'Guess what? I don't trust you': Paul Murray calls Chris Bowen’s bluff on EV savings

Sky News host Paul Murray says he doesn’t trust Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s promise that purchasing an electric car will save Australians money, as a potential SUV and ute tax looms.
The Australian Government is set to introduce a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard for cleaner and cheaper-to-run cars, as well as holding a vote in Sydney and Melbourne on whether to tax SUV and ute drivers.
“Guess what Chris? I don’t trust you,” Mr Murray said.
“I don’t trust the people working for you.
“I don’t trust your bosses.
“Because you have an option right in front of you today to be able to show that you are willing to save people money.
“But what you are trying to do is change the cars that we drive, because it makes you feel better, it makes the lobby groups that demand it feel better.”

@davidhodder4479NO! Have a look at yourself in the mirror, and work out that like everyone else in the world, you are pushing your own agenda whilst totally ignoring the really basic things like people (women) who have worked all their bloody lives, borne children, not had consistent “careers” but the ‘shitty’ jobs in between children that they could find, even if they paid under the minimum wage. Why don’t you go and buy yourself a pair of satin boxer shorts with a nuclear warning printed on them, and shut up!

I was on vacation in Australia and New Zealand last month and talked to a bunch of people who liked my Los Angeles accent! There are many parralels between LA and Sydney, not least of which is the Leftist political agenda on full display. The ideas sound good but always prove out to be lousy in practice. Free housing, high minimum wage, more bicycle lanes in high-traffic zones, etc. The greens and lefties are deep both here and there but real people have begun to see for themselves how those ideas are harming the city, state, and country we are all so proud of.

There is a market for EV's. However there are a lot of tasks they cannot. EV buses and trucks don't work, EV's cannot tow, they cannot go off-road, they cannot be used in remote areas, they cannot be used in hot or cold climates. As far as cost's, car rental companies cannot afford to run them, case closed. The only thing the government can do is continually increase the cost of ICE vehicles. But that's the point of "Net Zero", it's not to save the planet, it's a excuse to raise taxes, over and over again.

1:10 I knew it! I made a prediction some time ago that they would talk about cars over a certain age that you could no longer renew your registration. As this is at state government level it would require every state to do this. I smell another mandate coming on. Look at a certain event that happened a couple of years ago. Every state fell into line with it. Did you think that one state would hold out and say no to a mandate? This will be no different. Once one state does it then another state will do it and then another one until they all cave in. I'm still driving my 1998 VT Commodore. I bought it in 2000 and it's still running and suits me fine.

It's fascinating how no one acknowledges that in Europe UK and the US there is NO market for second hand Electric vehicles and motor dealers will not trade them due to the lack of long term viability of battery life, the cost of replacement and the complete lack of availability. This cost, let alone time is 40% of the vehicle..... how are the owners of current electric vehicles going to absorb this cost.... I would suggest it will be a major financial hardship that will take years to overcome and I doubt will ever have them make the mistake again.... factor in this situation when you cannot get rid of the old electric car and the $50k "asset" is sitting with no value in the drive as a boat anchor and the running cost of these vehicles becomes frightening.....

The big joke here is when you have many Billions being collected in fuel tax while they are pushing hard for 100% EV's then they will have to eventually tax EV's to recover the declining fuel tax. Its the old bait and switch, save money!... now but you will pay for it latter. By the way just look at how much per kWh people are paying at charging stations as it isn't likely you can save money with EV's unless you have off street parking and can charge at home off an EV power tariff. Also better get 3 phase installed and at least 2 charges because most house holds have more than 1 car.

What am I supposed to do , if bowen brings all this EV , BS into being . I am unable to even get a $2,000 credit card , let alone get a $30,000 car loan . There will be NO second hand vehicle market , so you would have to buy a brand new vehicle . I live in remote Australia , NO public transport , No nothing and because of road conditions you do require a 4x4 . EV's may work in the cities and close proximity , leave us country people alone . The entire thing should be voluntary . NOT left up to a narcissist like bowen , a figment of his own power . Great job Paul, as Pauline would say ." keep the bastards honest "

Along with saving whatever it turns out to be in fuel. When the LNP proposed exactly the same thing a few years ago (but didn't go through with it) they also said exactly what Labor is saying now. Bowen's sales pitch on behalf of Chinese EVs shows that he does not care about the motoring needs of country drivers. All his data is about money saving EVs is in cities where the average speeds are under 50kmh and much time is spent sitting idle. Flat tyres are a tiny screw hole, a destination after a flat tyre a short drive away at urban speeds, a new tyre something that can bought at any time. EVs in the bush are being stranded for hours with a blown tyre and no spare, a new tyre days away, of range anxiety because it is not that recharge stations are far apart, whole towns are. Rural driving can slash up to 25% off how far an EV can go between recharges because 100kmh+ speeds are not what EVs were designed for. It results in high discharge rates that are just as battery life shortening as high recharge rates.

There is a contradiction here in political strategy. The Coalition is targetting outer suburban electorates. These are the very electorates that will lead the way in EV take up, because of the long commute distances, the price of petrol, and the fact that the homes in these electorates have power points where their cars are parked. And many of them have solar panels. Yet the anti EV campaigns of the Coalition and of Sky News are in direct conflict with this trend. Have they thought this through?

