Pretty sure it's the combination of him wearing a black sweater and background being black that creates the illusion of a floating hand. This can easily be seen on the picking hand since the guitar's body is covered aswell.

I am not gonna lie the notation for the bar chords and fingers you are supposed to use reminds me of when I played piano. (I didn't play a lot) It is a super helpful little detail that you added to the sheet music which is kinda cool cuz this is definitely made to be user friendly.
