Fun fact about the space bar being the key to interact: I don't think the modern standard of control schemes for PC games has set in in 2002, so they just went with the control schemes of their previous games (daggerfall and Arena). Which undoubtedly based their control schemes on the original Doom, where space was the interaction button.

Dice rolls my friend. The maths. They will save you, or damn you if you cant math. Everything you do in the game rolls the dice, this is the significance of the Luck stat. It pads your rolls. Combat not working for you? Use a weapon you have skill in. Spells not working? Use the appropriate spell tree you have skills in. Have the appropriate maths now? Things still not working? The green bar is the most important bar for actually doing something other than dying. Make sure it is as high as possible at all times, and it will pad your rolls as well. If not it will detract from them. Remember to have fun! It may be old but it is well worth it once you learn how the world works ;)

@@Samuraisaac As an example, when you were fighting the cliff racers (dragons), you were using a dagger which is classified as a short blade. Short blade wasn't one of your major or minor skills so you probably had a level 5 or 10 in short blade. Your long blade skill was one of your major skills and was at level 40, so if you used a long blade instead, you would have been hitting about 40/5 = 8 times more hits. P.S. hitting them had nothing to do with not having a bow, it was just a really low hit chance.

I've owned this game since 2016 and just completed the main story for the first time last week. It took me a lot of restarts to learn much as well. The best pieces of advice that I can give are: Try to keep your fatigue bar at least somewhat full as the lower your fatigue is, the more likely you are to fail most of your skill checks. I've noticed that until you get a skill up to around 60 or so, your fatigue plays a major role in everything you do with that skill. Much like in Oblivion, raising certain skills gives you a multiplier for whatever attribute is tied to that skill. For example, raising acrobatics increases your strength multiplier. This multiplier is capped out at x5, which will cause it to raise by 5 if you choose it as one of your three attributes to raise during level up and then the multiplier will reset upon confirmation. Raising any of the strength skills a total of ten times will give you the x5 multiplier. Your progress toward an actual level up though only increases as you raise Major and Minor skills. If you want to maximize your level ups, it's best to raise your Misc skills first to get those multipliers, and then raise your major and minor skills to get your level up. Your chance to hit with any weapon is based on your current fatigue, agility, whatever level the skill for that weapon is at, and (to a minor extent) your luck attribute. It's best if you don't use your misc weapon skills for combat unless you're training them, and even then I recommend training those skills at a trainer until you get the skill high enough to actually hit stuff. Alchemy and magic in general is absolutely busted in this game. I'm not gonna tell you to stay away from it, but if you don't want to feel cheap then at least don't exploit it to the insane extent that you can. With just alchemy alone, you can temporarily increase some stats into the thousands making most tasks a joke. Seriously, it can make the game way too easy. As far as enchanting items, four things. Every enchantable item has a max enchant value to prevent you from making extremely overpowered stuff. I think the highest is the exquisite amulet with a max enchant value of 120, not counting paper since it has an infinite enchant value but can only be enchanted with single use spells. You can fill your soul gems with any creatures you've summoned. You can enchant your equipment with constant effect enchants, but only if you have a soul with a value of 400 or more. So you're gonna need either a grand soul gem or azura's star if you want to enchant your stuff with some of these. Golden Saints are probably the best for this, since there is a spell that allows you to summon them, which is basically on-demand souls for your soul gems. You don't need to use soul gems to recharge your enchanted gear, as it will slowly recharge over time. By slowly I mean that it can take multiple in-game days to fully recharge some of your higher capacity items. It's best to only use soul gems to recharge your items if you're unable to rest and need it recharged immediately.

This was fun to see. Really makes you realize how much RPGs have changed ideologically since the early 2000s. You couldn't hit anyone because your skill was too low, and that was ok back then. Before Morrowind came out, only the biggest nerds and freaks played western style RPGs, and they purposefully made them very abstract. If you wanted a realistic game where you wouldn't miss attacks back then, you just straight up didn't get an RPG.

