Just som additional. Beiter Nocks size 1(0.086), 2(0.098) and 3 (.0106) The clear Beiter nocks cracks more often then the solid colors. But the best part with the clear ones is that you can see it, and replace it. When it comes to compound and you have a conventional D-loop then you can shoot with regular symmetric nocks. If you using a "torque less" loop or a loop with just one tied nocking point and the loop makes pressure on the nock, you should use asymmetric nocks.

The 'parts tree' you mentioned is called a sprue. When the nocks are molded, they're molded onto a sprue. And any self respecting modeler uses nippers to cut the parts off. No bending or twisting, to avoid breakage or twisting. I imagine the knocks are done the same way for the same reasons.

Very interesting Jake. I'm using Beiter asymmetric pin nocks for barebow which makes a lot of sense to me when string walking as the I believe the best way to hold the string is with as little disturbance to the "triangle" as possible, especially in the bigger crawls. Also the Beiter has a groove in the top to accommodate the nock which IMO causes less pinching. What is your experience in your BB journey?

I had taken that factor into account in selecting arrows, but without any empirical knowledge as to the effect. I would assume it would be less than a full spine?

Jake... about Beiter Nocks..you can be sure that all out of any single bag you have are out of the same cavity as there is only one.... next bag you buy these all will be out of the same cavity... and Beiter produces by far less nocks than any us or chinese brand... so same bag ...same cavity:)

Hey Andreas! Thanks for chiming in! How often do you at Beiter change the actual mold or make repairs to it? I know your volume is way less but would I be wrong in the mold changing over time slightly? And therefor potentially changing the nock impact compared to a possibly older set of nocks? All things I am genuinely curious about.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery depending in the model. The pinH already 2 Times. Pin2 is still the first... but at least all weithin a charge actually within a lifetime of the mould ARE THE SAME :)

Great video! Question for you... In my NTS coaching training the folks all the way up to Coach Lee have consistently advised finger pressure as 20% top, 70% middle, and 10% lower. 1) Have you heard or been taught differently? 2) If the numbers above are accurate, then wouldn't that result in a string angle more consistent with the Beiter asymmetrical nock?

Hi Jake, great info on this topic. I have had a good look at my Easton pin nocks and noticed a line in the moulding on the side of the ears. Is this for orientating the nock to the fletching?

Beiter out-nock is the best. That is final. Most of Korea use it too. It has the best clearance with its proprietary design.

Debatable. By that logic, 70" bow, 6" extension, 10" side rods, 30" long rod, all weight forward, x10, 120 grain tungsten and Beiter plungers would be all "Final" How many medals out there get won without those configurations? Plenty.

Used what I learned to buy Easton pin nocks in package and have noted which cavity it came from in my archery journal. Before I considered buying nocks from Amazon that were of good quality but were from someone who bought in bulk and then split them up. How do I know which cavity they came from and if they all came from the same cavity, or if they are a mix. Good lesson.

So at the end you recommended the 1370119 19L nocks to be the best in your opinion but then, does it not have bigger ears which would cause problems as you mentioned earlier in the video. what if you use the beiter asymmetrical nock upside down? since there is more pressure on the index finger, the string would be leaning back, and the upside-down groove shape should then help?

Yes, I am picking at nits. "Adding weight to the back of an arrow stiffens it." I think it will make the arrow perform more like a stiffer arrow, but if you put the arrow on a stiffness gauge it will be the same number. Yes? No?

Yes, it will measure same stiffness on a spine tester, but according to Jake, the arrow will act stiffer when it is shot.

Thanks Jake! Looks to me when doing the side by side comparison of the Beiter Pin Nock and the Beiter Out Nock that if you moved the X-10 with the pin nock so both shafts were even, the extra length of the 'fitting' of the pin that is against back of shaft would just about make up the 'extra' length of the Out Nock. So it is more of a weight benefit than being much longer. Seems too bad Easton just doesn't make an X-10 slightly longer in the back half. Assuming that would be superior to just increasing the weight of tip or length of shaft. Was surprised that your top indoor nock was one that fit into uni-bushing and not a pin nock. Seems larger diameter arrows at closer distances increases risk of damage. Not sure it would offer same protection as a metal pin, but wouldn't a carbon pin be much lighter, is there such a thing?

