The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Think of Mora as a librarian. He still needs to collect the books to fill out his knowledge, but he is in the know about everything within his library. Mora needs agents to gather the knowledge from Mundus because he, as a Daedra, has no direct influence there, he can only observe, and the Skaal know he is watching and thus work to hide it. Furthermore, the secrets of the Skall all encompass things that Mora can't fundamentally grasp as he is not mortal. How to live off the land, where to hunt, respecting the nature around you, etc. Mora can collect this knowledge, he could reiterate it afterwards, but he doesn't really "understand" it. However, the knowledge of Oblivion, the secrets of the universe far beyond the grasp of mortals? That is his wheelhouse, and in that he is an expert. It's this knowledge that he shared with Xarxes to write the Oghma Infinium, and the secrets contained in Black Books that drive most mortals insane.

So, I’ve stumbled on a possible easter egg. Paarthunax, the dragon, and Pertinax, the Roman emperor; one is a dragon who you are supposed to assassinate (according to the Blades) and one is a Roman emperor who was assassinated three months into his rule by the Praetorian guard (who are pretty much the Blades) during the Year of the Five Emperors. I thought it was possibly important to note because of historical parallels could possibly be used to predict future content.

"When misrule takes its place in the eight corners of the world" - refers to the events of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the simulacrum of Jagar Tharn, the eight corners refer to the provinces outside Cyrodiil. "When the Brass Tower walks and time is reshaped" - refers to the events of Daggerfall and the Warp in the West. "When the thrice blessed fail and the Red Tower trembles"- refers to the events of Morrowind with the fall of the tribunal, the death of Daggoth Ur and the destruction of the Heart of Lorkhan. "When the Dragonborn ruler loses his throne and the White Tower falls"- refers to Oblivion with the ending of the Septim dynasty of emperors, later the Great War and the taking of the Imperial City by the Aldmeri Dominion. "When the Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless and bleeding"- refers to the split between the two factions in Skyrim, the death of High King Torryg and the civil war. "The World Eater wakes and the wheels turn upon the Last Dragonborn"- Alduin's return, obviously; wheels turning refers to how the Dragonborn is allowed no choice in the matter of their destiny but to see it all through to the end. Their fate as the Dragonborn was a pre-determined event that they are unable to escape and so must give in to destiny and battle Alduin to the death.

That makes sense, given Paarthurnax's debate with the Dragonborn on why he or she should kill Alduin. Furthermore, Paarthurnax says the following:"Hmm. How to explain in your tongue? The dov have words for such things that joorre do not. It is… an artifact from outside time. It does not exist, but it has always existed. Rah wahlaan. They are… hmm… fragments of creation. The Kelle… Elder Scrolls, as you name them, they have often been used for prophecy. Yes, your prophecy comes from an Elder Scroll. But this is only a small part of their power. Zofaas suleyk." The Dragonborn's prophecy came from an Elder Scroll. Heck, even the song of the Dragonborn says: "And the Scrolls have foretold, Of black wings in the cold, When brothers wage war, come unfurled, Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound."

I'm not saying that you're wrong, in fact I think you're very much correct, I just feel the need to point out that it is "and the wheel turns upon the last dragonborn." The wheel. Singular. Possibly refering to the universe? For the same reasons you said, the whole pre-determined fate thing. I just thought it would make more sense if it is referring to the wheel that is the universe, rather than a wheel in the same sense as a gear.

@@cary1056 I think you're being reasonable. Think of Nirn as at the center of a circle. In the circle are eight spokes for the Eight Divines that gave their power to create Nirn at the centre. In between the spokes are the planes of Oblivion where the Daedra reside. Outside the Wheel is Aetherius. Hence, the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn. The universe aligns to push the Last Dragonborn into their place in the Elder Scrolls V.

It's a cool theory, though I think it's much more viable that the prophecy derived from the dragon Elder Scroll, written as soon as Alduin was cast into time, and likely deciphered by the very clever man himself that cast Alduin into time. It is however, very plausible that Herma Mora knew that the prophecy would unfold, and certainly positioned himself perfectly so as to be able to exploit the Dragonborn, just as Sheogorath did to The champion of Cyrodiil, and Azura did to the Nerevarrine.