@@Samuraisaac That's absolutely it. Computer RPGs for a long time were just trying to make D&D work in a videogame. @Kainlarsen6 ай бұрын
To be fair, Morrowind's combat is far more realistic than Skyrim's. I say this because, much like in real life, most of us don't know how to fight properly. Much less swing a sword properly. It's awkward, you're going to be clumsy, and you're going to miss a lot. And those hits you do actually land, will likely not be very effective. However, as you persevere and keep being bad at fighting, you will gradually notice something; Your body will become used to the weight and balance of the weapon. Your stance and posture will adapt to better swing. Your technique and accuracy will start to improve as you muscle-memorise what does and does not work. You will become *okay* with combat. And then you will have taken your first step into a larger world. The wonderful, wonderful thing about Morrowind, over all successive Elder Scrolls games, is that you start as literally nobody. You are fresh off the boat, and in a bizarre volcano island full of grouchy, xenophobic dark elf farmers and miners. You really have to earn your way into people's graces, and it feels so good for putting in all that effort when guards stop talking to you like you're a pubic louse and actually wish you a good day. :)

If you ever return to Morrowind... You spontaneously chose the right sign the first time! The Lover is a top tier sign, basically The Warrior sign plus The Thief, plus all the bonuses that 25 Agility does to related skills. Basically, this means you would be hitting and dodging like a much higher level warrior at level 1, exactly what you were missing (basically every swing is a DnD roll, there just is no animation for dodging or missing). It also comes with a very high level stun spell for dealing with troublesome enemies, like old Snowy Granius on the bridge (his skeleton died because the summon spell's duration expired). Also, you missed an entrance inside the Dwemer ruins (it might be above or below another doorway, or a hard-to-see cave passage, I forgot). The Boots of Blinding Speed actually make walking not only bearable, but faster than Skyrim, giving you 200 extra speed (where the base stat normally maxes at 100, making it 300 max with the boots, whereas you probably had a fifth or a tenth of that). Their negative effects can be resisted. Being a Breton or an Orc helps. They are attainable at level 1 from Pemenie, north of Caldera. Scouts in bars can give you map locations. Basically, you felt raw end of the Morrowind stick. In Morrwind, end-level gear is just sitting somewhere waiting for you. You just have to wander into the right place. It's not leveled as much as in Skyrim and Oblivion. You can literally just run into a level 50 or 80 opponent at level 1 and get merc'd, or slip by them and steal some end-game stuff (or find it lying somewhere, unguarded).

Welcome to RPGs. I still never use E for activate/use. I've always used the numpad for movement and used the ENTER key for use. Then when I switched to WASD (because I was tired of sliding my keyboard halfway across my desk when I played FPS games) I naturally used Space as use. Similarly, when on numpad controls I used 9 for jump so when I switched to WASD I used E for jump. Can't ever do it any other way. I'm also a Y inverter. I like Morrowind's controls. They used to be normal. However, I'm not a fan of the dice-roll mechanics in everything. I much more prefer Oblivion's and Skyrim's definitive weapon contact on attack. And the more you level up in a skill the more chances your attacks will land (and do more damage). But that's RPGs for ya. I dound the Dwemer Cube on my first run though. It's just sitting on a shelf IIRC. You probably didn't explore everywhere. I love not have quest markers. It makes it far more realistic and immersive.

This is why modern games are too easy and dumbed down, cause these are the types of players now. They can't think and figure things out, they need to be spoonfed everything, such a shame. I was 15 when Morrowind came out and had no problems figuring out the systems. If you have axe as a skill, I don't know,. MAYBE USE AN AXE? Damn dude..

i never bought anything in skyrim. gold is just hoarding and nothing to spend it on except maybe trainers but its also stupid because training is capped to couple of skill ups per level. its totally optional thing to do and because items scale to your level if you buy weapon at a vendor, you will find better weapon in next dungeoun you are in. its stupid design.@@FirstLast-yc9lq

