I don't like it. I don't like the increasingly greedy model adopted by more and more game companies (and the world). It's monetization from the company that helped invent it. This repackaged Creation Club (which is an ATOM cash shop with player curated content) isn't well thought out or designed. Do you really believe this? I don't understand how you can look at it, break it down and walk away thinking this. I don't think this perspective was justified in the video (unless I missed something) and I don't get where you're coming from. I'm confused. Aside: Apologists are just the worst. Edit: Thanks for liking my comment. I appreciate that (unless you like all of them). I do hope you'll further explore this topic in the future, although I don't understand why all the bases weren't covered in this video. I'd like to know the rationale behind a perspective different from mine (which is based on facts gleaned from what we have today - the features and communication/marketing - coupled with history).
@publiusdos592511 ай бұрын
I'm taking a wait and see approach but it seems to a well thought out system. Wanting to monetize the fact that their games are heavily modded isn't a bad impulse from a business point of view. Trying to make something profitable is not a bad thing. The problem is when you get a bunch of corporate sociopaths trying to squeeze as much blood out of a turnip as possible for short term profits. Creation Club always struck me as something designed by a manager who didn't really understand the market they were working with in any way whatsoever, and I think this new model works much better.

@RobVespa If you're calling me a BGS apologist... you definitely haven't been on this channel before. But I am open to knowing what you actually think isn't well-designed or well thought out. I'm always open to being swayed, but just saying "you're wrong" with no context is unproductive discussion. p.s. I am someone who has criticized Starfield since before it released… hence why I only have one post-launch video on the game
@GrimGalore11 ай бұрын
Nope. It's totally believable. This is their 3rd try at paid mods, if I remember correctly. If BGS spent half the time they spent on coming up with more ways to monetize Skyrim on actually developing ES6, we'd have that game by now.

My question is, would you not agree that it has been less dogshit each of those times with more community feedback taken into account? As for TESVI, this sort of thing has no noticable impact. What has held TESVI back is Fallout 76, Creation Engine 2.0 upgrades, and Starfield.

@@ApoqsiYou are correct. This is a well thought out plan taking into account mod authors feedback. Some people like it and others hate it. But mod authors who want to charge money for their work like it. The problem is, many people feel entitled to free mods.. author's desires be damned. They will 'never' pay for something they think they are entitled to for free. But you are only entitled to software for free IF the person who wrote it and uploaded it wants it distributed for free. If the owner thinks it is worth money, taking it for free is stealing. Many, many mods are free and that is great. But if people want to be compensated then they should be. People are not going to like this video.. but you are absolutely right. The number of fixes is also outstanding. Obviously, with any update, there will be a period of time that some mods will uninstallable due to need to be made compatible. But that does not mean those mods should not be rolled it. 'Bethesda releases half finished games and relies on modders' ... It's nowhere near the "Mod-pocalypse" we saw when AE released & this Creation Club 2.0 seems like it could be a good way for Mod Authors to make some money from their hard work. I'm not a fan of paid mods but I like the idea of people getting paid fairly for the work they do, so imo this seems like a step in the right direction from BGS. I know there's been some negative feedback too & I'm not without my share of concerns however I think people sometimes forget that BGS is a business which means their no1 goal is to make as much profit as possible. Creations, like them or loath them, look great on a spreadsheet as they bring in a consistent flow of profit overtime rather than Games & DLC that peak when they release & have lower profits as time goes on. Geez... These fixes are fantastic but should have been implemented years ago. The new paid mod program, while excellent for some modders, seems to spit in the face of the majority of the modding ethos that has kept this game alive for over a decade, and makes me think that after the success of the AE, they thought they'd be able to get greedy and milk even more money. Also, these paid mods are a disaster for PC and Xbox users because almost all mods require compatibility patches, and these are going to be a nightmare to try and do, AND PS4/5 users are screwed because Sony won't allow external assets, so of the 7 current "Creations," only 2 are available to PS users. Also, these new creations will disable achievements, which BGS doesn't make very clear. Bravo, Bethesda! You are truly breathtakingly stupid in your greed and idiocy. I think I'm done with Skyrim for the foreseeable future, especially when studios like CDPR are out here trying to improve the experience for gamers and listening to feedback.
@Apoqsi11 ай бұрын
My stance is that mod authors shouldn’t worry at all about patches for the paid creations. Not anything they can reasonably do and it should be viewed as the user choosing to install incompatible mods. As for a big change this system needs, we NEED a way for users on all platforms to be able to disable individual paid creations or some clever workaround. BGS can feel free to keep AE content forced on, but all of this new content should be shown in the load order individually.

@tovubek8287 Not even close. SkyUI has already been fixed by a patch mod. However, thanks to Bethesda's nasty update, I ended up spending 2 hours fixing the mods and by the time I finally got it to work (still some mods do not work for the new version), I was just too tired to continue, and was really disappointed. I think Bethesda really does not know how hard it is to mod Skyrim and make the software work together with the mods, and they just destroyed all of my effort of working by releasing an update with tiny improvements to the game. If they do that again updating, I am going to give up the game. After all, games are here to bring you happiness. If it makes your life harder, why bother?