And Wulfgar always seems to have our back, as when he scolded Arngier about us asking about dragonrend when he snapped at us. Wulfgar also has a quill and roll of paper in his inventory whilst the others do not. I believe Wulfgar sees what Arngier doesn't or will not see: That we, the dragonborn, are not there to commune with the way of the voice. We were summoned, imbued with the dragon-blood unknowingly, and our end goal was to defeat Alduin and restore the proper cycle. Alduin, who shirked his duty, would've consumed and destroyed the world instead of being the catalyst for the next Kalpa. And to help, he writes to us in secret.

I don't think it's as simple as "creating" a prophecy. Take the Tyranny of the Sun for example. That prophecy, also read from Elder Scrolls, was just created by some snow elf. Yeah, Vyrthur was a high-ranking religious leader, but he wasn't anything special as far as we know. I think when he "created" the prophecy that the blood of a pure vampire could corrupt Auriel's Bow and then be used to darken the sun -- I think that was all just something he knew could happen. After all, he _was_ arch-curate of Auriel, so is it really so hard to believe he would have detailed knowledge of the Bow's workings and properties? So by extension, he should also be able to hypothesize what various magics used on the Bow would yield what results. So here's how it happened: Vyrthur wants to block out the sun to take revenge on Auriel (even though the connection between Auriel and the sun is a tenuous one at best, but I digress). Using his in-depth knowledge of how Auriel's Bow works, he figures tainting the Bow with the blood of a pure vampire would do the trick, so he decides that's what he's going to do. And just like that, the Tyranny of the Sun prophecy is now readable in Elder Scrolls. Yes, Vyrthur "created" the prophecy, but it's not like he used any kind of divine powers or metaphysical foresight to "write" it. I think the Last Dragonborn prophecy worked out something like that too. No one "created" it, it was just a natural consequence of Alduin deciding he would rather dominate than devour this time around (and the reason it's only the Last Dragonborn who can stop him is because the Last Dragonborn is a Shezzarine, so the Last Dragonborn facing Alduin is another iteration of the eternal dichotomy of Lorkhan and Auriel, Sithis and Anui-El, Padomay and Anu, Chaos and Order, but that's a theory for another day)
@insaincaldo
@insaincaldo 5 жыл бұрын
Yah, I never got why he claimed to write it, we all know he couldn't have, damn snowelf. Sure he influenced fate and made sure someone followed though, but he didn't alter the scrolls and he could only actually stand to see it come to pass, or well see someone attempt it, or attempt to stop him, because he had all the time in the world to just wait and leave breadcrumbs for someone to follow.

However, HM's Apocropha houses all that will be written, is written or was written (past, present, future) and may direct that knowledge, gift it to the right minds, nudge it in the direction that suits him. I think the actual words of the prophecy may be one of those infernal time loop conundrums: it exists because the events will/are/did happen. Also, HM must not be omniscient, or why would he need agents like Miraak or the Last Dragonborn to accumulate more knowledge for him?

The creation of the prophecies from Elder Scrolls is the more important bit. Upon reading an Elder Scroll, time is set to follow along that path regardless. The one who created the prophecy is the first to read the Elder Scroll (Dragon) from Skyrim and as far as we know, who was that? Felldir the Old. It makes a lot of sense too, since he already knew he could cast Alduin adrift with an Elder Scroll, which isn't common knowledge even amongst Moth Priests

A lot of people are saying that dragonborn couldn’t be the servant of hermaeus mora, but he already has made one his servant, and the fact that you aren’t able to deny any of hermaeus mora’s requests shows at most that you are destined to serve him reluctantly or otherwise, or at least that his goals and yours seem to go hand and hand

If anything, HM figures out what's going on, that a Dragonborn must appear to the time where Alduin is pushed there by the previous heroes. He already tried to turn Miraak into his personal book/knowledge collector so he figures to jump in and get to the new Dragonborn and hopes to have the new DB to: 1) get rid of the problematic Miraak; 2) replace Miraak; 3) not make the same mistakes with new DB, you the player, that he did with Miraak. Basically HM wants to be Gus Fring and the new DB to be his Mike Ehrmantraut. It wouldn't surprise me either if HM isn't a somewhat lonely guy either and would like someone to have around in the eternity he spends gathering knowledge.

I mean, if Akatosh is more akin to a child of Lorkhan and Alduin is as well, the manifestation of his will made manifest, and with Hermaeus Mora also potentially being a child of Lorkhan, connections seem even more plausible.

