Tbh it seems like that isn’t actually how he reacted? Ofc idk if you saw the movie & he did, but from the way this movie is cut down we know he ran out of the apartment with enough speed to ignore his wife who he seems to deeply love, he then stands down on the street, and then the woman neighbor says “run” which we hear over the sounds of screaming and snarling, so I presume she had seen something & shortly after he saw something bc we just barely catch him saying “biting people” as he re-enters the apartment & the voice over says like… “once he finished speaking…” So it wasn’t that he didn’t feel like it was his problem- he ran out, I presume, intending to help somehow, but then realized that whatever tf was goin on was WAAAAY outside his skill set

It depends. Having read a couple of survivalist books this is my opinion. Prepping for a short term disaster where there is an outside force that can rescue you is smart. I have had my power go out for 2 weeks each twice in my life. Prepping in case that happens again is smart. There is no good reason for anybody to have died in Texas during that winter where Ted Cruz abandoned his people. There was going to be a rescue so they should have been able to survive until then. OTOH prepping for all out nuclear war is not something I decided to do. From the books I realized you can live your life prepping for all out doom which means you have to disengage with the current world OR you can live your life. You can't do both. I don't think dragging out your survival for about a year if the earth is nuked is worth it. In that scenario there is nobody to rescue you. You are also going to have to die out unless you are OK with impregnating your own children or siblings. Dying of radiation poisoning is awful. I'd say if that is the scenario I'd rather it be over quick. So to some up, have stuff to survive power outages, hurricanes disrupting things, blizzards disrupting things, other weather phenomenon, stuff that is temporary.

WHY people in thriller and doomsday movies has NO COMMON SENSE?. Any of us here would have done completely the opposite as they did. If they stayed with the food alone they got, and not opening to anyone ever the door, they would have food when the rescue team came later, and all the area would be recovered from zombies by those military units.
