Fact-checking ecosystem has led to ‘censorship over important discussions’ in countless cases

In countless cases over the last few years, the fact-checking ecosystem has labelled contested facts as being false - leading to censorship over important discussions, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.
This comes as draft legislation from the Albanese government would grant the Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) the power to issue fines to social media companies that fail to adequately crack down on misinformation.
“The left clearly has a stronger grip on institutions and the danger with fact checkers turning their gaze to opinions is that one side of politics will have a strangle hold on acceptable discourse,” Mr Houghton said.
“Eventually, no contrary opinion will be safe, no matter who you are.”

There are 33 comments posted yet I only see 7, censorship is blatantly obvious and needs to be stopped. Bring back the dislike counter so we can shame the idiots ourselves.

ACMA's ability to prosecute Tech giants would probably be extremely limited as it would likely lack the authority and jurisdiction. They could try banning their operations in Australia. This would however cause a severe backlash from users which would be extremely harmful for the government.
