Skyrim's skeleton key is magic, it literally transforms to be a perfect fit for the keyhole and it even works on a combination lock during one quest so theoretically the skeleton key could unlock anything that can be locked, even if the thing was never even meant to have a way to unlock it.
@ryankunst668 Жыл бұрын
But in game its just an unbreakable lockpick, which is less convenient than a key that immediately opens the lock. But lore wise you are correct. It can even unlock stuff in meta ways, like "unlocking your potential", whatever that means.
@Sparrow_Bloodhunter Жыл бұрын
@@ryankunst668 this "key that immediately opens the lock" only works on very specific types of locks, in game anything that is locked can be picked by the key. the leader of the thieves guild unlocked a dragon puzzle door without the claw and without solving the puzzle. the only time we can't use the skeleton key is when there's a story significant reason behind it or the game devs didn't want you to go through certain doors. also you can just use the Ohgma Infinium glitch to unlock your potential.

The key is the physical manifestation of a power that allows you to unlock anything, a door, unlocked potential, secrets, etc. a person with this key can open any obstacles in his or her path with a thought, which is actually what you see one of the game's villains doing while in possession of the key. You guys reach several doors that are impossible to open without the puzzle piece and he just like pokes at it, pretending to be doing something while claiming that it takes a lot of skill. Later you find out that he was only able to do that because he was in possession of it.

My grandfather had a 50 foot sail boat with a partially hard cover center cockpit with benches on both sides. He put small clasps and locks on them. A wandering lookiloo on a random weekend engaged my grandfather in conversation while he was working on the deck. In an attempt to flee the annoyance he was headed below and the guy saw these little pad locks and said, “those won’t keep anyone out.” My grandfather replied, “they are to keep honest people honest.”

thats an understatement, there doesn't need to be a lock for the skeleton key to open something, it can literally open anything and unlock anything. the key itself isn't a key but rather the concept of unlocking shaped as a key. it can open the door to your soul, it can open a door to other dimensions, it can unlock inner potential to do anything, it can unlock someones understanding of something. its one of the more powerful daedric objects made with alot of nocturnal's power.

Skyrim's Skeleton Key would make a great skeleton key. It can open anything. Literally anything. Not just doors. The Skeleton Key is one of, if not the most powerful artifact in ES. It's powers are the concept of unlocking itself. If anything in life bars your path, and you're able to rationalize it as a lock: the Skeleton Key can unlock it. That's any door, a person that doesn't want to hear you out, a heart that won't give you love, your own potential, the laws of physics, the secrets of the universe itself. There's a reason Nocturnal is probably the most powerful Daedra next to Sheogorath and Jyggalag.
@KonoGufo Жыл бұрын
The Skeleton Key is powerful, but not *that* powerful. It's just one of the few Daedric artifacts that has had its true potential explored. Take Mehrunes' Razor for instance; in the lore the Dagger can sever an individuals connection to their own soul, and the user can also use it to cut their own soul into different shapes. Mankar Camoran uses this ability to cut his soul into the shape of a Dragon's, which allows him to wear the Amulet of Kings (and according to his books, he could speak fire, likely using the Thu'um). So we have a dagger that can cut through just about anything and can be used to trick the universe into thinking you're something you're not, including a Dragonborn, who have the potential to be demi-gods. There's also to consider that Nocturnal gets her ass kicked by Meridia at the end of ESO's Summerset expansion, so she isn't so high up the Daedric food chain that none can contest her. High up for sure, but not sitting at the top.
@dissolution9843 Жыл бұрын
@@KonoGufo I don't recall the source, but my understanding is that the Skeleton Key can be used to obtain CHIM. Through unlocking of your own potential. Which seems just about as powerful as it gets. Though of course the Razor could be used for that as well assuming you're creative enough.
@ChrisTheCentaur Жыл бұрын
The way the skeleton key is intended to be used would put you out of business lol. It is a divine item meant to be well above mortals.

Considering Skyrims skeleton key can also unlock metaphysical concepts, like Mercer's psychological potential and a literal portal to Nocturnal's realm, I'm giving it the edge 😉 Great short though, very informative!
