Too little too late. Australia has lost too much civilian industrial capabilities. There is little existing manufacturing ability/infrastructure to redirect to war efforts when war occurs. All the below major manufacturing has disappeared (and much more): Car manufacturing (Holden, Ford, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi) Parts manufacturing Train manufacturing Ship manufacturing Oil refinery Textiles and Foot ware manufacturing Recently the only plastic manufacturing There is no tangible capability to repair and maintain let alone build to replace when there is a war. Projected to be in just a few years (4 to 5 years). Not to mention the road infrastructure is grid locked and over population with less open space with existing infrastructure for manufacturing. This is like it has been a set up. Australia is up the creek without a paddle.

If time is important (and it is), perhaps we should be taking a leaf out of Polands defence procurement book. Having Russia nearby is certainly a major motivator to upgrade your military. The polish military is achieving this by shopping around and purchasing off the shelf, but still high quality, platforms from the South Koreans amongst others. The South Koreans, as part of this contract, also allow Poland licences to build these platforms in Poland, satisfying the need for a domestic defence industry. All this at a price that undercuts the U.S. prices and support.

With inflation we have actually halved the amount of purchases. Everything has more than double in price over the last few years. If the want to keep the military funded better triple the spending.

Even with all that spending Australia wouldn't last a week in a war, how about cut defence spending, work on getting Australia out of debt, stop all immigration untill we have no to little unemployment, reduce crime, focus on local community and society back on track. But unfortunately, that's not going to happen. If you want to see Australia's future look at the EU, US, and UK, that's what's coming 🤬
