Doc Severinsen and Maynard Fergeson are both in the trumpet section and were life-long friends even after leaving Charlie's orchestra.. Doc was only 10 months older than Maynard and has many fond memories of their time together. Doc told me that Maynard was one of the finest human beings he had ever met who never said an unkind word about anyone. God rest his soul and Long Live Doc!

You have to give a lot of credit to Charlie Barnet for his innovative way of presenting a song; a very nice legacy for future generations to enjoy. Roger Plafkin--Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan

This is a terrific version of "Skyliner; Charlie did himself proud to say the least; regardless of his background; he had a significant influence on the music world; if only we could bring him and his musical organization back today, our lives would be much happier. Drumming on a Cunard Cruise Liner in 1964 I had the pleasure of accompanying Charlie Barnett . He was on the cruise with his wife and mother in law and borrowed our band leaders sax when we gave an impromtue concert for the crew. A real gent !

Back around 1977, I worked as a teenager on a big band radio show in Atlantic City. We broadcasted from the famous Steel Pier. When I visited my mom in San Diego, I knew Charlie Barnett lived there and actually found his name in the phone book. I still remember he lived on Anchorage Drive there. I called him up and he answered! I remember stupidly saying in my nervousness, "Is this Charlie Barnett the saxophone player?". Anyway, he was very nice and consented to a phone interview with Dick, the host of the radio show. I think it really pleased him that he had a 15-year-old fan contacting him. Funny thing is, I never got to hear the interview as I was still out of town.

"I think this is an earlier version of the group before Doc and Maynard joined them." This is from about 1950, after they had joined.

@PhilGorman1957 YOU KNOW DOC OR AT LEAST HAVE TALKED TO HIM?! I'm so jealous! Trumpet is MY instrument and Doc and Maynard are my two Favorite trumpeters. I've seen Maynard live twice and enjoyed anytime the Tonight Show would feature Doc and the band or any other TV appearance in which I could catch either one of them. I've had at least 1 album from each of those guts in my life (I realize that sounds pathetic) and currently have 3 MF albums burned to CD. Indeed: RIP Maynard and long live Doc!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO FIND 'CHARLIE BARNET PRESENTS A TRIBUTE TO HARRY JAMES'? *Pardon me for shouting, but I've tried for years to find an online recording of his version of 'You Made Me Love You'. I think Chris Griffin played the trumpet solo. Chris wasn't Harry James, but he did a fine job.

I believe the trumpet with the widows peak hairline and mustache is Zimmerman "Buck" Walker, my childhood neighbor, who later in life became a program manager on the Apollo program at North American Autonetics. He was an unassuming, yet amazingly talented man!

I forget why I said that but it was probably because I couldn't recognize either of them in the trumpet section. However, that trumpet solo DOES seem to be Doc, doesn't it? I still can't spot Maynard, though.
