The couple I used to babysit for were a Lawyer and a Teacher. When they left me with their daughter, they said I could play music. But to keep it low. I was about 14 in the early 1960s. They had this and it made me want to study tap to do a recital off of this.....truly. It was so upbeat and nice and most Baby Boomers love Big Bands!

Coming home from school in the late '40's, we would turn on a local radio program (WMUR - 610) and listen to a pop music program which opened with Tommy Dorsey's "Opus No. 1", and close out with Charlie Barnett's "Skyliner". Loved the music of those days - Played a lot of it in later years in college bands and an American Legion post band.

My theory is Big Band/Swing/Jazz/Soul/etc.. will come back an maybe a few years. Artists have already been playing around with it, in fact, we have a new less popular genre of music called 'electro swing' which incorporates electric synth/dubstep/drumstep into swing. I personally do not care for electro swing, because it takes the vibe out of it. I really hope big band jazz comes back.

Miles the fool I actually do enjoy electro swing. While it does, unfortunately, take a bit of the old jazz energy out of it, the extra electro energy combined with that swing makes it just as good

Electro swing is the prime example of what too much technology does. Takes out all the soul of swing. Drumming is usually electric and very poorly controlled in volume. It's either overpowering with terribly simple beats. Or loud obnoxious beats with no sense of rhythm as if the artist just saw some buttons and facerolled over all of them. Also most of the genre is controlled by fuckin greasy ass weebs I dont know why.

As much as I would love big band swing to return let's be honest it won't - our only chance so far to make it REALLY popular is electro swing - listen to the remix of "the little old man on the stairs" it's actually brilliant - when done right electro swing sounds brilliant

BRING BACK the big bands in 2021!!! What happene to this wonderful sound, I grew up hearing this as my late parents LOVED dancing, swing and big bands. SKYLINER was such a great tune of the times!! We used to listen to the late great Alan Dell who had a Sunday Dance Band show on 'the wireless' (no thats not something on your phone kids) Wireless in our day was THE RADIO or radiogram as my nan used to have!

This is one of Charlie Barnet's versions of his song. Jack Gleason had an LP out in the late 50s. It was a combination of Nelson Riddle and Billy May orchestras. One track was "Skyliner." I think it's buried somewhere here on KZbin.

They say that Benny and his orchestra created bebop, which ushered in Swing. Peggy Lee is smoking hot. She was a teenager here, and a bit afraid to sing a whole song, so Benny let her do what she did best, then step aside while the orchestra and Benny took over.

People keep saying that someone should bring back this quality of music.........BUT THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THE CRAP THAT'S OUT THERE NOW. 'Rock'? Rock-n-Roll died decades ago. Rap-crap? That was dead on arrival. Country-Western? Rhinestones and drugs did that in. **BUT THAT VILE STUFF IS STILL AROUND AND THE QUALITY MUSIC WE LONG FOR IS ALL BUT FORGOTTEN. Figure that out.