1. Creating class wisely is very important in Morrowind. 2. Using short sword while your main skill is long blade is not the best idea. 3. Using quicksave (F5) and quickload (F9) could help. 4. You shouldn't do anything with 0 stamina (breathless) cose it won't do much. 5. Fighting/casting spells/many more = diceroll (oldsql RPG style). 6. After fights you can rest to regain your HP. 7. You would find dwemer cube, but you get used to simple and linear Skyrim dungeons... Morrowind is a bit more complex (that cube location is the first test for player to be more creative while searching locations). 8. You should play more of Morrowind, is one of the greatest games! ;)

There was no standard for Keybindings in those days. Every game had their own idea of what to use. If you think Morrowind is bad try playing KOTOR. 8:50 welcome to my experience of 2003. I remember being terrified of cliff racers for my whole first playthrough. To be fair though I was 10 and they were murdering me at every turn. Don't even get me started on that abomination known as the quest marker.

@@Samuraisaac good to know. Also, an additional tip to have better time in combat. If you're planning to use a weapon, make sure that it's in either minor or major skill category, otherwise you're gonna miss most of the time. Combat (amongst other things) in morrowind isn't like combat in later TES games, as in hit= damage based on your attributes, but it's more like a visual representation of a dice roll

...10) you don't chop down a tree with a spear...there are three types of striking each weapon type might have betterdamage with poke than with chop or slice. You used low level weapon damage attacks ....offften...is some thing that can happen but your weapon actually might have done 5 each strike type. 11) distance to target it is on the ground,, you might need to bend to hit shorter or tops close to the ground people in game-Ernie Moore jr

okay anyone else wanting to try morrowind, the two things most important to making sure you can hit your attacks is 1. how full your fatigue (stamina) bar is, pay attention as you travel and when you see an enemy, stop sprinting and take a moment to catch your breath before engaging. and 2. USE A WEAPON YOU ARE SKILLED IN. If you want to use a dagger, either pick short blade as a major/minor skill, or find a skill trainer for it. There's a store in the starting town where you can buy your preferred weapon type, ideally you want to pick skills so you start with around 40-45 in at least one weapon skill

There are not dragons in MW,..those are Cliff Racers. XD If you want to walk faster use the construction kit and change your stats. Same with weight. You can change your character's skills and other stuff in the kit, which comes with the game usually. When your at such a low level, you have a hard time killing things. You have to just "git good",as they say. It isnt just given to you. You have to earn it. PS, The cube is beneath a table in the ruin.

13:35 What you actually needed was a readable map. Quest markers were a game design crutch (or digital duct-tape) that could negate bad graphics for in-game maps, a crutch that overstayed it's welcome with better graphics.

Manage your fatigue. Take fuller, slower swings while fighting. You can move the direction of the mouse to change the attack type. Yes 'bunny hopping' is the fastest way around for a bit. There are trainers for every skill and no limit to training. So use them. Take your time, it's not a race. You can't beat this game at lv.2 or 3 like you can Oblivion. Never take medium armor. There is no master trainer for it.

5:17 The imagery is a loose representation of the game perceived reality: 1) your skill with that type of weapon makes you use it worse than a more experienced user. Frequency of use correlated to experience...you are facing an opponent who has five features which counters every attack situation on a case by case--..Ernie Moore Jr. (the real...) 1)your strike falls short 2) their skin is thick and for the amount of force and swing momentum was too short to create damage --their armor rating was higher than your attack rating .3) it evaded. (Moved away from the damage part of the weapon...4) it's attack timing deflected your attack making nothing of damage or reducing damage....5) your defenses was too clumsy to connect the attack as you saw it in your mind to the actual delivery-execution....6) if it was the knife dagger sticking in the table with a note the note points bout it is a damaged or worn brown blade ( the request was made to fix it).....7)you had been walking or Acrobat ting enough to lower your stamina gratifying you or taking a lot of the steam out of your attacks reducing its ummmph.....8) your blade has a range of damage which makes damage variable each user your blade user's damage might be 1 sometimes...9) the critter has 15 health,, but in the timeframe talking about you missed 4 times and did 7 value one attacks quit was healthier than the damage you actually did but cannot see sofar..-Ernie Moore Jr.
