Seeing how they treated indigenous folks, I'd have to wholeheartedly disagree with you. Genocide, slavery, mass stealing of land, alongside other unspeakable horrors, I find it difficult to believe Europeans brought "civility and prosperity" to the land now known as Australia. The First Nations peoples have 70,000+ years of rich history and culture. They were doing quite well for themselves before the British came.
@befeleme
@befeleme 10 ай бұрын
@@bruhdudeguyman There was no genocide, slavery and "unspeakable horrors" etc. done to Australian Aborigines by British settlers. The Aborigines were quite apt at doing this to themselves. Their 70,000+ years of "rich history and culture" did not get them to progress beyond their stone-age level even to a point of inventing a written language, having any system of agriculture, or having a legal or moral system that would ban rape, sexual abuse of children, and incest. In contrast, the British settlers who came here only over two hundred years ago developed an almost uninhabitable land by establishing farms, roads, schools, hospitals, towns and cities, railways, ports and harbours, universities, health clinics, telecommunication networks, factories and industries, warm (or cool) comfortable homes, shopping centres, reliable and abundant food supply, libraries, clean water, electricity and gas, airlines, the rule of law, etc. etc. And all that is available for the Aborigines, too. They are the beneficiaries of colonization as much as everyone else. But by all means, do keep believing in your fairy tales. They have nothing to do with reality.
@bruhdudeguyman
@bruhdudeguyman 10 ай бұрын
@befeleme Despite the fact that Australian enslavement of indigenous people's only ended in the 1970s, you still seem quite confident in spreading crazy racist shit. Hundreds of cultural groups and languages that were once of the land of Australia are now lost to time due to the violence and disease brought by the British colonists. Children were stolen from homes, enslaved and forced to assimilate into the culture of colonists. Yet to this day, there are still hundreds of First Nations in Australia. These people have their own languages, religions, and ways of life that have contributed to their communities and land for tens of thousands of years. The idea that these people are/were moral less monsters that contributed nothing is absolutely mind-boggling and ridiculously racist. Especially when British colonists were literally committing sexual violence against young girls and women, alongside the massacres and mass dispossession of land. Do some research about it, dude. Holy shit - this stuff is fucking awful and nothing to be proud of.

The world has gone nuts, welcome to country' and saying sorry is more important than celebrating Australia Day, flying the Indigenous rag is equally important as the Australian flag, fringe issues such as transgender get more news than proud to be straight, alternative energy sources are more important than proven reliability. Well, I was born here nearly 70 years ago and I do not need to be welcomed to my country by anyone, particularly not by those Indigenous people who would like to see us kicked out or have our wealth confiscated for their needs. I have never been one to fly an Australian flag, I always thought it was enough to just be an Australian, but I think that this year I might go to Coles and buy some Australian flags just to identify that I am not gay, not transgender, don't support LBwhatever and not Indigenous. Why Coles, because I am annoyed with Woolworths, but that is a different story. So, to all of you proud Indigenous Australians, non Indigenous Australians, new Australians, fly the Australian flag and be proud to be in the lucky country, because even though we have some issues, it is a damn sight better here than anywhere else, and for goodness sake put those damn gum leaves out.

The notion that Australians must be welcomed or invited to their own country by Indigenous leaders - which occurs at the opening of state and federal parliaments, conferences, and school assemblies - is a divisive and destructive one. This practice, while it may appear reasonable or harmless, is a manifestation of the ongoing assault on Australia’s Western heritage and implies that non-Indigenous Australians, whose families have called Australia home for many generations, do not really belong here. The Majority of all Australians regardless of race have made it clear it's time to call for an end to welcomes and acknowledgements of the country.

That's a delusion. The aborigines in fact were NOT the sole 'first people' to set foot in Australia! Do an Internet search and find out the facts. There were several races who migrated overland (as the continents of Australia, New Guinea and Asia were then joined) - the aborigines were just ONE native race among them. Who was there to say an aboriginal was first to set foot here? Who cared? Everyone who has ever lived in Australia has been a MIGRANT - NOBODY owns any part of it and have no right to, unless they WORK and save the money to buy some. If the aboriginals are entitled to grab whatever land they can get out of this idiotic government, so then do all Asians, New Guinea natives and other races such as the Chinese, who had ancestors migrate to Australia at that same time. As well, where at ANY time was there a legally binding transfer of land ratified to authorise transfer of Australian land to ownership of the aborigines and nobody else? It's all based on fairytales - dreamtime fairytales - and the Australian people are being duped by it.

Darwin predicted that races such as the Australian aboriginals were doomed to disappear, superseded by technologically (etc.)superior races; only the efforts of some within the superior races to protect aboriginals have allowed them to buck the fate Darwin foretold for them; but their uppity behaviour may yet lead to their destruction as everyone gets fed up with them.

Which will serve them right. The historical record fact is that the aborigines have ALWAYS been helped by those who federated our nation, from the word go - done all they could to provide services, medical treatments, child-raising advice, education on how to build homes, how to work and become productive members of an advancing society - but they REFUSED, preferring to not work at all or become educated. Time for some HONESTY and TRUTH on this subject, and speaking plainly.

Smoking and welcome ceremony before most sporting events, etc. I know of a lot of friends, people who switch the television off until the smoking ceremony is over, then turn it back on to watch the sport, etc. this ceremony has only been a recent thing. There is recognition given to indigenous people and support already. Now our sport cops a smoking ceremony when is enough enough. English settled Australia all those years ago and unfortunately many, many indigenous people died. (Terra Nullus) I wasn’t a part of that so why am I being subjected to all this ceremony other stuff.