@Apoqsi11 ай бұрын
Not at all how this system is going to work. I’d suggest you watch the video, as not just anyone can charge for mods. Pre-existing mods cannot be out on the platform. Paid creations cannot depend on any other mod/creation. So if a mod author wants to make a script extender mod, for example? Can’t be put onto this system. An overwhelming amount of mod authors have already come out against this system saying they will never charge for their mods, others said they will try to join the program but will still make free mods if they get approved, etc. Again, this isn’t a system where just any and all mods can be charged for. This is essentially just a slightly less restrictive Creation Club. The only one who hasn’t thought it through is you, because you’re using your emotions to conjure up theoretical situations not based in reality.

I really had no opinion on this update when I first caught wind of it, I didn't want to make a judgement until I had all the info. But it's a 0/10 for me due to my initial experience with the new "Creations" menu. I have Anniversary edition on PS5, I had nearly filled my DL limit (something like 96 mods I wanna say) and I had a hundred or so hours into a character using my mod setup when the update dropped. It's likely a problem with one or more of the mods I already had installed; but from day 1 to the end of day 2 following the update, I attempted no less than 40 times to open the creations menu, and invariably every single time I attempted to do so, it promptly crashed the entire game and sent me back to my PS5 home. As a result, I have now uninstalled Skyrim, and due to my initial problems with PlayStation's already very limited setup for mods plus the new continuous crashing from the new system; I'm about 98% of the way to completely quitting Skyrim entirely, at least until I build a new PC, and I'd say even then it's unlikely.

I think it's great. Firstly because I think it's fantastic that creators can have the opportunity to earn some money for their work. Secondly because the creations are all standalone. One of the biggest put offs about modding for me is the complexity of seemingly endless patches for one thing to work with another, the time you need to invest just to use a handful of mods is sometimes ridiculous to me, so I mostly don't bother with anything other than textures. I don't even use USSEP. I'm not having a pop at mod authors or the modding system in general, it's all good, just too much hassle for my tastes. As to paid mods, it's just a choice, buy or don't buy.

I'm concerned about Fallout 4 more right now since I've got around 300 mods installed, but after i finish my modded playthrough there I'm going back to Skyrim to see how it is now, and at least initially this sounds promising. By the time i get there it'll be fully fleshed out and hopefully the bugs (and warts) removed...

I don't believe that we are going to see the modapocalypse pt2. It's all and all a very messy update as all updates from Bethesda are, AE is already getting many of the core mods back and working, but I think the most important part that the community cares about is that Bethesda is always so aggresive with their updates.

However, I know a few authors of some of my SKSE plugins have quit since 1.6.640 released so my update is hinging upon them. Some come with scripts so it isn’t a matter of disabling a .dll. Of course, I nuke my saves frequently because modding > playing lmao so it ain’t that deep ig.

On xbox the new mod manager is a whole mess. It scrambles the mod order everytime a new mod is added or deleted. Plus, translation esp now need their own slot, which puts the actual limit below 150. You CAN load more than 150 mods but when starting the game, the fucken manager will deactivate half of your mods and, of course, scramble them. Plus, all UI mods cannot be used until they are updated by the modders, since they render the new manager inoperable. Just crap, worse than before.

It’s kind of crazy that they ruined Skyrim a full 12 years after the release date. The modding community kept these games alive, and now they are in jeopardy. Bethesda's future as a company is entirely dependent on how well ES6 performs. If it is a flop, then they are done.

To me Skyrim is the Golden Goose. You know the story where the couple got a golden goose that laid golden eggs and got rich then thought they could get even more if the opened up the goose to get the gold inside and instead ended up with nothing. With this update they are getting very close to letting their greed kill the golden goose. They just can't help themselves. Leave the games we love alone. They are making new games that are crap *cough Starfield, and burning the bridge behind them. For the 1st time I am considering GOG. Either way I think Bethesda has been taking a page out of George Lucas' book and changing Skyrim much in the same way he kept editing the original trilogy.

It's amazing how companies will do everything they can to do the one thing they hate most of all which is promote piracy. Do you seriously think people who have brains will pay for mods? They will simply steal them like they do everything else when people see mods to never be paid for but instead have an accompanying DONATE button. Bethesda wants to control all mods, and they do not want to see modders making free mods for their games simply because they want the money, and most of all Bethesda wants to own all the rights to those mods SO they can use this content in every game they own. Modders, why are you selling your souls to a company which is using you to pad their pockets, and steal your hard work? The thing is guys, your free mods on their system become Bethesda's property. GET your mods off of Bethesda's Store. Keep them on other free sites, and PUT a DONATE button up for those who wish to support you.

It is what it is. I won't buy the creations plus I launch the game with skse so I couldn't buy them anyways. It will come to fallout 4, wish Bethesda would learn from their mistakes Fallout 76 and Starfield. I hope they don't try to monetize Skywind and Skyblivion, the only thing I'm looking forward to since Bethesda has nothing to do with it. I wish Bethesda gave their other games the Skyrim love, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 need attention. New Vegas does to but that was Obsidian. I do think is shady that the paid content isn't working as advertised the dungeon pack one the items has a broken enchant where it doesn't work. The paid "creations" if they don't work or have issues they should be required to fix them or Bethesda has to. When I played on Xbox many of the player homes were hit and miss. The designs were great but had plaques and other items floating in air. My favorite other furniture stuck in the bed.
