This is my favorite follower. I prefer that she doesn't charge in right away so that she is not constantly in my way. She will fight ranged and switch to melee when approached by the enemy. Also she is good for a sneak character because she has a good sneak stat and she wont charge the enemy on sight like most followers. She also has doesn't have any morality issues unlike most followers, which means you can trespass or murder to your hearts content and she wont bat an eyelash. Even a house carl wont follow orders if you are trespassing and many other followers will outright attack you if you kill an innocent npc in their presence. Jenassa is the most underrated follower imho.

An unmentioned bonus is being Dunmer, she's fire resistant, which is nice if you habitually spam Fireballs. Her dual weild effectiveness is the real clincher, especially when equipped with Absorb Health/stamina swords, such as the Nightengale Blade, and a Dwarven Sword of Devouring. Properly equipped, she's much more survivable later than most of the other 30 Lvl followers because of staying out of the fray, dealing damage from a distance, and turning mulinex in the melee.

I never used Jenassa until recent playthroughs (thank goodness for the removal of the level lock in the Special Edition) and I can’t believe I missed out on such a beast follower. She’s better when you’re a mage as you can engage from afar and support her tanking with spells like grand healing and the like.

Jenassa's been working out well for me, tearing shit up with dawnbreaker and chillrend. I really haven't had much trouble getting her to dual wield, so I guess I've overcome her main handicap. Also, it seems that she'll use superior bows (enchanted glass, in this case), as long as she uses her default arrows. Whenever I give her ANY other sort of arrow type, she switches back to her stupid default hunting bow. I have no idea why this is the case.

In one of my 3 concurrent Skyrim character builds, Jenessa is my partner and follower for my Dark Elf sneaky mage assassin. I ended up giving her the Deathbrand armour set dual wielding Bloodscythe and Soulrender. She now makes a very powerful close quarters fighter who draws the enemies' main attention which complements my Conjuration/Illusion/Sneak/Archery build nicely.

It seems part of what you judge a follower by is their ability to tank. However, sometimes "tanking" for followers can be detrimental, as they can get in the way of an archer-type's shot, or get smashed by your melee attack because they get too close to you. While i agree that testing their abilities by putting them against dragons is useful, some characters are simply meant to stay out of the way, and sometimes it's better, gameplay-wise, that way. Just my thoughts...

I couldn't more agree with you. I greatly prefer that she gives YOU the space to do your thing. If the followers and recruits are doing all of the fighting, what's the point??? They are then not a follower,but a leader. And if someone wants that type of 'follower', there are no shortage of tanks to wade right on in there and go crazy on the enemy for you, have all the fun - which was meant for YOU - YOU the player, and even stand a far higher risk of getting killed just because you wanted an aggressive tank type companion, not a 'follower'.

give them the primary weapon first, they'll equip it, then give them the forsworn weapon. they won't wear it around but they will pull it out to fight. the chest is stormcloak officer armor

My character is a cleric but I found myself being so op. With one follower all I have to do is let them take the stage while I sit back and heal or if I have the 3 dark brotherhood initiates with Lydia, I use time slow shout and heal them all in turn. I only needed Smithing, restoration, alchemy, enchanting, and block. Made godly followers with double enchanted everything and just let them have at it while I healed.

My go to follower. But I've never tested going fulltime archery or mage fire with her so she mostly uses windshear and Dagon's razor. Everytime I play a darkelf male, she's my Lydia.

I lost Jenassa a little bit after getting her. I can't even find her corpse to get the sword I gave to her. In none of the halls of the dead. It's like she just went up and vanished. Same thing happened with the Riften market stall vendors besides Brand-Shei because he's in prison

I'm using the unofficial skyrim patch and Amazing Follower Tweaks mod (only available on PC of course). Among other things, AFT has an option to make followers auto-level. It also lets you fully control follower equipment, so you can strip them of whatever you don't want them to use and specifically choose what they do use.

If by "true assassin", you mean "using only what you find", then i guess i can see your point, although i thought they called that "scavenging" or something else. I only use Briarheart Geis on my weapons, for it's the only enchantment that doesn't use charges, and there's (obviously) lots of Nords in the game. Now, if only the Geis wasn't glitched to not appear in the cave it's supposed to be in...then i wouldn't have to use the console to obtain it.

@MiningMines - spell casting or staff using followers can hit the horse with a radius spell that will cause the horse to attack the follower. dead thralls do this, too. i've never seen the follower attack the horse first, though.

If you take her bow away she is super aggressive. Simple fix and you can sell her hunters bow for 50 gold. The only follower better than Jenassa is Ralis. Plus you can marry her and get that Lovers Comfort in dungeons any time.

I play a dunmer mostly, I usually install a multiple follower mod and hire Jenassa and Teldryn Sero. Of course the best followers are dunmer, I'm not gonna travel with an n'wah.

Her tendancy to stand back with the bow is a boon for a close quarters playstyle, since she doesn't take too much damage back there, and supports you. The dual weild helps most when she gets charged. If you want to play the opposite way, supporting a tank with a bow, and/or spells, a housecarl such as Lydia may be a better fit. The unbroken is free to recruit, and uses 2 handed effectively with starting steel plate, minus the helmet. Get her the Hammer of might, and a good cover.