@@savagegfry All part of the successful Globalist Plan, the United Nations Climate Change “scam” Darling "Chris Bowen" wakes up to a perfect world, "Save the Planet, ban all petroleum products" Poor Chris Bowen. Life without petroleum and petroleum-based products. One crisp winter morning in Australia the UNs darling named Chris Bowen woke up to a perfect world, one where no petroleum products were ruining the earth. He tossed aside his cotton sheet and wool blanket and stepped out onto a dirt floor covered with willow bark that had been pulverized with rocks. “What’s this?” he asked. “Pulverized willow bark,” replied her fairy godmother. “What happened to the carpet?” Chris asked. “The carpet was nylon, which is made from butadiene and hydrogen cyanide, both made from petroleum,” came the response. Chris Bowen smiled, acknowledging that adjustments are necessary to save the planet, and moved to the sink to brush his teeth where instead of a toothbrush, he found a willow, mangled on one end to expose wood fibre bristles. “Your old toothbrush?” noted his godmother, “Also nylon.” “Where’s the water?” asked Chris Bowen “Down the road in the canal,” replied his godmother, just make sure you avoid water with cholera in it.” “Why’s there no running water?” Chris Bowen asked, becoming a little peevish. “Well,” said her godmother, who happened to teach engineering at MIT, “Where do we begin?” There followed a long monologue about how sink valves need elastomer seats and how copper pipes contain copper, which has to be mined and how it’s impossible to make all-electric earth-moving equipment with no gear lubrication or tires and how ore has to be smelted to a make metal, and that’s tough to do with only electricity as a source of heat, and even if you use only electricity, the wires need insulation, which is petroleum-based, and though most of Australias energy is produced in an environmentally friendly way because of hydro and nuclear, if you do a mass and energy balance around the whole system, you still need lots of petroleum products like lubricants and nylon and rubber for tires and asphalt for filling potholes and wax and iPhone plastic and elastic to hold your underwear up while operating a copper smelting furnace and . . . “What’s for breakfast?” interjected Chris Bowen, whose head was hurting. "Fresh, range-fed chicken eggs,” replied his godmother. “Raw.” “How so, raw?” inquired Chris Bowen. “Well, . . .” Once again, Chris Bowen was told about the need for petroleum products like transformer oil and scores of petroleum products essential for producing metals for frying pans and in the end was educated about how you can’t have a petroleum-free world and then cook eggs. Unless you rip your front fence up start a fire and carefully cook your egg in an orange peel like you do in Boy Scouts. Not that you can find oranges in Australia anymore. “But I want poached eggs like my Aunt Tilda makes,” lamented Chris Bowen. “Tilda died this morning,” the godmother explained. “Bacterial pneumonia.” “What!” interjected Chris Bowen “No one dies of bacterial pneumonia! We have penicillin.” “Not anymore,” explained godmother “The production of penicillin requires chemical extraction using isobutyl acetate, which, if you know your organic chemistry, is petroleum-based. Lots of people are dying, which is problematic because there’s not any easy way of disposing of the bodies since backhoes need hydraulic oil and crematoriums can’t really burn many bodies using as fuel Australian fences and furniture, which are rapidly disappearing - being used on the black market for roasting eggs and staying warm.” This represents only a fraction of Chris Bowen's day, a day without microphones to exclaim into a day without much food, and a day without carbon-fibre boats to sail in, but a day that will save the planet. Tune in tomorrow when Chris Bowen needs a root canal and learns how Novocain is synthesized.

If your daily drive is less than the batteries capacity, so you charge at home almost all the time like I do. It saves you a crap load. $5 per 400kms is what I pay in nsw to run my model y. I just put up with the extra time to charge on long trips as the rest of the time it works in my favour. Also no services to budget for.

If EV battery replaced eg for $16K every 8 years life cycle... That means just the new EV battery in car loses $40 value per week for 8 years ? Plus car depreciation on top. So an 8 year old 2nd hand EV needs a $16k + investment to keep it viable.. At current rates. Probably be $32 k by then..A new 12 volt car battery loses 40 cents per week in value over 8 years. Hope China will keep supplying the $32k units by then.

Combined with what is beginning to look like a passive-aggressive attempt to restrict movement - a key requirement in the global elite's totalitarian wet dream. If you cannot afford to operate a combustion car or an EV, then your only option is to walk or ride a bicycle - effectively limiting the frequency and distance you can travel. Restricting movement and transport can help a totalitarian government in several ways: 1) Control and Surveillance: By limiting the movement of individuals and controlling transportation systems, the government can monitor the activities of its citizens more effectively. This makes it easier to identify potential dissenters or opposition groups. 2) Suppression of Dissent: Restrictions on movement can prevent organized protests or gatherings. By making it difficult for people to travel to meet or demonstrate, governments can stifle opposition and maintain their grip on power. 3) Social Fragmentation: By controlling movement, the government can fragment communities and reduce social cohesion. When people are unable to interact freely, it weakens potential networks of resistance. 4) Increased Dependence on the State: By limiting personal movement, people can become more reliant on the state for transportation and resources, reinforcing the regime’s power and authority.