In my personal experience a bushing works just as well as a pin in protecting the arrow. Arrows either get stuck in the nock or glance of the cone of the bushing, I can't recall damaging a single arrow with a bushing.

As someone who has been shooting a bow for 40 yrs, this video has been incredibly educational. One question, doesn't the angle of the string at full draw suggest that the Beiter Asymmetrical nocks are better for shooting an Olympic recurve?

With modern hooking techniques I don't think so... however to each their own, but I can tell you because of my need for a higher then normal nocking point as it is, I do shoot as well with their nocks compared to symmetrical nocks.

Question regarding the different cavities. I knew you're sceptical regarding Beiter having one single mold and the frequency of replacing that but is that any different to the other manufacturers that have multiple. Surely those get replaced too?

Of course, but with 8 cavities they would also wear out 8 times as slower. However When I come into a major event I replace all my nocks on all my arrows incase some are worn out, or from old batches. After shooting them for a month or two, you break one and replace only one on an arrow, you may not have that new nock group with the old nocks. Most top shooters replace their nocks before major events to prevent this and save the old ones for practice arrows.

Not sure what you refer to when saying nocks are diff from each batch. I can understand the possible diff between the outer fit nocks as there is a lot of plastic.On my pin nocks which at present I use a very cheap ones compared to Beiter, but they are exactly the same weight within 1/10th grain ,the fit I check on all nocks and they havn't varied. They are not from one batch.So are you referring to the larger nocks?

I noticed during the world championships that almost all recurve archers are shooting the over nocks. Maybe they give a slight performance edge and are easier to see down range but they look so un-aerodynamic and clumsy.!

...about asymmetrical nocks... any style of shooting with "split fingers" (called a Mediterranean Grip) - even Coaches Lee ! - will be asymmetric in release as the middle finger will always be the last leaving the string... cause it is the longest. .therefor in release the string will fit asymmetrically...😏

I agree 100%. I know Beiters are VERY popular for a reason and have won more medals then I can count. I only stopped using them when I starting having an extremely high static nocking point after using the stabilizer set-ups I was in the 2012-2013 timeframe. Still a great product!

The Beiter Hunter pin nock is symmetrical. I shoot them with my compound bow with a d-loop and release aid. They are super high quality.

I can't get pins to tune at all. The bareshaft with pins always comes out super stiff. Tried spines 900 through 500 (shooting 37# oly recurve). Every arrow with a pin nock was incredibly stiff, f nocks gave results you'd expect (i.e. weak to stiff as I worked through spines). Any help?

I really wish the Manufacturers would mark on the Packages what types of bows/Strings, speed, and poundages these nocks are best for. Not everyone is an expert in all of this. So someone shooting a Hunting Compound Bow has different nocks than someone shooting an Olympic RECURVE Bow. Or like you were showing the Asymmetrical vs Non-Asymmetrical.

I totally did not get the whole cavity thing.... I guess a language barrier on my side. Do you have a resource that explains this with pictures for dummies ? I still don't see how that should make a difference unless the material does not cool symmetrically thus producing different stress reactions/flex based on pressure point ....

They were the first iteration of pin nocks from Beiter IIRC but only could be used on micro diameter arrows (mostly just X10) so they did the pin only nock to fit the other arrows. Mostly just for protection of the arrow I suppose but I preferred the regular pin nock when I shot the beiters.

Jake Kaminski Thanks. I was planning to macgyver some .244 pins to the super uni bushings, but I think I’ll go with those 19s instead. With Easton’s 3D and Super nocks, I have a problem of the plate of the tab clicking the nock out of the string when fingering. The wings of the 19 looks to be a tad shorter than in those Easton nocks. Haven’t decided yet though if I should choose those asymmetricals (Insert-Nock) or symmetricals (Hunter-Nock).

Small individual gains add up to a big advantage. Over-coming small changes that make a difference are much easier to tackle then the largest ones. Once you gain confidence in the small gains it often gives you the boost needed to overcome the largest and sometimes seemingly insurmountable obstabsals in your way.