The only reason she's "bad" is because you find her so early, so it locks her HP and skills at a low level. I usually still use her anyway, i still find her pretty useful.

Has an update changed her AI since this video? I gave her some really nice melee weapons and a cool bow, but I've only seen her use her bow once. Usually, she'll sneak amazingly, watch me start the fight, then be the one to run into melee range.

But i figured it out. Finally. Busy on some quests when Missy Dunmer decided to stick with her standard Hunting Bow. For console owners like the Ps4. Jenassa will equip any bow that falls under the Light Armor category. That means Long,Hunting,Elven and Glass Bows. Everything that falls under the heavy armor category she will not use. She might wear the armor but she will not equip the bow because she falls under the Light Armor category. So if you are like me who likes their followers in one style Always deck her out in Light armor..then the bow in that category will be no problem. And yes that is why she uses the Forsworn Bow without issues. Forsworn is also Light armor Class.

Yeah first i had the housecarl Gregor from Dawnstar with me, in full flawless Ebony Armor and weapons. but after i bought Dawnguard and got Serana i kept her because of her OP Spells that helpt me alot against difficult Foe's :D

I actually watched this video to determine if i should use her or not. She sounds like a great follower for stealthy players, since she will stay out of the way as you charge into battle. This would prevent her from "friendly fire" since she likes to keep her distance in battle, unlike housecarls, which charge headfirst and usually just get in the way. Not saying she's better or worse, obviously, just making an observation.

Jenassa is my main follower, and the most intelligent one when come to lines, without being annoying like Mjoll the Lioness that never shut up and has always repetitive lines. Give her 2 swords and she will kill one by one more fast than its expected. The only problem it's against mages, since mages keep distance, she always will use bows, but besides that, she is very good. Marculio and j'zargo are by far the most powerful. Marculio can carry you the whole beginning easily. And even have some cool lines, remembering me Bronn from the game of thrones. But I prefer Jenassa.

She was my first follower but I definitely prefer Marcurio. Her archery wasn't providing enough damage to help in the fight and she would hardly ever engage. Even when Marcurio is further away I know he'll help me with his ranged attacks, sometimes I just leave him two enemies cause I know he'll deal with them easily.

Jenassa is my favourite follower. But she is not using her bow after I started using the followermod overhaul. She is just charging on with her daggers. I think it's a glitch.

You can't divorce. Once you're married, you're married. Period. She may sell you stuff if she moves in with you, however.

Very odd. Normally any follower who doesn't start off with a default bow can dual-wield just fine. Heard the same thing about a default shield. Check the Skyrim Wiki, maybe that can help some.

Farkas is crap because he's a "Blacksmith" type. Seriously, that's his in-game data. Vilkas, however, is brutal with 2-handed weaps.

@pms00 Sven isn't bad at early levels although he is a bit of a mish mash in terms of abilities. Admittedly though, whenever I wind up at Boethia's Shrine, if I haven't already gotten Faendal for an archer character I will go back to Riverwood and get Sven because he is so easy to get and so inconsequential later on. I hear it is possible to complete the quest without sacrificing a follower though. I never hire Jenassa, she always creeped me out but I will definitely give her a go sometime.

Pop open the command console. Click on your follower (or any NPC). Type "setlevel 1000 0 1 100". Presto! That persone will be equal level to you and will level with you up to 100

With a Forsworn Weapon, she will. However, with her 100 in Block and 100 in Heavy Armor, she's better suited as a tank than a heavy DPSer.

Jenassa has legit 100 archery at 30 tho. Why do you need someone to charge in and fight when they can just use bows. I know her dps is insane with dualwielding but shes one of the best archers in the game so does it really matter she uses bow a lot.

@Stabbyhead - poor ai. your best bet is to just give her daedric arrows but not try to force her to use a good bow. if you are on the pc you can change her default inventory with console commands though.

For what it's worth, a lot of guys here are saying to take away the GOOD arrows, and she'll use the better bows. So, Jen goes with the "Poor arrows / awesome bows" paradigm. Given the relatively much smaller difference in daedric to iron arrow damage (24 to 10), versus hunting bow (17) Vs 100+ damage bow, I can live with that.

Instead of trying to get a follower to last throughout the game, I upgrade them as the old ones become useless. Faendal will get you to Whiterun, and Jenassa is great up to about level 15. After that, you should have Lydia, who you can upgrade whenever you get a new housecarl. Instead of Wabbajacking, you can promote Followers to blades to reset their levels with better armor. This also helps getting Jenassa into a suit of heavy, but it's not an improvement. Windshear makes ANY follower OP.

Giving Jenassa heavy armor is a big step backwards as she's a light armor specialist. The blades armor also looks terrible on her. She doesn't look at all feminine which is an awful pity as she is so incredibly beautiful

Janesa is my 5th follower and I've hired her twice. And she's worth every septim. She helped me slay my first dragon which got me the title Thane of Whiterun and a reward of Lydia as my housecarl to boot. I saw great reviews of Lydia and I naively thought she'd be good but I found her a hindrance. Sending Janesa home to get Lydia was a mistake. If I can marry Janesa I'll try to hire Golldir again and see if I can talk Meeko into joining us. I think that would be an awesome entourage.
