I don't care what it means for fuel efficiency, but that wing which curves up at the tips when the plane is moving, is plain graceful - like the 787 but unlike any other airliner.

Those 'zig-zags' on the engine nacelles are called chevron nozzles, and they're designed to reduce the noise of the engines.

Nothing wrong here. It's a pilot's way of saying goodbye because this was the 1st plane to be delivered. They also do that kind of wing spanning during air shows

u wont believe that. the corkpit is set to be on the second floor has made it look sexy and cool when comparing with the a380 which looks very dumb when its corkpit is set to be on the lower floor. it is this cool look that i always love 747 more than anything else.

I dont know where you get your information. BA does not OWN a 747-8. They LEASE one (currently) and they use it for CARGO only. As for the A380, they have ordered 3, but have pushed their delivery dates back and it is rumored that they may sell their options (due to financial issues).

Just a thought so no hate, but what would you think the 747 would look bad if it was a full double decker? I think it wouldn't be terrible a look. The nose of the plane is distinctive enough I think. The A380 nose is (to me) what makes it seem not as appealing. Just a thought. Let me know :)

Good point, but the A380 needs many years to prove its self to even reach the safety record that the 747 has had, I meen only five years into its service the A380 has had many issues and most recently the wing brakets inside the wings are cracking? So you can't put a lot of trust on modern airliners and besides the 748 is a modern airliner the only thing that looks the same is just the shell of the aircraft, other then that it has new wings engines cockpit instruments etc.

It´s a great and beautiful aircraft!..... By the way, pay attention at 3.22sec.....something wrong had happened cause there´s some smoke coming out from the rear right of the aircraft!!!... Probably a bird strike or a hydraulic pipe failure!???!!!...... GREAT GREAT B747-8

BA cannot afford the A380, so dont worry. They have pension and union issues. You will see Speedbird 744's for some time to come...I see the 777's becoming the mainstay of BA's fleet (much like it is for American Airlines - who also has problems similar to BA). This is a beauty though - nice salute and high rate of climb on the way out!
