Riverwood even wins from a functionality standpoint. It acrually feels like a proper small town It has a fair amount of houses, an inn, a blacksmith , a general goods store, a lumber mill and walls surrounding it

Though on this playthrough I'm doing now, it might be that terrible drunk idiot follower whose life is trash who dies there this run... I didn't know about him until longbrow's follower video, and I forget his name, but he seems like he was designed to be a throwaway for boethiah or the blades.

Shor's Stone is actually the first place I really called home in Skyrim. Sylgja was the first spouse I ever had and I moved in with her. She does the hard mining work while I do the hard adventuring work and I get rid of the spiders in the mine when they respawn. I love how the whole village gathers around the camp fire every night and eats together and I've become a part of that little community. I actually still play this character regularly, even though it was probably the third character I ever made.

Still a dick move that Torygg offered to make him king but he said no then went and killed him for it later. Nordic duels aren't even supposed to end in death. He just abused the system. Also Torygg was probable just ragdolling around from shouts, hardly fair combat.

Oh my dude, you are seriously sleeping on Rorikstead; there's something sinister going on there. (This has been covered way in-depth by other KZbinrs). Pay attention to the dialogue; sneak in and listen to Jouane give secret lessons to Sissel. Why are their farmlands so fertile? And where are all the adult women? If you were including Raven Rock, that should easily have been #1; it's personalities, the sheer number of questlines, it's Morrowindy (yeah that's a word now) goodness-it's easily on par with any of the Skyrim mainland cities. I don't know who told you your accent is fake but as a native Texan, I assure your viewers that the 'Texas twang' is indeed real. You and the missus have a good one, Longbrow!

So here is a fun fact. According to medieval standards, none of these towns are towns. A town during the medieval time had a somewhat large population and usually walls along with a handful of guards. Oblivion does towns better because there every town do have a stone wall. Sure that is also illogical but at least it has defences. I am ignoring the numbers needed to make a town as that would be more than the total number of NPCs in Skyrim.

Winterhold ISN'T a city. And I'm not saying this as the generic "Winterhold is a capital city, but its only 5 buildings." It actually isn't a city in the lore (at the time Skyrim takes place). M'aiq the Liar actually has a line of dialog: "How does anyone know there was a city of Winterhold? M'aiq did not see it with his eyes. Did you?"

Shor's Stone actually has some lore behind it. According to lore, Shor - the Nord version of Lorkhan - threw a huge stone there in times immemorial, and the Nords eventually built a town around it, supposedly for religious purposes. Too bad Bethesda is full of shit and couldn't be bothered to add said stone in at least one of the 25 re-releases and patched this game got.

The creation Club Farm is right next to roarkstead which makes it feel a little bit bigger. It that also has one of the coolest daughters in the Game if her father dies there's dialogue of her having magic powers

Ranking 1. Windhelm- This city is number one for many reasons. First of all, Ulfric is a seemingly good Jarl, and the overall layout of the city is awesome. The quests are really good, and it has transportation to both the coastal cities and Raven Rock. The Palace of Kings is beautiful as well. I have two major negatives though. First of all Rolff and Angeror and the true racists in the city. I also don't like how the argonians are out, but from what I've read that's because the Argonians and the Dark Elves fight. Also the dark elves have the Gray quarter to complain about, but according to a fricking High Elf, not only a high elf but the same race as a fricking thalmor, the dark elves did it to themselves. Also, multiple high elves (2 think) have done really well in the city. So it's obvious that racism is not systematic here. Once again, the fricking same race as the Thalmor, the stormcloaks main enemy, have made it in the city. So, other than Rolff and Angenor or whatever the city is awesome. You also get to start the dark brotherhood questline here. 2. Riften- I really love this city because of its overall design, the inn is amazing, the quests are absolutely legendary, and the presence of the thieves guild is what boosts the city. This may be controversial, but my opinion is that Thieves Guild is better than the Dark Brotherhood. Just the uniforms make the Thieves guild better. The overall complexity of the city is really good too. 3. Whiterun- This is way too low in the list, but I would have put it tied to Riften if I was doing ties. The Gray Mane and Battle Born rivalry is one of the best rivalries in the game, the quests are absolutely amazing, the city is beautiful, and it's the first you see. Also, the shopkeepers are pretty interesting. 4. Solitude- I know this is also pretty low, but once again I am very anti-imperial and the Thalmor in the city annoy me. The quests are amazing and the daedra quest is one of my favorite, but the house is really expensive and it is very imperial-based. The death of Roggvir also really made me hate the city because I believe he wasn't guilty of treason. 5. Raven Rock- First of all, the overall ash design and dark elf I really like. I mean I may be a Nord, but the city and all its layout, buildings, and even the house you get make it really fun. I also really like some of the quests. Delvin Mallory also severely boosts the score. 6. Markarth- I know some may think this is pretty low, but it's not the best city. I really like the design and dwarves base, but I hate the Silver bloods and Forsworn, and the city's slogan is most literally 'Silver and Blood! It would be much better if the city wasn't so greedy, and more dwarven based. I would have liked if Bethesda would have somehow given us maybe one or two dwarves like that one Yagrum dude from Morrowind. 7. Dawnstar- This city is slightly bigger than Morthal, and the characters are pretty basic. I put the city higher than the last few because of the presence of the Dark Brotherhood and the daedric quests. I also like the AE quests here too. I know this doesn’t count for ranking, but the Build a dwarven city mod for PS4 that adds exactly what it says really does make the area fun when modded. 8. Winterhold- Alone, the city sucks, but the lores cool as Skyrims former capital, and the College carries. I am personally not a mage ever, but the college is just such a cool place with a book seller, all the types of magic, and some really fun quests. So, Winterhold gets a little higher than Falkreath because of the college. 9. Falkreath- The city is decently sized, and the characters are not great. The jarl gets on my nerves and the city is great with quests presenting two daedric quests. I feel it's overall okay, but could use some upgrades. It's also really out of the way. 10. Morthal- I don't think I have to explain this choice. It's a really bad city because the characters, quests and buildings are all terrible. Overall, it's a bad city.

In my mind I like to imagine Elder Scrolls is a far future post apocalyptic earth many years in the future after an unknown event. Despite humanity and the other races not being able to advance to our modern standards and technology, they make up for it with their knowledge of magic. And such. Btw if case you guys don’t know, continents can move and change shape, and planets can change too. Which my theory is probably going to be disproven by this one guy who literally does nothing but read elder scrolls lore, but like I said, this is a post apocalyptic earth. I didn’t say what. Anything could’ve happened. Inter dimensional invasion, breakdown of the universe, anything.

Edit: I watched for 3 more seconds and now know its just towns. Darkwater crossing because thats where my wife lives. Dog shit town tho. Idk if i could vote for just one but here are my thoughts. 1) whiterun. Super easy and quick to navigate with every kind of merchant. 2)solitude. The absolute prestige with even more amenities than whiterun. Really annoying to travserse across town though and its easy to run right past proudspire while looking for proudspire
