I love your videos Steve. Keep em coming! I can't hit water falling out of a boat with a bow but I like archery. Even if it doesn't like me! Lol

Bohning Smooth Release nocks are my choice. They have a throat that is 0.005" wider and short "ears" and release from the string really nicely. They have a much tighter and more secure fit onto Easton pins than the Easton nock. Also they can cost just one third the price of the Easton nock.

I totally agree, Bohning smooth release all the way.

I got some Skylon nocks early this year to try out. I get the feeling when I put them on the pins that they can be slightly differing in their fit, while my beiter nocks are all the same. I prefer the look and feel of the beiter nocks, but I haven't noticed that one would crack easier or that I would shoot better with it. Where I live the Beiter nocks are 5-6 times the price of the Skylons so it's a very big difference.

these could be used as an alternative for tunning to the Beiter Overnock (use to weaken shafts)

So I just switched between Easton and Skylon. For barebow archery and stringwalking, I found a slight (less than 5 points average over a week) difference in favor of the Easton nock. That could just be me having a hot week, but the Easton nock feels better on the string. It has a more positive click, although it's not any tighter once nocked. The "ears" are less sharp and so I don't worry about digging into my face as much when anchoring or at a weird crawl. They're also more durable. The Skylons would frequently get micro-cracks that would be difficult to notice. I haven't seen that with the Easton nocks. There's about a 1mm difference in the nock groove depth.

After getting some of the newer Bohning Smooth release nocks, I think they may be the best compromise of price and effectiveness. I don't entirely trust the skylon nocks especially when they arent a flo colour for spotting cracks. I'd love to shoot beiters 24/7 but when you break a couple or so per day on the range, it's a decent amount to fork out.

Skylon do have flo color nocks as well. I have green and blue skylon nocks. To me it feels more like a regular translucent green and blue rather than "real" flo though.

Please do comparison between Easton Pin Nock vs Easton G Pin Nock; the former has relatively shorter ears so interested to know how that can impact the archer as far as accuracy and forgiveness go.

Ive got gold tip nocks in Yellow fl and Orange fl , the yellow all cracked , I swapped to Bohning have be very happy and only nailing them has caused damage and got a 100 pack ( 0.70cents a nock is good value bulk) , I might get a pack of these sklons next order and give them a flogging , see how they go.

I use Easton pin nocks on my recurve arrows and Skylon's on my compound arrows. Both on Skylon arrows, Paragon for recurve and Performa for compound with the same Skylon pin. I've also used Skylon nocks on some older Radius arrows for recurve but switched to Easton for them too as I couldn't buy any replacement Skylon nocks at the time and I wanted a different colour to my daughters Radius arrows that had the same nocks. I bought Skylon nocks for my Performa's because they were cheap and came in a 25 pack which is a nice number and they seemed fine on my old RADIUS arrows. However I've found I've had to replace a few of the Skylon nocks on my compound arrows as they aren't on the arrow when I go to pull them from the target. Looking at the pins I don't see any damage from a arrow strike knocking it off and I haven't found any of those nocks either, so it looks they came off mid flight or just after the shot. When I've had a arrow strike on my Easton's I can see the damage and normally the nock is still on & I've had to change the pin a couple of times too due to bad damage. The Eastons always seem to have the same fit onto the pins where with the Skylon sometimes they go on a little too easily and others they are very tight. I had one go on so tight that when I went to twist it a little to align it properly, I had to use so much force that the pin twisted with it and had to be re-glued. So for me it seems that the Easton's are typically closer tolerance wise than the Skylon nocks. I prefer the Eastons but I don't prefer the considerable extra cost of them so will keep using the Skylons on my compound arrows for now. I'm more serious with my recurve than compound anyway. If I start getting serious with compound I'll probably move to Easton nocks though.

@mplovecraft 3 жыл бұрын
I also found that the tolerances on the Skylon nocks were not amazing. My Beiter nocks are way better in that regard, but at a very steep premium. I found all the Skylon shafts that I've tried to be excellent, but I did not really care for their pins or points where I've opted for the Easton ones instead.

I don't think that overall nocks make a ton of difference whether it's a pro / Olympic level archer. I think it's more psychological, familiarity and comfort than the practical application.

I shoot the the knocks that are on Easton arrows. I shoot full metal jackets 5mm 340 spine.460 grains. And I shoot axis 340 spine 5mm 450 grains that is what my sight tape is set to. And I think they are good knocks

hey I'm hoping someone here can help me out.. I bought a used hoyt bow from ebay its a hoyt ultra mag.. on the yoke where it meets the bus cable there is nothing between them. its string to string and that makes a severe bend on the string... I recently retired and got back into archery ...over the years I've done a lot of rigging heavy objects.. I made over 33 200ton lifts..and this just screams at me..when you bend a cable at that angle you lose at least 70% of its rated load.. I found a similar bow on youtube and it didnt have any type of softener either..I have 4 other bows some with one some with 2 yokes and everything has object such as the yoke passes through the object>>(whatever its called.. I ve looked everywhere i can think to find something that would work) my question is.. is this how this bow came and do people actually shoot one made like that?..
@benjaminwatters2036
@benjaminwatters2036 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's called a floating yoke and I seem to remember it being popular 10 years ago or so. Modern bow strings are way over rated for the load so I wouldn't worry too much

Yes, floating yoke was common on those years ago. It was thought the cam lean would change less through the shot as the cable loads. I've made dozens of sets and never heard of a break. You can always have a standard yoke made when your ready to replace.
