I'm fine with that but that's another story. I'm trying my hardest to become a fursuit maker and as you even know this is stupid hard to get into. And it's a lot of time consuming I've probably wasted a lot of fabric already that I personally bought myself. I honestly love Joanne's. I have three different furs and I'm trying my hardest not to waste any of it. I have black white and this husky mix looking for where it's like brown and gray and black. I've got a lot of minky too red black brown and white. The amount of stuff I've put into this is ridiculous. But I'm trying to follow your tutorials and they are not easy. I've gone into working on paws and I feel likeI should not be starting here maybe I should have started on tails or something. I think that'll be my next project once I figure out how to get some paws down. I have a general idea of what I'm doing but I'm really afraid that I'm going to screw up the fabric which is why I got some cheapo $2 a yard fabric to test my machine on and see what I can do to make and I even made some covid 19 masks which they came out okay but not as good as I wanted them to

When preparing to make a fursuit consider practice with smaller projects with transferable skills. Before I made my first suit I made a couple of long furbies to get my confidence and fur sewing skills up.

I just recently began making legs for a cow oc. It’s my first time working with sewing and costumes. It wont be a full suit. The oc is more of a faun. (he’s my pfp) I’m doing some tweaks to make him more cosplay friendly. I got some pretty decent fur at a local fabric shop, at a total for around 85 usd. So far it’s going really well, and the deadline is in a year, so i have plenty of time. (The only reson i’m allowed to make this is that i’m gonna use it for a ‘going out of school’ costume party thing next year)

I have bine researching for a while on Dutch angel dragons I saved up enough money and bought some nice fur from big z fabric and I got a head base from one of my fav Etsy shops! The Dutch angel dragon I’m making is a brown and white Dutch angel dragon with green and white horns it’s named ivy! I can’t wait to get to started and I’m here trying to make sure i don’t make these mistakes lol! Wish me luck!!!

I’m currently working on my first fursuit, and I’m making it a full digi suit. I feel like I may be biting off more than I can chew so early on, but I’m determined at this point. It’s a pretty simple design to start, just so I can get used to the basics of everything. I’m really excited to see it all come together once I’ve furred it!

I bought some of my stuff from amazon, now before anyone judges I have a pretty good reason, I found great almost ZERO one star reviews on this stuff and it wasn't ungodly priced and the last of it is coming next week. I have some super thin foam for the eyes and smal details then I have bigger foam
@oceanhusky33804 жыл бұрын
I'm making a suit soon! I looked at a ton of tutorials, realized I needed to use plastic instead of foam for the eyes, and sew the fur. I am going to buy an expanding foam base, just because I feel like I couldn’t make a foam head good. I am a young fur and totally think everyone beginning to make fursuits should watch as many tutorials as possible, and maybe follow a pattern or buy a base.

random tip! neffertity posted this on her tiktok- she says that good source of cheap but good quality fur is one of those area rugs from walmart. (or whatever store you have locally) it has a strong backing and if i remember from her video it comes in a variety of colours. happy making fellow commenters! edit : i wanna post a second comment but i figured i'd just add onto this one instead lol. my first suit (which never got furred, er.. fleeced in my case) looked like a deformed rat. it was wayy too blocky + my snoot was the empire state building of snoots. basically, it was crap. but i think my next could be better; i learned a LOT from Delilah 1.0

@@SkyehighStudios I know right! I was thinking of using a fluffy rug I saw at spotlight- you know those white ones? But it was like 65 dollars so I decided to head to the foam and materials section. I got the foam (it was 40 dollars, r.i.p my wallet) and fur (which was I think 20 dollars for a metre) but I regret the fur choice, because it’s jet black so you can’t see any details in the suit which made me sad :( Sorry for rambling on- I do that a lot haha

I’m currently making my 2nd suit this time I did research, I spent at least 4 hours making the base, and only thing I didn’t do was tape the head…. But it still looks okay I plan on giving it to my brother (because it doesn’t look that good in my opinion but to him it looks amazing)

Hello! I am a young fur and I'm currently making my first fursuit for my first convention!!! I have made many errors and may continue to make them. I don't have a sewing machine so I sadly have to hot glue everything. I also don't have access to the right foam. It's going not-so-well so far but I'm trying not to give up! This video helped me a lot as well!

This is going to help me a lot! My mom said that shes not allowing me to get a bat dragon partial cause she said shes letting me get a full one. Problem is 1 that I am not the best so I don't want a lot of money to get wasted, 2 Idk how to make a full, 3 it will be more expensive and even if my mom is paying for it I don't want her to spend hundreds of dollars, 4 I will grow out of it. It is also a rare species not in the fandom(bat dragon by bethink and newfissy who are game devs) and so this will help a lot! I am over preparing now and am excited to get them for the summer since I will be going to a convention with them! Once again thx a lot!

Here's how my first suit is going: I got the base off on Kamen Hamster! I cut off the ears and nostrils. And right now I'm making new ears, making eyelids (Im making a grumpy suit) and picking my fur! I spent around $110 so far! I'm excited to see my suit come to life!

I’m (kind of) new to making fursuits and for my first one I made the following mistakes: I did not use the crown method when making the bucket head I rushed my base because I REALLY wanted to work with the fur as soon as possible I didn’t use duct tape for the patterns, i didn’t use a pattern at all I just cut out random pieces of fabric and GLUED it on I DIDNT SEW A SINGLE PIECE, I ONLY USED HOT GLUE SMHHHHHHH I didn’t save up for fur, I just bought the cheapest thing I could find on Amazon. Hopefully in the future I will not make these mistakes again

Tried doing tutorials, but it didn't work. My Mom thought of getting a group of YoungFurs together with me and could help each other out making our Suits. My family struggles with money, so making a Suit is the cheapest route. I'm more of an artist then a Suit maker. I tried making paws, but.... They were too close together and you can't even make them out as paws. Edit: Despite this, my boyfriend will buy a premade one for me on The Dealers Den. I've seen their prices and they look so cheap! I saw a 3/4 suit for.... $550? I was shock. The suit looked well made as well. Idk if The Dealers Den is a good place for starter suits. Although I'm a YoungFur, I stopped growing.

My first suit was trash. But now I'm on my 8th suit which looks amazing! I did my research and paper designs for about a year. But I just wanted it so soon that it was crap. Now I'm doing a Doberman.im using luxury shag, a sewing machine, goooood hot glue gun, and good foam. My base is very SMOOTH and I'm glad I watched this anyway

I tried to make a fnaf costume when I was younger using glue to hold it together. It's about 5 years later and I love making costumes and drawing animals, and making little animations, and discovered what the furry community is really about and love it, hoping I can make a fursuit of a wendigo type creature (black dog like creature with a wolf skull)

The videos part is very true, Befor I started making suits all I did all day was watch tutorials for months and while making the head I watched a tutorial and replayed it multiple times to get it right, it looked good but at the time I was afraid to shave it but when I did finally shave it, it looked great. Tbh I love hand sewing, it's very relaxing and simple but it's a lot better and faster to use a sewing machine, I do have a sewing machine but my cats broke the spool pins off by nocking my table over so I'm now waiting for my new parts to come it. And this video definitely is very helpful for beginners! (Tad of a rant sry)

I'm a suit maker who can't afford luxury fur but that doesn't stop me from making good quality suits! (I hope they're good at least haha) I use minky style blankets and try to design characters that will work with such a short pile fabric. Honestly I really recommend blankets for first time makers who already have some sewing experience !! :D
