I'm 67 yarsb old and my days here on earth are soon over. For me this song touches all the nerves in my body. I cry every time i listen to it. Its like Johnny Cash's Hurt. These two songs sums up my life pretty good. Even though English is not my native tounge these songs are so fundamental and basic that anyoone can understand them. Thanks Skynyrd and Cash.

Simple Man" epitomized Ronnie Van Zant, who enjoyed friends, family, and a good time far more than anything money could buy. He held true to these values even after he found fame. Van Zant died in the 1977 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Skynyrd guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines (brother and sister). When the band reunited and toured in 1987, they dedicated this song to him. Even though the lyrics state, "Sit beside me, my only son," Ronnie was not the only son. He had two younger brothers along with one older sister and one younger sister. Those younger brothers are Donnie, who formed and fronted .38 Special; and Johnny, who took over as Skynyrd frontman after Ronnie's death. RIP to all the original LS members 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I'm russian, and this song has been jumping from phone to phone myself in years, I didn't notice something special, I don't even remember how it did get to my playlist, I dont't know why maybe it's just memory refuse, but every time it played in my phone, I switched this. Recently I surrounded by an electric shock with thousand of goosebumps, this is such a beautiful and simple song, all the poetry in two words, and nothing extra, the truly standard of rock music. My brother Aaron passed in 2020 on June 22. This was his song. His best friend suggested it for the funeral. Now when I hear or I'm feeling melancholy and this song is playing I sing along. As an actual artist I feel the need to sing this song to my sons and grandson. I love the lyrics and maybe one day when I'm not so sad I'll return to Nashville and sing your song. I pray you won't mind. Texas

I'm not far from Nashville... and I play this song pretty flawlessly as far as the "rhythm" guitar. I put rhythm in quotes because it's picking, not strumming... so not what I describe as typical rhythm. I can play the lead too, but I can't do both at the same time :P Anyway, not that this will ever happen but if you make it to Nashville at some point, find a way to contact me... I'll stand up there and play it while you sing. To honor the song and your brother.

LYRICS: Mama told me when I was young "Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day" "Oh, take your time, don't live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass You'll find a woman and you'll find love And don't forget, son, there is someone up above" "And be a simple kind of man Be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can" "Forget your lust for the rich man's gold All that you need is in your soul And you can do this, oh baby, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied" "And be a simple kind of man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can" Oh, yes, I will "Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself Follow your heart and nothing else And you can do this, oh baby, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied" "And be a simple kind of man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can?" "Baby, be a simple, be a simple man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of simple man Oh, won't you do this for me, son, if you can?"

It is said that Ronnie didn't write down the lyrics to any song he wrote. He wrote or co-wrote, what 90% of their songs? Wow. He was as irreplaceable as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Duane Allman and Jon Bonham. What a talent!

My ex introduced me to this song....he was playing it while away in the DubaI airport jamming it loud in his headphones and crying from being over-tired and dancing while everyone watched him. I always kept him company while away as much as I could, through messages and sending music. He sent me this song and it made me hurt for him 'cos he has always been so alone. He doesn't want me anymore, but this song makes me tied to him and that no matter where he goes, I will always love and care for him and in that way he will never be alone.

Why people hate on them ? I love the current line-up ! I loved all the line-ups of Lynyrd Skynyrd. People are so fucking sad and miserable to waste precious time on hating things. Usually the ''life is hard'' people are just patheric miserable creatures. Life is not hard. I've lived 3 years of my life literally homeless and yet I could pass it in other country, without family and friends and look here I am married and I got kids and I didn't married some sugar daddy I just married a homeless vet. Now we are all happy. Oh well this went off-topic.

keeping the legendary music of this band alive shouldn't be hated....folks should be appreciative....i have seen them and it is well worth the time to listen up... the southern rock roots and sound is on point..i truly love the Last Rebel album and think Ronnie would have approved of it....if you go to their show and the songs give you the goosebumps then they are doing it justice :)

Johnny doesn't get the credit he deserves because he is a top vocalist as good as they get. If you don't think so maybe go back thru some of the older stuff of the new band. Preacher Man, Tomorrow's Goodbye, Gifted Hands ,Mama afraid to say goodbye and many more. Miss Ronnie and the guys too and the songwriting will never be the same in this band or anywhere because we lost a true genius but Johnny sings his balls off every night

I’ve seen hundreds of videos of them live and plenty of times in concert but I have to say this exact performance is nothing short of magical. The timing, the vocals, the guitar tone that all three of them are cranking out, loud AF but complete clarity!! Probably the top performance of simple man during the modern incarnation of this band!! The greatest Southern Rock band of all time. In fact if their was no Skynyrd theirs no southern rock. Just the Allman Brothers playing blues with a heavy rock and jam influence. Don’t get me wrong their where and still are some great southern bands, but Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet were the ones to put rock in southern rock! Nobody could touch those heavy grooves and screaming guitar tones! #LongLiveSkynyrd #LongLiveTheSimpleMan. #RestInPeaceRonnieVanZantAllenCollinsSteveGainesCassieGainsBobBurnsEdKingBillyPowellAndLeonWilkinson! #FlyHighYouFreeByrds!
