Difference is that he declared all his gifts whereas some of the Tories didn't. Totally agree with Harriet's comments.

The distinction lies in the fact that he disclosed all of his gifts, while some members of the Tory party did not. I fully concur with Harriet's observations. It is understandable why some individuals may be reluctant to engage/stand for election in local democracy, where the same bullying/intimidation takes place. With all what's going on in the world I despair!

Starmer was the MP that got the most donations in that list since MPs that are ministers report their donations somewhere else. The point of reporting the donations is to see if they are genuine donations or if they are bribes. Lets say someone makes a donation and then is made a lord by the leader of the party that receives the donation. Im sure that would be on the news for months on end... And naughty naughty sky inviting keir starmer for their summer party every year - I was surprised that part of the interview wasnt in the opener... Or was I?

News organisations have always tried to establish such links through social gatherings. But the cosy relationship between the UK media and the political class is of concern. As for the freebies, it was inevitable that people were going to see this as both greedy and hypocritical, so Labour MPs are right to be angry with the leadership for letting this mess evolve and so sour the start of Labour's 5 year term.

@@GeoffV-k1h Why hypocritical? Because they complained when the conservatives did not follow the rules? That is the difference - these donations were declared following the rules. The conservatives broke the rules. Hypocrisy is berating Labour for following the rules while being quiet when the conservatives broke the rules. Two tier journalism.

@@gaiahunter3863 I agree about the 2 tier journalism, but people were sick of the idea of Tories appearing to have their snouts in the trough. The fact is the public is not OK with the idea of politicians getting loads of free stuff from very rich people who may expect something back. Whether these goodies have been declared or not. Hence Labour's problem.

@@GeoffV-k1h Then the push should be to stop all political donations. Again, the Tories were not only breaking the rules, they were in fact giving contracts and peerages to party donors, for example. Labour is being attacked by operating under the same rules that all other parties operate and have been operating for decades.

MPs get paid a handsome wack and have a much more generous expense account than almost anyone. Most people are not allowed to accept freebies/bribes so MPs should not be allowed to accept anything .bribes expect a repayment
