Overnight Arabs changed from Arabs to Jordanians and Yasser Arafat and the PLO in 1964 told them they were now Palestinians. Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”) “The Israeli government gave me a budget,” the retired brigadier general confessed, “and the military government gives to the mosques.” “Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote. Sadly, the peacekeeping force seems to have no control over what Hezbollah chooses to do in Lebanon. It has to be Hezbollah, or their supporters who killed this soldier. It was a mob. What kind of mistake? Who else lives there and who could they possibly have thought were in those vehicles. Hezbollah does not want the UN there. The Irishman was a brave young soldier.

And still it goes on,, not to mention the Congo in the 60s. So many countries representing the un peacekeepers. Yet the waring factions are still plodding on regardless. Ongoing conflicts are a boon for the armerments industries.

I feel terrible sorry for the Irish peacekeepers. They have an impossible job with Hezbollah constantly shooting rockets over their heads. To complicate matters further, the Irish government are renowned Hamas sympathisers which further complicates the ability of the Irish troops to act as peacekeepers.

No need to worry then. The Irish will keep the peace! How are they doing in Ukraine? Sudan? Yemen? Syria? Ruwanda?
