Another block you can try playing with is the Heat Vent block, it's a vent that opens up and gets brighter the more power is used by your grid so you can make them burn bright orange when your refinery's are running and lifeless when they are not. The only trick is that they track the over all power being used by your whole base, so you will need to set the minimum threshold over the normal power out put of your base so that they only crank up when your refinery's are firing at full power.

Only issue then is, that it never gets finished because, before it gets as big as it was intended, yet another new project gets started! I mean, have you seen the HUGE Central Core that he started working towards five episodes ago? Oh no, that's right, there *is* no huge Central Core (yet). Hehehehehe... jk, Skye!

And to think you haven't even made it to the "Space" in "Space Engineers" yet :) You're going to have a lot of fun with this once you get to that interplanetary logistics phase. Hope to see you try your hand at making an "Asteroid Eater" eventually :)

Quick building tip: if you press "B" you can cycle between different building modes. One of them allows you to snap to the base even when looking at the ground instead of having to try and reach the 5 exposed pixels of the block face you want to place it on. Can save a lot of hassle with these types of builds.

What you need to do what some veteran space engineers players do is put a camera block on the back of your minner to use as a reverse camera so you don't damage your ship

a suggestion is to setup a gravel dumping station since after a certain point, it becomes useless. You setup a sorter to a connector far away from your base and then set the connector to just throw out

You are so much more creative and artistic in your builds. i have so many things bookmarked for making stuff in space engineers for inspiration. Here is a thing that might be useful to you. a list of RGB values for real world lights for you to apply to your lights in the base. I recommend naming your lights and grouping them before things get too complex and it becomes a major daunting task. (a shameless copy from a subreddit post 10 years ago) draeath on space engineers subreddit "I found a listing of light energies for various types of lights, intended for setting up lighting in CG scenes. I converted the data over to RGB, and I've found the results to be handy for configuring realistic-looking lights in the DX11 renderer. I recommend you set the intensity of lights (spot and interior) to 1.0, and falloff to 2.0 (interior, maybe spot) - then playing with the radius and adjusting intensity as desired. I recommend you leave falloff at 2.0, and only adjust it if the other settings can't get you what you want... as this is quadratic falloff which is what light actually does, and given that DX11 is doing PBR, it seems to work quite well. That said, when the HDR thing starts changing the dynamic range on you, the edge does begin to look sharp. Anyway... here's the list! name, R 0-255, G 0-255, B 0-255 Candle 255, 147, 41 40W Tungsten 255, 197, 143 100W Tungsten 255, 214, 170 Halogen 255, 241, 224 Carbon Arc 255, 250, 244 High Noon Sun 255, 255, 251 Direct Sunlight 255, 255, 255 Overcast Sky 201, 226, 255 Clear Blue Sky 64, 156, 255 Warm Fluorescent 255, 244, 229 Standard Fluorescent 244, 255, 250 Cool White Fluorescent 212, 235, 255 Full Spectrum Fluorescent 255, 244, 242 Grow Light Fluorescent 255, 239, 247 Black Light Fluorescent 167, 0, 255 Mercury Vapor 216, 247, 255 Sodium Vapor 255, 209, 178 Metal Halide 242, 252, 255 High Pressure Sodium 255, 183, 76 "

Here's an idea to help the ambience of the refinery room, Skye: Add two or three _orange_ lights and two or three _yellow_ lights as well, and space them out a bit so that it looks like the room is lit up by both molten ore _and_ fire. If you can somehow set the orange and yellow lights to flicker occasionally (or even just a slow repeating pulse from dim to bright and back), that would make it feel even _MORE_ like a proper refinery/forge.

a small trick for digging straight holes... You can make your mining ship auto level by setting a gyro to override at about 95%, this gyro will then try to level out the ship constantly. You can still tilt with the other normal gyros however as they will overpower the 95% one :)

At the risk of mentioning something utterly obvious, if you want better illumination range, reducing falloff is an option. It affects how quickly the light becomes weaker at a distance.

One of the things you should take into account is dedicating an ore to each refinery. Some ores take longer to process than others. So if you have all the refineries processing long running ores, it can prevent say processing iron to make steel for building.

Yes, there's a lot that can be done in this game (gotta love sandbox games), but there's also quite a bit you can't do, and have to figure out creative ways around them. Not being able to build on one side of half-blocks is a good example. The upcoming 'Unified Grid System' Keen has been teasing for the "New Game" may help do away with issues like that. More wind turbines (many more) and more batteries to store & augment that power will be needed when you are ready to fire up the Refinery Sector to 100%.

One way you can help the tilting with your ship is adding another gyroscope with an override in it and don't mess with any settings after that. Or you can add a programmable block and install a Auto leveling script. Most of them are like a blueprint and projectors, subscribe, copy paste. Click compile, then it should be running.

ahhh he does read comments .... now he understands why he got that suggestion ... the central core can now house hangars and a ship printer and even an elevator for wheeled vehicles to get out on the very top or out under the front porch .... and yes you could just make the wheeled vehicle miner a chassis and park the ship on it by connector .... add extra storage to the chassis and a quick connect to dump the mined stuff .... make a second ship like the miner but add welders to it .... then it can also use the wheels or fly in the base and weld walls floors and ceilings faster ... even up and down shafts speaking of "like a christmas tree" you know you can change the lights colour too .... yes small interior lights set in classic christmas colours ;) and dont forget to add a bumper sticker to the miner ... Merry Christmas HO Ho HO ... then you get the seasonal greeting in and call the rest by other means ;) and there aint nothing like a tight fitting hole to go deep into .... er um ... now dig towards the front and make the whole side the maker and refinery zone and hook everything up to the conveyors in the tunnel ... for some further insights look for and watch Light Echoes .... Zebra Monkey's is a Splitsie Capac channel that made it way back when ... and Splitsie is one of the better SE showcase people to watch .... keep in mind light echoes didnt have half of what we do today ....