So the funny thing about the hero’s of the most popular elder scroll games is that they all have effectively everlasting life as in morrowind you get immortality disease in oblivion you become shergorath and in Skyrim you are either a vampire lord being kept alive by Mora or your dragon souls are sustaining your youth

Hermaeus Mora is a hoarder of knowledge and a demon of fate. The mortal sons of Akatosh who bear the blood of Dragons shall not be a slave of Hermaeus Mora for they are champions of the mortal realm and in their hearts burns a fury of fire that can only be sustained by devouring the souls of their enemies and taking their remains as trophy’s. Mora I've always interpreted to be the culminated knowledge of a rejected world, as in that which wouldn't work in the world during the time of creation. Like imagine an accumulation of rejected or since patched code becoming something hideous, dare I say wretched. So he may have a connection to divining such information that has come into fruition such as the prophecy, but i don't think I'd do so far to day Mora created it.

No matter how powerful or dreadful Herma Mora is... Skyrim's people would still ask him if he "needs something" or would tell him about something out of their life, when they "used to be adventurers but then took an arrow to the knee". He is all-knowing and yet he does not understand the concept that lies behind these little things. He does not know, what the mysterious note means, yet the words on it sound familiar to him: "We know". And so it is, that the one, who claims to be all-knowing, does not know the true meaning of this and that another cosmic entity is waiting for him in the sheer unending void: The dreadfather awaits! *HAIL SITHIS*

Ngl I think the elder scrolls are part of Lorkhan. Maybe his skin it would make sense for the “last” Dragonborn to actually be a shezzarine not related to akatosh at all. Lorkhan is the god of trickery after all and his realm (nirn) absorbs the powers of the divines so his avatar would therefor to be able to absorb the essence of divine beings like dragons. It’s also important to note that Lorkhan doesn’t want the world to end. (It’s his literal body after all.) and the fact that in all likelihood Talos mantled Shor and resurrected the will of the dead god when the underking merged with the numidium during the warp in the west.

Actually, I suspect what we know about Hermaeus Mora is wrong. After all, it was Jyggalag who was the Daedric Prince of Knowledge - his library having mapped out nearly *_every_* possibility, treating the universe like a game of chess, being thusly able to oucnter any and every action. So great was his knowledge, that all the other Daedra feared him, and cursed him, changing him into Sheogorath - yet Sheogorath only seems to be a piece of Jyggalag. Order turned into Chaos, thus making him a "god of madness". Where did the knowledge go? I think *_that_* is Hermaeus Mora - the knowledge that Jygglag once had, now cast away, but not a threat like Jyggalag was, because unlike the Daedric Prince of Order, he has no goals beyond furthering that knowledge. Jyggalag was a threat because he had *_purpose._* By separating him from his purpose, the knowledge is nothing to fear. That was the real curse. Tearing Jyggalag into two, sundering him. the madness? Just a small side-effect that they kept going so that he could never reunite himself. Then, once Jyggalag was finally freed in Oblivion... well by then his "other half" was likely too distinct, to separate to ever reunite, much like how Akatosh and Alduin are now two separate entities instead of one. By being separate for a long enough time, they are distinct now. No longer the threat they once were when whole. Which is why the Daedra aren't worried about the now freed Jyggalag becoming a threat once more. It also explains the real reason they feared him - Jyggalag was a being that could be split into two constituent parts, order and chaos. Sure they *_called_* him the Daedric Prince of "Order" but he was actually causing both order *_and_* chaos. Jyggalag's realm constantly expanding? Caused order *_inside_* the realm, but chaos *_outside_* it by changing everything around as it grew. It inevitably brought change to the universe, he was a scary thing - a working mixture of Anu and Padomay, something that only the combined powers of all his contemporaries could contend with, and even then they couldn't destroy him, not really. They could only alter him and hope that worked - even then he literally saw through it, while under a curse that made him literally insane, and came up with a plan to defeat the curse. The only question is, will Jyggalag ever be able to re-merge with Hermaeus Mora, and once more begin his reign of Order, bringing change all around him by converting everything into his domain?

I think Mora needed Miraak to die to convert him into a true Daedra. Just like Meridias Ayelid champion in Oblivion. This is only a theory and the only evidence I have is that if you toss Miraak’s corpse off the side of the arena, Mora steals it away. Implying that they are not entirely finished with the first dragon born.

It's possible. Like much of the lore I wouldn't expect a concrete answer. He would certainly have the knowledge if it's available. But considering he searches for knowledge leads me to believe that it came from elsewhere. Considering how the caliper cycle works. It may not be exclusively a prophecy. It might be history. I think the oddest possible source would be from alduin himself. Passed to the dragon priest as a warning about the dragonborn. Only becoming a warning about alduin after the dragon priest were over thrown.
